What would it take to start a mens rights movement?

I think a discussion of actual issues with taking points would need to be established. I see them floated around here, but a lot of what is discussed is bashing feminist.

We need to talk about sexual assault and how men do not report it as often as women and the reasons why. We need to address both female on male sexual assault, whereby addressing the issues within our own (e.g. other men laughing about it and saying you got lucky) and male on male sexual assault in the lgbt community as well as prison. And not measure it against female statistics.

We need to discuss domestic violence against men and extremely limited number of shelters. And, again, not make it a competition.

We also have to accept our own less than ideal behaviors and tackle them. Self-awareness and self-reflection is key.

There is more but you get the idea.

The best we could do would probably be an Egalitarian movement. That would get us what we want and be good for everyone else too. No matter the problems that exclusively harm us, it's kinda shitty for everyone so a movement everyone could get behind and deal with all our issues would be ideal and definitely possible in the next 50 years. If we started being nicer to each other on a basic level, the top cunts in charge wouldn't stand a chance.

A sole Men's Right's movement would be too much of an easy target for toxicity to actually work I think. You'd have the media start off by painting it badly, making us all look like shits, then you'd have other men actively distancing themselves from it so as to appear like one of the "good ones", it would be a mess and would end with doxxings and then a quiet but gradual silencing. You'd have to incorporate the issues into something bigger for it to last 5 minutes, and this would incentivise support from others too.

I hate to say it but one won’t get noticed until all the oppression against men comes out into the open and the general public takes notice, gets seriously pissed about it, and rise up against it by taking the war to the street - which would make it ‘politically trendy’ to side with and media friendly as well. Won’t happen anytime soon...

For a start, it would need to focus on issues that harm men - like the expectation of masculinity and stoicism, rather than what capital M MRAs do, which is trying to refute issues that harm women. Both issues revolve around entrenched gender roles, and would be tackled much better if MRAs worked alongside feminists, not against them.

If I understand this right, this is about forming a organized group, something like an association.

I have been long waiting for somebody to come up with this. I silently promoted it here and there but never came out with it, partly out of fear, to tell the truth. Also, I never got any response, so I abandoned it.

Now that somebody else came out with it, and it is eventually getting attention on this reddit, I can only say that it is the ultimate good idea. The rise to power of feminism started with the forming of associations like the now all-powerful NOW or National Organization for Women. But it started earlier with the founding of the now powerful organization AAUW or American Association of University Women.

I have long been wondering why men don't organize in this country (I am an immigrant from a formerly Communist country) when they are so oppressed. For women, it all started with organizing women's groups and now see how effective they are, to the point of (terribly) remaking a whole society and gain power over it.

So yes, let's organize! That's the only way to win. I envision a powerful organization, akin to NOW whose main business is lobbying in Congress but it also launches campaigns, like PR campaigns to build awareness of men's issues.

There are a few men's groups in existence (e.g. National Coalition for Men, NCFM) and a website called A Voice for Men but they seem to be ineffective. I don't know why but they are not gaining traction. Of course they are never mentioned in the "mainstream media".

I am not sure if it is better to start a new organization or to breath new life into something already existing like NCFM.

But in either case I think the key issues are funding and PR. We men are always accused of "we have all the money" so it's time to show something for it.

This will be a gigantic battle, have no doubt about it. This will be opposed viciously by the most powerful political forces, in particular all feminists and practically 100% of the media. The feminists will rush to pass laws to ban us. That's what they always do, and that's all they can do. Forces with this kind of power can be fought only with huge amounts of money spent on PR (like full page ads in major newspapers, commercials on TV etc.). Also needed is funding the best possible scientific studies by leading scientists about men's issues and then ruthlessly publicize the results with endless PR campaigns until the public accepts them as truth. The feminists succeeded in forcing Congress to pass laws based on false and fabricated "studies" using PR to intimidate Congress members. Despite the "studies" being thoroughly debunked, the laws never got repealed. I am talking about the the 1994 Gender Equity in Education Act (GEEA), and how and why it was passed.

It's time to make laws based on the truth, for a change.

I don't think it's possible currently. It would take a fairly major cultural shift that I don't really see happening in my lifetime
