I think some men fall hard for the "men are providers" belief and get led astray. I think some women seek to take advantage of this.

I was surprised when my gf at the time asked to be a co-user of my credit card, when I asked her why I would do that she answered so she could pay her bills. I declined and we separated soon after.

What's his is ours, what's mine is mine.

The amazing thing to me is the amount of women who think this actually makes them generous!

"We are both Chinese, so there are a lot of “cultural” expectations for the husband to take care of his wife."

What people always leave out is that in "traditional" cultures, women had obligations to their husbands, as well.

Except when they are demanding redress for alleged past wrongs: in that case, they forget the obligations of men and only focus on the obligations of the women.

It's a case of split finances not being actually split.

If both of them paid their full pay into the joint account and agreed to share all costs then fine. If she holds money back for another account while burdening the joint expenses with her education costs that is not ok.

I would say it sounds like he left her not she left him. But I can't blame the guy for being frustrated at having to finance her education while she kept back money to go on holidays.

It's easy with hindsight but where was the conversation in this? Surely she knew it was unreasonable to burden the joint expenses with her personal education while also saying her personal money is separate and can go towards holidays just for her... Surely he realised this as well?

That is what I dont get. why on earth would he marry this person without having talked about any of this? If he agreed to it then he is even dumber. I would never put myself in this situation, so I simply dont get it.

Once bitten twice shy. I'm a 47 year old single parent. I will never get married again. Not that I wanted to the first time. My wife married me without my knowledge, she's Japanese and yes they can do that.

I will date a woman as long as I'm enjoying it. If she starts pushing to apply the boyfriend label I typically walk away. It seems there are no shortage of women that day they just want a fwb situation. But sooner or later they start to change their tune and become possessive. They always catch feelings. I'm a single parent or 3 young children. My ex-wife is long gone. I'm not looking to complicate my life, I just want to raise my kids in peace. Having a girl to date is nice, but not necessary. I don't chase women but I'm an attractive guy, women do approach me from time to time. I'm very clear about my situation and my needs and wants. If she's cool with that she can stick around for a while. But they always catch feelings. And a scorned woman is a dangerous woman in my experience.

‘Be a man’ should only be said when your child comes out as Trans man and you want to support them.
