Because women are not held accountable. People treat them as they treat children and as a result they can get away with things that children can. Which is funny because you would think this coddling is condescending but you'll never see a feminist complaining about it when it benefits them. They welcome being coddled, then complain that they are being treated like children if it hurts them lmao.

A couple of my girl friends have hit their boyfriends and I just don’t get it.

When you consider the fact that most everyone will ignore it when a woman hits a man (even with a closed fist), but you'll have a lot of men jump to the defense of a woman being even just talked to sternly by a man, you have your answer...

Women just don't suffer consequences in this regard, it's like children having a tantrum and just saying "aww you poor baby, don't do that..." all while allowing the child to hit the parent.

If a man even defends himself from a woman hitting him, he'll get thrown in jail by the police.

As for why, I don't fucking know. If a woman hits me, she gets hit in return. Equality, that's what they want, isn't it?

Because almost single man had "men never hit women" hammered into them growing up, but you hardly hear the reverse happening. Abusive women take advantage of that and know that they can hit men relatively safely, despite this pretty much being a death wish for common sense, because they know the man will likely not fight back and even if he does, just about everyone nearby will come to her aid.

This is so ingrained where I grew up that outside of a professional setting, the women here will usually punch at guys whenever they get annoyed just out of habit, not realizing or caring that it would be considered flat out abuse the other way around.

The reality is, that if an average woman hits an average man as hard as she can, he will probably get hurt. However, if an average man hits an average woman as hard as he can, she will definitely get hurt and may die, depending on where he hits her.

The amount of physical force a man can expend is far greater than that of a woman (on average). The amount of physical damage a man can withstand is also equally far greater than that of a woman.

This was always seen as the reason behind the old "men don't hit women" thinking. It wasn't really because women were special, it was simply due to the biological difference and the simple fact that if a man is angry enough to hit a woman, he might just kill her.

Modern feminist have also weaponized this type of thinking and ingrained it into boys from an early age to "protect women"... but really, it's another form of control that they need to exert over men.

I’m a 19 year old woman and I definitely think that domestic violence against men is horrible.

The most famous kids show in my country includes violence against men portrayed in a funny way, and all my family laughed about it!

Because there are no repercussions and people who admit to defend themselves if needed have been hunted down for promoting violence against women before. What is a man gonna do? If I hit back and she is not ok with it and tells a few male friends, these idiots and her gatekeeper dad might destroy my body to the point where I couldnt kill myself anymore. I always let anybody know I will hit back, but I do know the risk I'd take in actually doing so. Just think for a second what happens if I fall unlucky and die after she hit me while mad. That would be part of "try not to laugh" challenges. Now think what happens if I defend myself, she falls unlucky and dies. Yup.

Because most boys are taught from an early age to never hit girls, even in self defense, so a good portion of the male population will not defend themself. That's beginning to change though, there are a good handful of us that have broken that brainwashing and now believe in equal rights, and lefts too.

three reasons i suppose:

Men are stronger than women, so its not considered serious if a woman hits a man. just because the physical damage chances are lower.
men's emotional and mental state is not taken seriously, so the emotional damage of having a woman especially one they care about harm them is not taken seriously. Men are considered human doings, not human beings, only human beings have an inner world.
There's this movement to maximize the social condition of the female sex called feminism. And as social condition is a sum total of rights, freedoms and resources having the right to assault a man while free from reprisal is in line with their goals.

It’s not just about genders. It’s also about size. If a 300 pound body builder (assuming male) hits a 150 pound guy, it doesn’t matter who swung first. The body builder is the one that gets the blame. If it’s a female body builder, the guy just gets memes made about him, again regardless of who swung first.

I'll answer why it's acceptable first:

Economies of scale. As other posters have pointed out, if the average women punched 90% of men in the face as hard as she could, it would likely hurt her hand more than it would hurt his face. If the average man punched 90% of women in the face as hard as he could, she would be in the hospital.
The act of hitting is conflated with the damage potential of hitting, and women will downplay the seriousness of hitting a man, believing their damage potential is low.
This is reinforced in media: movies, TV, YT, etc. and the (fully rational) perception that women will typically not cause significant damage when hitting a man is reinforced, while the act of women hitting men is normalized.
Ironically, the idea that a man would be upset by a woman hitting him is labeled as "Toxic Masculinity" or an expression of misogyny. This being the case, men will blame themselves for being hit, or, at the very least, fail to report or mention a woman hitting him, as it is something that he thinks shouldn't cause any real harm, and doesn't need to be addressed.
You have, at the end here, a system that normalizes and trivializes the action of a woman hitting a man, while discouraging men from even acknowledging it happens.

Now why they do it:

They witnessed their mom hitting their dad, or their mom hit them, or their brother/sister. At some point, this sort of behavior was internalized as a "normal" occurrence in relationships.
They are narcissistic to some extent. I think it is not an unlikely assessment given that somewhere around 60% of incarcerated violent male criminals register on a narcissistic scale. People who develop narcissism may be justifying hitting someone even as they do it, since their anger stemming from insecurity makes their actions more like a force of nature than an intentional attack.
Piggybacking off of point 2, they know they will get away with it. They know they can shame a man by asking "oh did I hurt the big strong man just now?" and men will almost always instinctively brush it off because we don't want to risk the shame from others for saying anything about getting hit.
Piggybacking off point 3, if a man doesn't defuse the situation and accept that he's been pushed around, slapped, kicked, etc. and just move on, what happens if the woman decides she doesn't like that and calls the cops? He gets escorted off the property, she got to slap him around, and she's in an even more powerful position than before. Now the burden is on him to prove that he didn't hit her, or risk a litany of consequences for doing nothing.

It’s because it’s biologically true that men have greater testosterone and strength than women. If a woman is hitting you leave the situation, and never speak to her again. It may be socially accepted but that doesn’t mean it’s not looked down upon.
