You're going to be in for a nasty shock when you realise that most feminist theory is silly and sexist, not just towards men but women as well and it isn't just the male gaze.

The male gaze is the idea that most media is produced by men and therefore has a bias towards the things men want to look at. Or in a more metaphorical sense most media is a mans eye view of the world.

That’s got some truth to it, but media has to appeal to its audience, so reflects the audience as much as the producer.

Unfortunately, like many other terms the original meaning has been lost by people who want to use the term to demonise men.

Society already convicts men for merely looking too long (the term usually used is 'staring creepily') at women, and this is not just a localised phenomenon, it is going global.

It goes without saying that women label a man who isn't perceived as attractive enough to hit on them as a 'creep'. However, with the current state of women's inflated egos, no man is certain to be deemed attractive enough.

If ever anyone needed proof that we live in a gynocentric society, it is the fact that any woman can point her finger at a man who looked at her and say "this man was staring creepily at me" and the man will be arrested and jailed.

BuzzFeed is the number one open offender of objectification of men. The irony is they advocate against objectification of women.

you see more sexualized scantily clad women in female magazines than in male magazines about cars, DIY, motorcycles, weapons, militaria etc. the exceptions are magazines like Playboy or Penthouse.

If you want to see the woman's gaze, look at any advertising that's not beer or exciting vehicles. You know where all the men are buffoons. Women do everything.

So yeah I can see the male gaze being a reality at times. The random trips to the titty bar in a buddy cop movie for example. No reason for it to be there. (Basically every 80s film)

It also implies men are the only people who sexually objectify.

And furthermore it implies that women don't like men looking at them. And that men looking at women somehow hurts them.
