Sarah Jeong’s racist and sexist NY Times is being... racist and sexist? Seriously, stop linking to this.

[–]Blutarg 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

What was sexist about this article, if I may ask?

[–]Halafax 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Are you willing to defend Sarah Jeong's tweets? They hired her knowing her social media, which is anti-male and anti-white.

Why feed a sexist and racist organization?

[–]Blutarg 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What, specifically, was sexist about this article? I don't care about Twitter, I'm talking about the article linked atop this post.

[–]Halafax 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This article is from a publication that is intentionally misandrist. I think starving cancer is better than feeding them delicious clicks and attention. For me, I don’t think they deserve any attention.

What do you hope to gain by supporting this organization?

Men do stuff. We pay for things. It’s time to stop doing for platforms that hate us. It’s time to stop paying for things from platforms that hate us. Men’s greatest threat isn’t what we could do. It’s withholding what we already give away.

Imagine if men’s magazines stared down the post-#MeToo manpocalypse by disowning men.

Not too hard to imagine given that the media industry has been overtaken by queer theory, gender-subversive activists calling themselves 'journalists' whose sole investigative skill is mining Twitter for Le Hot Take.

At a time when calls are growing for the Oscars, Tonys and Emmys to follow the Grammys and the MTV Video Music Awards in erasing gendered categories, and to do away with gender-specific magazines, bro bibles like GQ, Esquire and Playboy seem poised to do a backpedal of Michael Jackson moonwalk proportions from the formula that kept them perched at the publishing pinnacle for a half-century.

Dangerous! The girl is so dangerous! Take away my money! Throw away my time! You can call me honey, but you're no, damn, good for me!

Namely, being a print version of your father, offering up bourbon-breathed tutorials on the arts of tie knotting, fly casting, and skirt chasing.

In the gender tornado of 2019, men’s magazines, it seems, are canceling themselves. (The internet’s assault on glossy print isn’t helping either.)

“How do you make a so-called men’s magazine in the thick of what has justifiably become the Shut Up and Listen moment?” wrote Will Welch, the editor of GQ, in a cri de coeur introduction to this month’s “New Masculinity” issue. “One way we’ve addressed it,” he continued, “is by making a magazine that isn’t really trying to be exclusively for or about men at all.

So why should men buy it AT ALL?

So gender fluid it’s soggy, the 128-page issue might well have been themed “No Masculinity,” with its androgynous cover image of Pharrell Williams looking like an inverted tulip in a floor-length yellow Moncler Pierpaolo Piccioli coat, followed by ruminations on the “weaponized” male body by Thomas Page McBee, a transgender writer and boxer; a defense of makeup for men by EJ Johnson, Magic Johnson’s son whose fashion tastes run toward fur shawls and diamond chokers; and a debunking of the power of testosterone itself by Katrina Karkazis, a cultural anthropologist and author.

Yeah, so the selling point of GQ, GENTLEMAN'S QUARTERLY, is that ordinary heterosexual men desperately need and want to be lectured by bull dykes, trannies, and effeminate gay men about what pieces of shit they are for being ordinary, heterosexual men.

Sounds like a winning strategy to me. I see no flaws in this plan.

Even Playboy, mired in identity crisis since dial-up modems, is suddenly woke.

The magazine’s new leadership team consists of a gay man (the executive editor Shane Singh) and two women (the creative director Erica Loewy and Anna Wilson, who is in charge of photography and multimedia), all millennials.

Recent feature articles include profiles of Andrea Drummer, a female African-American chef who runs a cannabis-centric restaurant in Los Angeles, and King Princess, a genderqueer pop singer who is as a symbol of self-acceptance to young L.G.B.T.Q. fans.

For a cover image this summer, the team commissioned the fine-art photographer Ed Freeman (a rare man who still shoots for Playboy, though he is gay) for an arty underwater shot featuring three featuring female activists for causes like ocean conservation and H.I.V. awareness.

Let's just call the thing exactly what it is: PROPAGANDA. Social justice, queer theory propaganda.

The hope, dream, and ambition is for you to be bombarded from all angles, at all times, with propaganda about how defective, and inferior and flawed you are for being a man.

Mm-hm. And NYT's own subscription rates aren't exactly climbing, are they? Gee, I wonder why...

The article seems to tout that a few of these publications are still doing well, even with their radical shift.

Only time will tell I guess. Gillette isn’t dead, but their sales took a kick to the groin after that male shaming ad of theirs.

[–]Halafax 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Publishing, in general, is taking a beating. Ascribing it to a cultural shift is just wishful thinking. Lots of wishful thinking among journalism types these days, this is the apocalypse.

Gillette made their ad because they weren’t making money, they didn't lose money because of it. P&G’s marching orders were to upsell/upscale basic product, mail order razors and safety razors (seriously, a safety razor was the best money I ever spent, stop buying plastic) ate Gillette alive. They made the ad to shift blame to toxic masculinity instead of their shitty strategy. They appealed to women, because women continually buy into upsell/upscale (“pink tax“ retardation).

I recall a study that claimed only 3% of heterosexual men would be willing to have sex with a transexual. Catering to 3% vs.~90% is not a good business practice unless you are trying to serve a niche market.

[–]Blutarg 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well, maybe that 3% will buy thirty times as many issues as everyone else!!!!!

[–]apeironman 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Does anyone know how well that issue sold? I would imagine it might have sold well, as curious men would like to see what a penis turned into a vagina looks like. But I could also imagine viewership flagging if they continued the trend.

[–]XavierMalory 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This cracks me up. As far as “tasteful nudity” I figured Playboy would have to do something in the face of so much free internet porn, but this?

They’re really going balls deep here, no pun intended.

do away with gender-specific magazines

This is wrong. I don't hear calls for Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, etc, to stop catering to women only, and to start adding sections on motorcycles, cars, with a Popular Mechanics bent to attract more men. Strange how it's only hobbies and entertainment that are primarily enjoyed by males that somehow need to branch out and grow because they're not inclusive enough. And even if they have a significant number of females involved already (as fans, creators, etc), and they have no issues or barriers to anyone joining, they're yelled at by the outrage mob as never being inclusive enough.

This seems to be the "Get Broke, Go Woke" trend (the inverse of "Get Woke, Go Broke). Magazines are failing like all unprofitable print media nowadays, and they are jumping on any trend they can to try and stay relevant and solvent.

Meanwhile, Joker just became the most profitable R-rated movie ever, despite many popular female reviewers panning it as being a bad, dumb movie for "dudebros", and even going so far as to spread fear among women about being shot when going to see it, etc. Yet here we are; Joker could top 1 billion dollars while other more "progressive" products are failing (I mean, who in their right mind wants to watch Terminator: Dark Dump?). I actually foresee the success of Joker as having major impacts on entertainment in the next few years or even decades, as a lot of the entertainment industry will see that the outrage mob's power is an illusion, and it only exists if you think it's real. And that is going to upset a lot of the anti-male, woke crowd to no end.

[–]SirKolbath 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I canceled Stuff because I got tired of the incessant attacks on conservative values. Why would I bother to pay money to be insulted? I can be treated like shit by "tolerant" liberals for free on any social media platform. I certainly don't need to fork over my money for the privilege.

OP is right on the money with this analysis. Modern publishing is entirely queer and feminist propaganda. Fuck 'em. Let them rot.
