In what situations is it okay to not be yourself?

Don't be yourself, be the best version of yourself.

Maybe you're naturally inclined to slack at work, but your best self is committed. You want to respond to an insult with a sharp comment, while your best self chooses not to engage.

It will be inauthentic for a loooong time, but hopefully it will become your nature.

Being red pill in a blue pill world is NOT easy. I don't like to be fake but I am so I can survive

I'm not fake to those closest to me and in fact I'm very honest to those who deserve my honesty but let's face it.... most people just aren't that good

Well what is "yourself" really? By "being yourself" do you mean sitting around in dirty sweatpants waving a glass of wine, waving your cat around at neighborhood kids, swearing?

People get so caught up in"just be yourself" that they think they can just display the worst posts of their behavior and personality but it's OK because "I'm just being myself!" Be the best version of yourself. RPW isn't a switch to only turn on when you're arrive your SO? Make a list of improvements and do them. Will you feel fake or as if you're walking around in eggshells? For a little while perhaps. But practice makes progress. Don't just settle for your default reactions, mannerisms, appearance, and situation. Improve yourself! Be the best version of yourself.

Anytime you feel unsafe or like you could be hurt for being yourself
Work related situations
Situations where the drama of saying what you feel outweighs the pros.

The way you experience your self, and the way others experience you are completely different. If you are, for example, an intelligent book-work, other people will experience you as a shy recluse.

If is far more important to act as you wish to be perceived, rather than being 100% true to your "self". We are much more than any given impulse at any moment. We have the power to filter through our the rational part of our brains to pick the best possible option.

We have the option to pick which version of our "self" we wish to be at any given time. We act differently towards our bosses, our parents, our siblings, our SOs, our friends, and none of those are quite the same as the way we act when no one is watching. Part of social competence is knowing how to adapt and act appropriately in certain situations.

Whenever you're around people who don't truly understand you, and you have something to gain by thinking you're akin to them.

But figure out how to be an aspectvof yourself... that moves in that world.

are there situations where you should be totally unauthentic?

Work environment and work-related situations.

No reason to bring up irrelevant things like personal views/values, only to cause conflict with people who feel strongly against it.

I also put all my shields up when dealing with anyone I'm blood-related to, because they're the type of people who would kick newborn puppies just for shiggles.
