She's right on this issue and yes, a protest exclusion zone around a school is absolutely appropriate and i'm shocked it isn't already the case, and this applies to any and all protests imo. You should not be able to scream slogans at children. Take it down the street, do not hang out outside of a school and chant.

Religious education in this country in the early ages involves teaching people about religions and dispelling myths about people who believe them. Yes, this includes atheists.

Expanding that principle to sexualities makes sense to almost everyone here. The content pretty much involves "No, just because someone is gay does not mean they will rape you. You should not be violent to gay people, they simply love people of the same sex as them and are no threat to you."

Same as with atheists, I distinctly recall, part of the lesson is; "atheists are not people who don't believe murder is wrong and so on. They're perfectly normal" and all the rest of it.

Moreover quite literally these lessons involve asking the children what they think about groups and dispelling these prejudices. If the kids don't believe ridiculous shit about gays, it wont get brought up beyond "What do you think about gay people? Do you think they are dangerous? no? Okay, let's move on.".

The reason it's taught to kids at such a young age is that it's necessary to ensure they don't bully eachother other this shit. If you wait til they're 16 before you explain Abdul is not in fact very likely to fly a plane into the school if you talk to him, it's too late. Same if they've spent years beating up Jimmy for acting gay near them.

Boys being afraid of being seen as a gay is a major problem for physical contact among men. If we teach kids there isn't actually a problem with being gay, maybe that problem wont be so extreme in the next generation.

The protest is absolutely about these theocrats being angry children are being taught homosexuality is normal and normal people can be gay and it doesn't actually mean all that much, nor does it matter to anyone who isn't gay or a theocrat. (or, I suppose, getting rejected because 'i'm sorry, i'm gay.')

They're not being taught sex education. The protests are just from a small number of Muslim fundamentalists who are upset that kids are being taught it's okay and normal for some people to be gay or transgender.

Jess phillips is a 'repeat offender' known to this sub, having been caught on video mocking a male MP trying to discuss male cancers, and having called almost every single attempt at mens rights 'sexist misogyny'.

The school lessons have concerned many, and have generated national protests from many people religious and non religious, across different faiths too, after the young children were also given books featuring transgender children and gay families.

The worst part? Strong rumours she's trying to position herself as the next leader of the Labour party, and that she did this as a political stunt to win more popular support.

5-11 year olds don't get "gay sex education". They get taught some marriages are between two men or two women, and so some children have two mothers or two fathers. If anyone asks they can explain adoption or that another person can help make or grow the baby. Nobody is giving gay sex lessons. Everybody knows the content of the lessons is going to get sprayed around the internet.

The Muslims and fundamentalist Christians are outraged that the existence of gay people is acknowledged at all. They seek to censor that reality.
