The boys had every right to be angry about the girl, transitioning to a boy, who was posting selfies from the boys' toilets. But unless they had tried every other means of protest, invading the girls' toilets was not the right way to make their objections known. In the first instance, simply downloading the selfies, printing them and attaching them a strongly worded letter signed by concerned parents and students should have been enough.

Without further details, it's hard to know if the "blocking" and "self-defense" justifications for the girl's actions are valid or, as you have to suspect, post-hoc justifications for her losing her temper. If they were stopping her from leaving, that was wrong and stupid. If they weren't, she should simply have reported them. At that point, they should have accepted whatever the punishment was for being in the wrong toilet, but used the incident to publicize their own cause.

Interestingly, when women protest about this in the same way, they are not met with violence and if they were, it's doubtful that anyone would justify it:

As always in these cases of multi-use bathrooms, the elephant in the room is that boys/mens rooms have urinals. That fact alone makes the level of exposure and intrusion incomparable. Pre-op transsexuals or people who merely "identify" always have the option of changing their minds, but what specifically females view at urinals cannot be changed. The selfie was an act of arrogance.

So in other words they went in there to protest FOR the conservative position of not allowing trannies in the "wrong bathroom."

And conservatives threw them under the bus to seem "tough" in defense a girl who was in the bathroom at the time.

So in other words they kicked themselves in the groin
