A female MP in Tanzania has called for checks to determine whether or not her male colleagues have undergone circumcision - a procedure known to reduce the risk of HIV transmission. OP: What about removing the female labia, just as effective?

Thousands of dads are left in shock as DIY paternity tests soar. Up to 30,000 tests are being performed every year, says Alphabiolabs. In the UK about 750,000 babies are born every year. Feminists want the test to be illegal without the written consent of the mother.

There is a higher rate of HIV infection in circumcised men in Tanzania than in whole men there.

The figures don't measure number of sexual partners or sexuality so are at best meaningless.

This is such a myth. The studies that show this are not worth the paper they are written on, tiny sample sizes, terrible methodology and they even gave condoms to circumcised guys but not uncircumcised.

The data I have seen indicates that circumcision increases HIV transmission. USA has the highest rate of circumcision & HIV transmission in the western world. The fact that amputating the foreskin causes keritonization(hardening and thickening) of the head of the penis and loss of natural lubrication means sex is far more likely to cause abrasions for both partners which increases chance of transmission.

So now we are forcing body part removal on guys for STDs?

What happened to my body my choice???

I don't think that phrase comes from Tanzania

Wait what ? If you have sex with someone with HIV, you get HIV. Circumcision has nothing to do with that right ?

[–]furchfur[S] 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely. The men and women think they cannot get aids or transmit aids once the men have been circumcised. Which is completely wrong and so they do not wear condoms. Hence HIV rate increases.

The only protection is abstinence or wear a condom. It is tragic, they are killing their people.

It's appalling that a female legislator is actually supporting sick an invasive procedure to be enforced by the government.

The article says that men in Kenya agreed to do this to encourage others to get circumcised.

It's terrifying. What about the West and developed countries? Will female senators and MPs start calling for the government to check men and force circumcision? Or perhaps other invasive medical interventions such as hormone therapy to reduce testosterone (the root of all "toxic masculinity") or even requiring male chastity belts in certain places (work, school, etc.) under the guise of stopping sexual harassment. It sounds extreme but this MP is very extreme and I'm wondering where the pushback is

The studies that showed HIV reduction were flimsy at best. Interviews afterwards said that nobody was interested in having sex with them because it looked weird.

Abstinence reduces transmission. Not removal of skin.

I am not against encouraging sexually active adult males to undergo circumcision HIV endemic regions (while also emphasizing condom use) but you don't get require people. What a cunt.

[–]DevilishRogue 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Circumcision likely makes zero difference to transmission rates, except where in backward places like Tanzania they believe it makes transmission less likely and so don't wear condoms therefore making it more likely.

[–]14b755fe39 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think that there are studies that show lower transmission rates (too lazy to cite, I maybe wrong) but I agree on the effect that circumsized men think they are safe and neglect to put on a rubber which is far more important.

[–]DevilishRogue 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The studies do not show lower transmission rates, they show lower infection rates. Without knowing how many of their sexual partners are HIV positive the results are at best meaningless and at worst lead to condom negligence which you rightly cite as being a far more important issue.
