I saw a Dateline episode on this very case.

She met the guy, got married, tried years to conceive, and finally they had a son. The marriage didn't survive, and she filed for divorce, and asked for full custody of their son. She made bogus claims that he had abused their son, and was given temporary full custody, until the results came back that he did no such thing. 50/50 custody was awarded to the husband, along with $120k to be paid by the wife.

That was when she hired McDaniel (who the latter admitted he slept with), and using a burner phone the wife bought him, lured the husband to an undisclosed location, where he tried to take him out with a sniper rifle. He left DNA (he crapped himself) when the crime scene was investigated later on.

Anyways, yeah. I'm glad the husband survived and the ex-wife is serving the time she rightfully deserve, along with her accomplice.

The shooter said the only thing he regretted was cheating on his wife.
