had an argument on youtube about this very subject years ago

it took me saying that while lesbians were fetishized and at worst scorned, men were actually killed for being gay, to convince a feminist that men had/and have it much worse.

to summarize, at their base, feminists think that fetishizing women is a worse than killing men.

Hi, you may want to look into these statistics.

This is for US hate crimes reported by law enforcement agencies in 2011.

56.7% attacks motivated by victim being a male homosexual.

11.1% attacks motivated by victim being a female homosexual.

I think it just isn’t as taken as seriously, I have a theory that it could have a lot of to with the fact that there can’t really be actual “penetration” in a lesbian relationship, which also feeds into outdated ideas of rape and virginity, where typically penetration is required to constitute sex, could be an interesting angle to look at it from :/

Lesbian is a newer term. Previously the term for people in homosexual relationships was just "gay".

I think in our society, gay men are more shamed than lesbian women, bc being gay is seen as de-masculating and masculinity apparently is the most important quality a man can have in society.

So because of social expectations, the results of homophobia against lesbians and gay men are different. Women are more likely to face sexual violence (or in countries like Iraq, forced marriage) because it’s an effort to “fix” them, but because men tend to feel more threatened by gay men the reactions are more severe.

One theory is (esp since men who commit violent homophobic acts tend to be violent towards women/sexual partners) is that they’re afraid to be treated “like a woman”; another is that they’ve been socialized to think that violence against other men is okay, but not women. A lot of places will simply ignore lesbianism entirely, and because these places also treat women largely as property, damaging them before profit can be made is a big no-no.

So yeah, there’s a marked difference.

Because lesbian lifestyle wasn't taken seriously. Two women kissing and hugging each other is considered as a normal behavior, two men doing the same is unacceptable since it's clearly tells they're homosexual. That's the main reason.

Also, men are more tolerant of lesbians while women are more tolerant of gays. I personally just hate homosexuals and I'm not same hateful towards lesbians. But all of my female friends hate lesbians more than they hate gays. Since lawmakers in Nazi Germany were all male, they obviously tolerated lesbians more than gays.
