According to the woman, her left hand became swollen and she was in severe pain for several months

She must have shaken hands with Bruce Banner and made him angry lol

But she testified that the police report was “grossly inaccurate” and denied telling them she had screamed or shouted as loud as she could when the handshake occurred. She also denied saying she fainted at the scene and an ambulance was called.

The woman further contended that police had no basis to make comments about her possible mental health issues.

It's 10 AM, already seen the fucking joke of the day hahahaha.

[–]Corelogik 111 points112 points113 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I'd say her trying to sue over a handshake is evidence enough of her "mental health issues".

[–]Howwasitforyou 27 points28 points29 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

She would not be suing him. In Australia, you get money, and some other benefits (free counciling and healthcare) from the government if you are a victim of violent crime. In some cases it can be a substantial amount of money depending on how bad the assult is.

So she is upset that the government wont see her as a victim of violent crime. The people that work with this are working with people who are beaten, raped, and stabbed, or families of murder victims. I think it is a bit of an insult to them to have to take her seriously.

[–]Corelogik 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Close enough.

[–]CreamySmooth 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Interesting system, what are your thoughts on it. Does it work? Or is it, how I imagine it, rife with bogus claims? Im from Canada which has pretty much the same old system like the US, and things can take a decade to go through the courts until a verdict is finally met. Are things done quicker down in OZ? Id love to see your country one day, but the huge spiders and insane heat will keep me away for the time being. I was in South Korea in August for 3 weeks and just about died from the heat so I imagine OZ would be even worse. Cheers mate.

[–]AijeEdTriach 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Plenty of boggans willing to stab eachother to go on the dole hassle-free i imagine.

[–]Math321 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

What are boggans?

[–]AijeEdTriach 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Aussie rednecks. Not sure if its bogans or boggans tbh.

[–]Math321 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fair enough, thank you.

[–]wwwhistler 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I'm not a real Redditor, I read the articles behind the links. I think that I'm a bot who posts funny quotes, not sure it's dark in here and I can't see anything.

I saw a woman on TV yesterday, she was about 70 with a broken arm, she told the doctors at the hospital "I might take some painkillers if it hurts bad" and theres this bitch who claims a handshake is so painful its a violent crime....

Also by the looks of the article she also wanted clearance to financial grants. so thats probably why she did this shit

[–]martin59825 194 points195 points196 points 8 years ago (28 children) | Copy Link

My great grandma had her house broken into one night. Her husband had died and she lived alone

She grabs the sawed-off. Finds two guys in her living room. Proceeds to go fucking full Rambo

Grazes one of them. She gets shot in the ass with a 22.

Burglars escape. Nothing stolen. Never found out who did it

She had a couple potential suspects in mind, and she’d fucking taunt them from her front lawn

I can still picture her yelling profanities and pointing to her ass when certain cars drove by

She’d always say makes my ass wanna suck a lemon and I still to this day have no fucking idea what that meant.

After being shot in the ass, her references tended to be ass-related. I think she developed some kind of angry ass complex lol

Point of the story: they don’t make em like they used to

[–][deleted] 64 points65 points66 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your great grandma sounds fun.

[–]iama_canadian_ehma 33 points34 points35 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Holy fuck, your great grandma sounds amazing. Just knowing an old lady who gives so few fucks exists brightened my day.

[–]virtous_relious 19 points20 points21 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Back when I was full of piss and vinegar, and my bed wasn't, I might have thought twice about grabbing this here piece, but I'm 85, and you're interrupting Bonanza, so you're gonna have to die now."

[–]martin59825 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She hated the police too

We’d be driving somewhere, sitting at a red light, and a cop pulls up beside us.

She would maintain eye contact with him and just flip him the bird until the light turned green

The level of fucks given to which we all aspire

Miss her every day. She died 13 years ago of something that was preventable, because she didn’t want to be a nuisance or complain

God damnit grannie, you tough old goat - how in the fuck can you not tell the difference between a stomach ache and your bowels leaking into your blood stream??? Fuck!

[–]iama_canadian_ehma 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Man, you were right. They really don't make 'em like they used to. I hope I get to befriend someone like her one day. :)

[–]Sadi_Reddit 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

can confirm. The sheer resilience I experienced from some of my grandparents/elderly people is astonishing.

[–]Lemus89 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

My grandad had turned 92, just over a week later he had a heart attack alone at home late at night. Didnt want to bother any of his kids/grand kids, so he just stayed at home, and went to work the next morning. There his son's noticed something was wrong and took him to the hospital. Passed away about a week later from another attack.

How badass you gotta be, to have a heart attack at night, then head into work the next morning?

[–]Sadi_Reddit 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Im kinda more impressed someone works at the age of 92.

[–]Lemus89 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He retired YEARS ago, went to florida for a few months, came back and went back to work. He owned a local mechanic shop, his 3 boys bought it from him. For years he continued as just another mechanic doing everything, as he aged, he did only the work he wanted, some neat old car needed brakes or something he would take it. Later he would do parts runs and assist the others if they needed a hand. Some days it was just him sitting in a chair hanging out with his sons while they worked.

So it wasnt "full blown hard day of work" but he got up every morning like he had for years, to continue his routine instead of piddling around the house. He still drove himself, walked on his own, and had no major illnesses that severely lowered his daily life. I can only hope to be like him as I age

[–]13speed 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As a bouncer.

At a biker bar.

[–]martin59825 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

These fucking people are too tough. And mine died similarly - not wanting to bother anyone

Like god damnit, you think I’d want you to die instead of sitting with you at the hospital? Fuck that!

Mine died in what must have been horrible pain, but to her was just a stomach ache. Made of fucking steel, I tell ya

[–]Lemus89 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed. Worst part was I worked 2nd shift at the time, and stayed awake till early morning before sleeping, and waking up around 2pm. If he had called me I would have turned the 6 minute drive in to 2, and to the hospital in slightly longer, so that I didnt cause a second one.

I believe /u/martin59825 because my own grandma did similar stuff - grabbing her shotgun at the middle of the night and shooting it at the sign of robbers trying to invade my grandpa's auto shop.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not only was it a violent crime, it became swollen and was in severe pain for months.

Even if that were the case, that would only mean there was some kind of underlying issue already in her body to cause that amount if pain for that long.

[–]MouseCheezer 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Like I’ve hand some hard handshakes before, when I was a kid and was being polite to my old mans friends but even then the most reaction I had was a small wince, what a sooky bitch

[+]maltygos -28 points-27 points-26 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

while this woman is nuts , THERE are fking people that use too much strengh while handshaking.

happened to me once, i met a friend, did a handshake (light and casual like i thought it was suppose to be) and the bastard fold my hand like a sheet of paper, pain last for a couple of days and i insult him the life out of him (wouldnt start a fight there, cuz just by handshaking he left me like that hahahaha)

[–]donalddts 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Learn to shake the hand of a working man YA PUSSY

[–]Qualanqui 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The ones that annoy me are the early grabbers, you go in for the handshake and they grip your fingers.

[–]MrPoopyButtwholes 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's when you take your hand away and just give them the "what the fuck, are you some kind of retard" bertstare.

Consent is a social construct

[–]somedudefromerlange 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

My ex girl used the 'it's a social construct' card for everything she didn't like.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Lots of things are social constructs. Like money. Doesn't mean they're not useful, or that we should ignore them.

[–]somedudefromerlange 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I tried this one with her. I tried a bunch of other ideas and concepts. There are good social constructs and bad ones. My guess she found out about the concept and decided to use it for whatever she didn't like because reasons. Sex is a social construct. Gender is a social construct. Boys liking the color blue or toy guns or cars and robots is a social construct. At some point i wanted to have a kid with this chick(before this bullshit started). Then all that insane feminist bullshit started pouring in. I dodged an insane fucking missle.

[–]touchet29 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Some assholes do think a "firm" handshake means "all the strength they could muster".

[–]fishcanner 22 points23 points24 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Just wondering, how often do you do a left handed hand shake? Most people are right handed and even if not, people tend to instinctively shake with their right hand.

Reminds me of the Monk episode where he notices the "blind" women reached out her left hand for a handshake or something and that's when he knows she's faking being blind.

Anywho, not that this entire thing isn't already a farce, I just found it even more odd that it was her left had that was swollen when most people do right handed hand shakes.

[–]VegetableConfection1 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (9 children) | Copy Link

It's not even a left/right handed thing, people shake hands with their right hand. There's no space for altering based on dominant hand since you're shaking with other people all the time.

Unless one of you has something obviously wrong with your right hand there's no way that you'd shake left, especially if this guy's an estate agent he'll be shaking hands in his job.

I mean, I'm sure there's an explanation for this, but it's weird that it was left out.

[–]acebravo56 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I’m left handed and had always went to shake hands with my left until one day I met up with some friends and went through the routine of shaking hands and some guy that was a friend of my friends outright refused to shake hands with the left saying that was “how gay people shake hands.” Not even two weeks later I had someone else refuse to shake with the left claiming it’s disingenuous to shake with your left.

I was just baffled as I had never even thought about which hand to shake with. If someone extended whichever hand I would shake it, it’s just my left was instinctual so more often than not I would lead with it.

I’ve since just shaken with my right because I don’t care either way and no need to have other people think I’m the devil for leading with my dominant hand.

[–]Porsche959 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Its a cultural thing because many cultures relied on their left/non-dominant hand to wipe their asses with. Offering your left hand to a Hindu or Muslim is literally a shitty insult.

[–]MrPoopyButtwholes 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Also the same cultures who don't have toilet paper and shit openly in the streets.

[–]acebravo56 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Lol, that makes more sense. Both these guys were non-religious white people in my situation.

[–]Porsche959 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh well fuck those jerknuts then.

[–]majaka1234 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

But the question is, do you still like dick?

[–]acebravo56 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I like my dick.

[–]iama_canadian_ehma 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Me too

[–]MouseCheezer 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The only time to my knowledge is via Scouts, as the stories go, they shake with their left because their founder, Baden Powell, met an African tribe who shook with their left, because that was their shield hand and so to shake hands they had leave themselves open symbolically.

But in contrast in over a decade of doing scout stuff I’ve never seen someone be such a little bitch.

[–]dpgillam 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's why most the world uses the right; it's used to hold a weapon. You can't be armed and still shake hands right handed.

[–]sternbystander 19 points20 points21 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What the fuck? From this article it sounds like this woman injured her hand in a different incident and tried to blame it on this handshake- how the fuck did she decide this was her plan of action???

[–]Pie_021 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How the hell do we get in a point in society where some dumb women tries to make a handshake a violent crime?

Talk about sheltered and out of things to complain about.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points25 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I love how they used a picture of a man and woman shaking hands where the woman's hand looks like a child's.

[–]Serojin 20 points21 points22 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Sure, if that child were a burn victim maybe. What we're seeing there is a wrinkly old bag giving the limp fish. If anyone should be prosecuted it should be her for that handshake.

[–]rockynputz 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I grew up hearing my mom how she hated shaking a mans hand and it was limp. So now I make sure it's firm but not crushing. I do put a little more pressure on men of course.

[–]mr_discot1 points 8 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

In case you are wondering, the key to a 'good handshake' is to:

  1. Hold their hand slightly firm with even pressure - like holding/cupping an egg (with one hand..duh)
  2. Lock your wrist and elbow (in a natural position)
  3. Press 'into' the shake using your pectorals (pecs?) - as in 'over your body'.
  4. Shake up and down slightly with your shoulder muscles.

It's micro movements. not inches of sway. By locking your arm and pressing with your shoulder, you convey solid strength. Try it (lol, if you can follow my above hack instructions)

BONUS - always wear your name badge over your right chest. That way the person you are greeting can follow your hand to your arm to your name.

SOURCE: Was an executive secretary for a few years - am a man... took a seminar on meet/greet.

Next step - sharia law: no women on the streets, no person to person dinners or lunches with females, burkas because of men's rapy stares. Look at Paris last Sunday - 300 women complained about men kissing them and/or squeezing their ass.... They can't handle ANY form of public life! They can't even handle 32hr workweeks. no explanation was given for the months-long delay in seeking medical treatment.

Oops THERE IT IS. She's an absolute idiot. IANAL but If you ever want something like this to work (a violent injuries court case) you need to go immediately to seek medical attention and provide a medical report that supports your argument.

Not realize months later that you should maybe get a doctors not or something...

Unless there''s other circumstances, for something so outlandish as a "too firm handshake" you're gonna need some evidence for that.

The unraveling of western society proceeds apace.

[–]Hubzee 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If anything this should support the notion that western society still has some substance as this nonsense was thrown out of court

Jesus Christ. Women are so pathetic these days. It's hard to believe any real abuse ever actually occurs. Are they all making it up? I think most are.

[–]thuglanta 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Aw boohoo and bullshit. My hand was recently smashed by monstrosity of a father in law (he has a very firm handshake, and I heard a pop) the very same day I punched a concrete wall and broke it. Did it ever heal? No. Did I try to sue him? No, because I'm not a cunt.

"Lady'

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I taught my left handed daughter and right handed son how to do a firm respectable handshake. I’ll even correct other children if I choose to shake their hand. Knowledge of a proper handshake seems trivial, but will get you respect in life.

Now an asshole challenge handshake is something I can’t stand. I wrestled in highschool so my grip is stronger than most, and I could hurt the asshole in kind, but I think it’s a dick move.

This woman must be Niles wife.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is why muslims don't won't to shake a woman's hand.

You know, I’ve gotten some very aggressive, finger-crushing, hard handshakes from men, before. It can really hurt! It’s a total douchebag, “power” move, as practiced by troglodyte throwbacks like Donald Trump. I call people on it, now. “Was that really necessary?”

[–]Hubzee 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am yet to see an intelligent comment on this site using the word "troglodyte" this week

[+]stron2am -18 points-17 points-16 points 8 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

Ah...let the woman-hating circlejerk commence.

Some dudes DO use their handshake as a weaponized dominance gesture.

[–]nombre1 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And some women use the police as (literally) weaponized instruments for false claims of abuse.

[–]Fallicies 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

Then be a grown up and use your weaponized dominance gesture of scoffing at their retard gripped handshake and making them feel bad about it.

[+]DrPoopNstuff -9 points-8 points-7 points 8 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

AFTER they do it, the damage is done. “Thanks for squeezing all the blood out of my hand, fucker!”

[–]Fallicies 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

The damage lasts for under a minute, its not a big deal. I would personally go for "You have a grip strength of the entire short bus combined, tone it down buddy".

[+]DrPoopNstuff -6 points-5 points-4 points 8 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Your experience is not the same as mine, and vice-versa. Don’t condescend.

[–]banik2008 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

No, I think he's perfectly correct to condescend. You're a little pussy.

[–]DrPoopNstuff -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Come shake hands with me and I’ll fuck your little pussy!

[–]MouseCheezer 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Saying you can fuck him up!when you get you hand hurt in handshakes is pretty ridiculous.

[–]DrPoopNstuff -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Fucking he-man retards. Anyone can give a hard handshake. That’s not the purpose of them. You’re trying to be peaceful, not violent. Fuck outta here with your toxic, masculine bullshit! I’ve gotten painful handshakes from assholes that don’t know how to do it properly. I recovered, I didn’t sue them, but it’s just a bullshit, “dominance” strategy.

[–]MouseCheezer 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

I’m not denying that hard handshakes are stupid, but you just said you’ll fuck someone because they disagreed with you

[–]Fallicies 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

While I agree your experience is different, society can't bend to outliers who experience commonalities as life-altering. If a person encounters something that normally would be considered slightly annoying and experiences it as devastating, that is an unfortunate reality for them to have to deal with. It is not a systemic issue.

[+]DrPoopNstuff -6 points-5 points-4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’ve had it happen more than once. Stupid motherfuckers need to know that shaking hands isn’t a competitive contact sport! If some jackass crushes an old person’s hand, they deserve to be punished for being an aggressive asshole.

[–]deiutz11 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm not sure about this one. I've squeezed people's hand really hard to the point where they had to crouch down in pain (all in good fun). I can totally see how that would come across if the other person wasn't expecting it or wasn't a willing participant.

[–]PM_ME_BURNING_FLAGS 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Squeezing your hand might be painful while the other person is doing it, but in no way it leaves your hand swollen or painful for several months.
