So recently I’ve been getting frustrated with the amount of people speaking about the influence of privilege and the impact on people’s success or the fact it gives them a head start.

Some people say privilege is not earned, it is given. However nothing comes for free in this world - that’s just how it is. Even if I did not work for my middle class start in life, my ancestors worked bloody hard to get to the point where I came in, to say that it is gotten for free is just a myth. For an example I will use Donald Trump as someone who people like to say has privilege. Yes, he had a good upbringing, but see point A - was that given to his family for free? Absolutely not, his ancestors have put in long arduous hours of work to get to that standard of living, if you have a lesser start in life, you could indeed look back into your ancestors, it’s just the luck of the draw. However, the Donald did not just sit and freeload off his family’s wealth, he worked hard, we worked long hours, he had many failures before he found success and he turned millions into billions.

Next point, privilege is not an excuse for not succeeding. The way the world works, the more you put in, the more you get out. If you work 10 times as hard as a wealthier person than you, if you earn that scholarship, if you plan that business, you will succeed, you will do 10x better than the wealthier guy. Don’t blame privileges when you work 7 hour days, when you didn’t pay attention in class, when you didn’t get the job you wanted. If you really want it, first you got to work for it.

In western society especially, I am tired of the words ‘male privilege’. Is male privilege the higher suicide rate? The higher percentage involved in and victims of crime? The people who are now half as likely to get a STEM job as an equally qualified female? Feminists like to pick and choose, that much is obvious. When was the last time we had a march protesting women’s rights in Saudi Arabia or Syria or Iran, when did we hear them say that female pornstars earn more than equivalent males, when did we hear them say there isn’t enough females in manufacturing or construction or trade jobs? Why? Because they don’t understand the way the cookie crumbles. No, instead we how there isn’t enough women CEOs of FTSE companies or engineers or lawyers. Women are not discriminated against in society nowadays, it’s illegal. When you take every single job available, add up the figures and decide there’s a gap between men and women without taking into account the actual jobs they do? That’s absurd. I am convinced that in the 21st century, the most discriminated against type of person will be the straight white male. Why? Because being straight, white and a man appears to be an excuse for a person being successful, they should be punished for having a privileged start in life. The people who say this, although they don’t realise it, will be the ones who are racist and sexist, talking about having privilege due to the colour of your skin, means you have to judge and discriminate against someone based on the colour of their skin. Just like the irony of Antifa in America, hiding their faces, picking on a certain group of people and committing violence against them, under the guise of defeating fascists, when in fact they are being fascists themselves.
