This is batshit insane.

Reliu had planned to renew his passport in Romania and return to Turkey, but on arrival, he was detained by immigration officers who informed him he had died in 2003.

While this story IS freaking crazy, and it is unbelievable they don't just erase the death certificate, I don't think this is a gender issue. The court probably didn't know an better, as at that point the men didn't give any sign of life for 4 years then. Only now, after nearly two decades does he suddenly show up.

Not saying it's the guys fault either, maybe he didn't know what was happening. Maybe he couldn't or wouldn't contact his wife. I mean this all is most likely a genuine mistake. One that they should fix immediately though, I can't believe the court just washed their hands as standard procedure can't help him and called it a day.
