Prostate cancer now bigger killer than breast cancer in the UK, still recieves half the funding and half the research that is devoted to breast cancer.

Brilliant sketch that highlights not only the lies about the gender earnings gap but also the left wing media's attempts to silence the truth.

"[Men] don't necessarily sell more books, they don't necessarily have more fans, but as far as prestige goes, there is still a difference there."

The mental gymnastics that SJWs engage in are astounding.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So male writers don't magically sell well, don't magically have a big audience, but they still have "prestige" [another word for privilege, I suppose].

I can't imagine being so stupid. If all men are not magically successful at something, where some women are highly successful, then maybe it's not gender at all.

Yeah, feminism is now well past the point of equal treatment for both sexes. It's essentially about promoting women over men on the basis of injustices that occurred decades ago and are now absent from modern western society.

Nobody is denying women the right to have their work published due to some bizarre form of sexism, but somebody had to make an issue out of it anyway, probably for promotional purposes.

They're talking about sex appeal.

The men have 'it' by writing a book and the women don't.

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No they're basically say that since some women outsell some men, women overall need special treatment to fight the bias that overall men sell better.

It's a classic bait and switch.

[–]v574v 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They are correct but the prestige comes from women. It's women who value those men.

Men don't much care about the success of a women so focusing on female authors for a year isn't going to change the romance that women have for successful men.

BBC bias and propaganda again: In the awards they do not even mention the Baileys / Orange prize for literature which is only open to women and has been won by a female for 22 years!

If they were truly woke, they'd only publish gay disabled transgender women with multiple allergies and personalities.

[–]BernieSandersgirl101 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If he was woke, he'd publish only men, blacks, disabled, Muslim, and/or homosexual/transgender. He'd only publish the books of the truly oppressed. White women aren't oppressed, they're privileged.

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points30 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's always the creepy men.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, I wonder why he really wants so many women approaching him desperate for a publishing deal?

[–]Lethn 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Now now guys, due process, let's make the joke's after he's convicted.

[–]aHugeGapingAsshole 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is already a bit of an unspoken fact regarding publishing. Look around agents and publishers - you'll find a lot of anti-male and anti-white bias couched in coded 'diversity' language.

"Why we need to drum up business with a publicity stunt because our offerings are otherwise not competitive enough."

[–]Spoopsnloops 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A good way to alienate potential readers and turn them off to female authors is to do exactly this. Their reason for doing it will also serve to hinder that very reason.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Male author go elsewhere and take profits with them.

[–]chambertlo 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That should be illegal.

At least you don't live in Bradford.

They don't necessarily sell more books, they don't necessarily have more fans, but as far as prestige goes, there is still a difference there

So... perception, then? Feels over reals

Here, watch this video about promoting mediocrity, Camille Paglia nails it

sounds like someone is going to be out of work in about a year....

[–]GTFonMF -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That dude, guaranteed, has no male genitalia.

[+]elebrin -8 points-7 points-6 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It sucks, but it makes sense. The vast majority of men don't purchase or read much fiction. It's a marketing ploy to be able to say they care about women, to their predominantly female audience.

[–]nforne 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

They responded to a call to arms by a female author who wanted all publishers to stop publishing men for a year in the name of equality (and boosting her own sales).

Only one company took her up, and the misandrist feminists at the BBC are rewarding them with an article and free publicity.

This is like someone asking employers to stop hiring men for a year to end the pay gap.

[–]elebrin 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Right.

A publisher is a business. A business who's primary audience is women. By only publishing women and being misandrist, they are getting positive press and getting positive advertising that will appeal to their target audience.

It isn't good or wonderful, but it shouldn't be surprising.

This is like someone asking employers to stop hiring men for a year to end the pay gap.

It would be like an ice cream shop next to a women's clothing and shoe store advertising that they only hire women. Its something that will look fantastic to their potential customer base.

[–]nforne 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I very much doubt that. Most customers, believe it or not, are basically decent people. They buy books written by their favourite authors or in a particular genre, and don't give a damn about the sex of the author.

So if this ban was widespread you'd have plenty of women who suddenly can't get their usual fix. I can't help but wonder if the author who proposed this ban has some stiff competition from men in her genre.

The crazy thing is the way this was reported. But that's the BBC for you.

[–]NibblyPig 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Audience is not the same as authors. Male authors are popular amongst women. Every week my mother seems to be reading a new John Grisham novel.

[–]Lupinfujiko 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The vast majority of men don't purchase or read much fiction.

I don't know about that man. Do you have any real stats on that? Most men I know love Fantasy and Sci-fi for example. They purchase more and read nuch more of those genres than women (in my experience).
