“There is a fashion today to say that gender is purely a social construct. In reality, gendered behaviour is a mix of biology and social influence, and I think our meta-analysis supports this view,” Barry told PsyPost.

That should be well & truly the end of the feminist "blank slate theory", but unfortunately it probably won't be. Feminists have consistently chosen to cling to their ideology and ignore facts & science that contradicts it, so why should they change their approach now?

Ha ha ha ha ah ha, I wish, I can't even get feminists to recognize the inherent contradiction between "gender is a social construct" and "transexuals are born that way".

Blank Slate, or tabla rasa isn't a feminist idea at all. Aristotle was the first known person to advocate it.

It used to inform the basis of the mens movement.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabula_rasa

What feminists did was apply it to gender, which helped the right take the focus off class being a social construct, which took over from the focus on working mens issues and getting a better deal from the elite, keeping big money out of politics and so on.

The feminist that introduced the idea that it should be applied to gender is Cathrine Mckinnion, and she was funded by the National Science Foundation to write the criticism of marxism and suggested the focus should be on gender, and the national science foundation were involved in counter marxist and counter left activities.

Which was great for the right, because for example arguments like anti-war and anti-draft could be turned into arguments about women in the military, so it doesn't challenge the underlying problem.

Same goes for wage gap, they were able to change the subject from getting decent wages for workers, to women spending more time in the work place, and blaming men, which doesn't address the real gap, the extreme one the elite have over the rest of us.

And modern feminism rejected the idea of gender as a pure social construct years ago. Its more a second wave thing.

Now there are gender essentialists (radical feminists who believe men are naturally more violent and women are naturally better nurturers) and some pure social constructionists, but they are on the peripherals.

And modern feminism rejected the idea of gender as a pure social construct years ago.

It seems that the vast majority of current feminists did not get that memo.

Modern feminism uses blank slate dogma to justify their position that discrimination is the cause of any imbalance in numbers in certain areas of life (where there are more men and the area isn't icky). Whether any particular feminist actually believes the tripe is another matter, but it's safe to say that many do or pretend to do where useful.

You can have what I can only describe as a hearty laugh at some modern feminists in this series of documentaries...

Tabula rasa

Tabula rasa () refers to the epistemological idea that individuals are born without built-in mental content and that therefore all knowledge comes from experience or perception. Proponents of tabula rasa generally disagree with the doctrine of innatism which holds that the mind is born already in possession of certain knowledge. Generally, proponents of the tabula rasa theory also favour the "nurture" side of the nature versus nurture debate when it comes to aspects of one's personality, social and emotional behaviour, knowledge and sapience.

Studies have said the same thing for the last 40 years. This woozle has a life of it's own by now.

Another study: "In a study of 34 rhesus monkeys, for example, males strongly preferred toys with wheels over plush toys, whereas females found plush toys likable. It would be tough to argue that the monkeys’ parents bought them sex-typed toys or that simian society encourages its male offspring to play more with trucks."

I don't get why people can't just let kids play with whatever kind of toys they want instead of making it into a big issue of "these are the kinds of toys my son / daughter should or should not be playing with"

[–]Taxus_Calyx 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No one in the article is saying what toys kids should play with. The research only notes the natural tendencies that are already present.

[–]HeForeverBleeds 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm just curious what is one to do with the information

[–]Taxus_Calyx 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Stop trying to force boys to be more like girls in school.

Stop favoring women based on gender and not merit when it comes to hiring.

It informs how gender may influence behavior even before puberty

"ages 1 to 8 years"

So, after one or more years of being given a particular type of toy, kids tend to go for that kind of toy. What a surprise! Next, they'll be claiming that little girls naturally like the color pink! No, folks, even by the age of one the kids have received many messages saying, "This is what you are supposed to do."
