Scenario 1: Settling

As /r/alphabachelor put it: "Low Hanging Fruit"

These guys have either no game, shitty physiques, dress like idiots or a combination of any or all three. Whatever the reason, they can't attract the women they want, so they settle. Chances are some of them truly like really fat women, but most of them just settle for fat women and rationalize it away. They probably jerk off to regular (not-fatty) porn too. The other side of the equation is that the fatty isn't getting attention from Chads so she settles for the guy who gives her the most attention. Chances are in some cases she really does like the guy from the start, but my experience and observations tell me she is usually settling and the guy is usually extremely skinny fat but also very tall.

In this scenario, both tend to be each other's lowest hanging fruit.

Scenario 2: Dopamine Exchange

For whatever reason, the guy ends up at fatty's place or her at his and they go at it and he is blown away by the sexual dementia this girl displays. He wants more of it so they see more of each other. Maybe fatty ends up seeing this guy several times... more often than any other guy. He gets great sex and she gets commitment. It's mutually beneficial for both parties. If sex with her sucked he wouldn't commit... even the most non-Chad guys understand that at some level.

Scenario 3: High Value Traits

As /r/throw162534 said, "She had a genuinely awesome personality - huge basketball fan, very nice and funny"

Throw on top of that she's domestic, submissive... basically she displays all manner of LTR/wife material. She may even fuck good. The only thing lacking is that she is 30 lbs overweight. She has a cute face and good proportions, but his friends can tell it's only getting worse... but he really likes her and they all get along well with each other. In this scenario, he may understand his lot in life, right now, and know that this is his best option... and it's not a bad option. He might even be able to get her to lose the weight if he starts getting swole, himself.

Scenario 4: The Sunk Cost [Fallacy]

As /r/throw162534 also said, "he feels like he owes her for sticking with him"

This scenario is likely most often found with the high-school sweetheart situation: They've known each other a long time, they keep breaking up and getting back together, etc, etc or they dated for a while and she slowly gained weight and in that time they went through ups and downs and eventually she gets fat enough that he can't get it up any more but he feels guilty about leaving because she's been around for so long or he feels like if he breaks up he will have wasted all that time.

And then maybe guy likes fat chicks because momma was fat too.

I was with an overweight chick for a while (not obese, but she had a good 30lbs or so extra). She had a genuinely awesome personality - huge basketball fan, very nice and funny. I hadn't really dated anyone for years. We had sex about 5 times and then I just couldn't do it anymore... I realized I wasn't attracted to her and I didn't want to lead her on. Told her I wasn't feeling it and we should stop seeing each other.

That's just one example.

My brother was dating a girl in decent shape - not bad looking at all but she was a total bitch - just a mean person overall. He transferred colleges and could have got a lot better looking girls but they had history so they tried having a LDR. He didn't cheat on her. Who knows if she did... Anyway she got fat in the meantime, and became even bitchier.

Midway through the first semester he got bone cancer on his knee. The tumor grew to the size of a football and he had to get his entire knee replaced with a prosthetic joint (metal knee + knee cap). He would've lost his leg if it wasn't for some amazing doctors. Throughout all his surgeries and chemo that girl was by his side - the bitchiness subsided and I gotta admit I gained a lot of respect for her. He's cancer free now for 8 years. They got married last October. She's back to being a bitch... but I think it's driven by disappointment in herself - she gained even more weight, but he feels like he owes her for sticking with him. They have a kid now...

There're a lot of reasons.

Fat and unattractive women are better at sex than fit women, they compensate their lack of good looks by performing amazing blowjobs and anal. But see it as a pump and dump, or keep as plate, long term won't work unless you are a low self esteem fat slob yourself.

the other poster nailed it. Sometimes, the girl who is slightly overweight has a great personality. But in the context of obesity, I think thats just bad news. comes down to the low hanging fruit. Or he started dating her when they were both skinny but she gained weight due to the stresses of life

Fat and unattractive women tend to make the move instead of the other way around. Because the guy is so beta that he won't approach girls that are attractive he's relieved that a woman would approach him. He gets sex, she gets commitment and life goes from there.
