Thousands of dads are left in shock as DIY paternity tests soar. Up to 30,000 tests are being performed every year, says Alphabiolabs. In the UK about 750,000 babies are born every year. Feminists want the test to be illegal without the written consent of the mother.

Mother-of-two, 40, falsely branded a neighbour a sex offender because he 'made too much noise building a guinea pig hutch in his garden'. It seems for many women if they do not get their way they make a false sex allegation knowing a man is not protected by the law.

I am not sure if a person who stabbed people should become a surgeon after all. Making a hobby a profession, or what?

It's unlikely she would pass the GMC fitness to practice screening, which makes the judge's reasoning even more baffling.

Wanna bet? :)

She would need to pass GMC fitness to practice before she could continue her course. As she has this conviction for violent behaviour, a history of drug and alcohol abuse (for which she has received treatment) and an eating disorder this would be a very difficult task indeed. In fact, she has reportedly dropped out and is looking to pursue other career options abroad.

abroad? Shit I hope she doesn't come to my country xDDD

[–]mikesteane 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Apparently, she is looking at Australia. Maybe she was hoping to be transported when she committed her crime.

Well, as far as I've heard everything in Australia is trying to kill you so... good luck I guess?

Well...the snakes aren't so much of a problem any more as the spiders have eaten most of them

From the articles I've read, it honestly sounds like the stabbing happened because she was introduced to, and became addicted to, some kind of mood altering drugs.

Junkies do crazy shit sometimes, but they can be reformed. I would argue that the judge made the right call, and that she should be allowed to continue on her career path now that she has gone through rehab, as long as she is watched closely for further aberrant behavior.

But, my opinion has nothing to do with her profession choice or her aptitude, whereas the judge's decision did. I believe getting addicted to drugs and making further mistakes while intoxicated on them should be looked on with some sympathy in the case of a first time offender. They should be mandated treatment, not jail time. This applies to anyone, not just attractive, rich, young medical students.

But this judge obviously only passed this ruling because she is a rich, young medical student. Probably helps that she's attractive too. And that is a serious issue.

Intoduced to drugs? You mean she didn't wanted to take them out of her own intention? That is a assumption on your part without any proof. What about the argument that she is simply a distructive person? What says the hypothetical oath? First do no harm. Well, she harmed two people seriously. Herself and the person she stabbed.

Actually It doesn't even matter if she is destructive or simply irresponsible. Both are character traits that disqualify her. There aren't many professions where you have a to trust a person as much, as the surgeon that cuts you up. He or she holds your life in his or her hands. Life is not a game for stupid kids and your compassion doesn't make you necessarly a better person.

People that have a history of heavy drug use may not be the best people to give a prescription pad to as well.

The complaint has nothing to do with his whiteknight sentencing though.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The trouble here is that we never see this kind of understanding applied to men or boys.

Many of us will say this woman should be given the same treatment a man would have gotten. I have said similar things in my darker hours.

but really, should this girl be 'tried as a black man' like that old onion article, or should we all be tried as pretty young white girls?

Don't worry, I'm a man - the proper target of all violence, a white cis male even - fire away.

[–]VivaRickSanchez 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Wat...? The point is justice is supposed to be blind. It shouldn't matter who your parents are, what you look like, what you have between your legs, how much money you have or what your future could be. Everyone should be tried equally. This judge is obviously biased towards, at least, young female upper class citizens. This sub is generally about egalitarianism. We just want fair and equal treatment under the law.

[–]I_lurk_u_long_time 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think the idea is that all sentencing should be equitable, but it should be as lenient as upper class young white women receive now, instead of being as harsh as the punishments poor black men receive now. Basically, if a poor black man stabbed his tinder date and was let off to not hurt his employment opportunities, that would still be equitable, just much less harsh.

[–]BobbTheBuilder 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Considering she got let off easy for stabbing, it should probably be much less lenient than it is on people like her.

[–]BobbTheBuilder 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This kind of understanding has been applied to men before though

E.g brock turner

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they both got extremely light sentences for what they did on the grounds of their "promising future"

Only difference is he's had more time/exposure for people to get offended about it

[–]contractor808 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, Turner did not rape, the victim said he should not be jailed, both were extremely drunk with the victim taking part in drinking before even attending the party. It was mutually consensual drunken behavior. The female probation officer recommended the sentence as well.

I'm not familiar with this 'watchdog' group. Anyone care to ELI5 and if it's significant at all?

[–]Electroverted 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think the fact that her family is rich will be seen as the bigger deal in this probe.
