No it is not fair.

Do not fall for the line that women give birth. South Korea has one of the lowest fertility rates in the world. 1.29 children per woman.

The population is not sustainable.

[–]tito333[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They'll be in the same boat as Japan soon.

[+]xNOM -7 points-6 points-5 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

So you think they should solve their demographic problems by sending women to war? LOL What kind of argument is that?

[–]furchfur 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No but you could state: Both men and women must do 2 years national service between the ages of 18 and 25 unless the woman has a child. That would increase the birthrate! Besides if you have men and women living side by side the birthrate will also increase.

[–]GimmeDaScoobySnacks 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dont you support equality? Dont be a sexist and support equality!

[–]Razorbladekandyfan 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Are you pushing for women to be drafted to give birth? If not, you are a hypocrite.

[–]omegaphallic 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

The draft is a form of slavery, its wrong period.

[–]xNOM -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

The lamest leftist argument ever... "Let's just pretend for a second that wars don't exist. I win."

[–]omegaphallic 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I never suggested don't exist, I just support a voluntary military.

[–]xNOM 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

This argument makes zero sense. War is not a luxury item. Ask Ukrainians. Do you also support voluntary taxes and jury duty? It's funny how the left is always pushing things that need to be done together as a country until it comes to defending the very existence of the country.

[–]leetchaos 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You know what's also a lame argument? Congress authorized a war, you're required to risk your life now. Slavery. Governments love it.

[–]xNOM 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

ROFL are taxes and jury duty also slavery? Give me a break, snowflake.

[–]leetchaos 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

More like stealing. Its my money. I'll be a "snowflake" about people using force to take it thank you very much.

[–]Razorbladekandyfan 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

It is slavery, leftism or no leftism.

[–]Rickoversghost 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Except you get paid... so there's that.

[–]Razorbladekandyfan 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

You don't get paid a salary that can sustain you without anything else. Tell you what, why dont you start a petition to reintroduce the draft as since it has done such great things with the lives of men. You know since MRAs dont really care about male wellbeing, this move would fit right in with the movement.

[–]Rickoversghost 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yes you do. I was in the military for 12.5 years, got along just fine with what I was paid even when I just got in. I'm not saying the draft is a good thing, I enjoyed being in an all volunteer military. However when you say it's slavery, you are wrong.

[–]Razorbladekandyfan 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

CONSCRIPTS in Greece are paid 8 euroes per month, do you think they pay the professional soldiers that?

[–]Rickoversghost 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No, but I was talking about the US where someone who is drafted would make the same as a volunteer in that pay grade. We are both guilty of generalizing I guess. However that is horrible and wrong about Greece and anywhere else that happens.

[–]Razorbladekandyfan 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Good for americans for actually paying the men when they conscript them. Yes I do think that if you are paid a humiliating amount of money for defending your country, that is slavery! (of course i was not talking about enlisting on your own volition, thats different altogether)

[–]Rickoversghost 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is atrocious, I'm sorry that's happening to them.

[+]game_r1 points 8 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

The draft should be tied to military career. Not drafting women means that they shouldn't be allowed to hold military careers at any capacity.

[–]snake_and_scorpion 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Do you agree that if women can't be drafted, they shouldn't have the right to vote?

[+]game_r1 points 8 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

This is an interesting question. I believe that men should have the ability to draw some fucking lines, which we have shown to fail miserably for the past 50 years. Sometimes I wonder if the general public is doomed to elect demagogues, crooks and idiots.

Regarding women's suffrage, it definitely shouldn't have been simply handed away to women when large scale warfare was a harsh reality. At the same time I don't believe women should be treated like kids.

[–]snake_and_scorpion 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for your response it's very interesting to read.

[–]contractor808 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, but I'd rather they do both. Repealing suffrage isn't possible due to women having a majority of votes anyway, even if all men voted in favor.

[–]Quest2o9123 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So women want only the good parts of equality, as soon as it seems bad then nope it should be olny men who get the bad.

[–]snake_and_scorpion 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The article features several women campaigning for the draft to expand to women.

[–]tito333[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's what I've noticed, a lot of my female friends will accuse their friend dating an older woman of being a sugar baby. They sabotage themselves.

[–]Razorbladekandyfan 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This petition is stellar! :D

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not that it really matters with a Nuclear Armed Hostile Neighbour.

Nukes do not care about your Sex/Gender.

[–]TheTyke 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not fair but it's better than having women in the military. Studies show they are disturbingly ineffective in the armed forces and often lead to higher casualty rates in their units.

[–]BlindGardener 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I am in favor of women being drafted IF men are drafted.

I am not in favor of the draft.

[–]tito333[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The Israelis have it right.

[–]Captain_Yid -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Women shouldn't be in the military because of biology. They're typically weaker than men. They become pregnant and their breast milk is important for their babies. Sexualizing a military environment creates a variety of problems. Also, populations can absorb large losses of men easier than women because female capacity for reproduction is far more limited than the male capacity.

There are probably military jobs that are exceptions (e.g. ones where you can stay home), but that's my two cents.

[–]tito333[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even if this statistically the case, they should be drafted for those jobs they can do, in the same way that a scrawny guy won't get the job of lifting up the heaviest backpack in the unit.

[+]d4m4s74 -7 points-6 points-5 points 8 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

The draft is wrong, period, but since it still exists I think it's better that only men are drafted, because I think otherwise too many man would die needlessly while trying to protect women instead of doing their job and protecting themselves.
That obviously doesn't mean women can't be in the military if they've proven they're able to do the job.

[–]HeForeverBleeds 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

too many man would die needlessly while trying to protect women

...

doesn't mean women can't be in the military if they've proven they're able to do the job

I don't understand this. If you think men would die needlessly trying to protect women in the military, then why should women be allowed into the military at all, whether they're drafted or not?

If you're saying it's only the weaker women who men will try to protect and not the ones who prove they can do the job, then why not draft the strongest women and the strongest men and leave the weakest of both genders? It's not as if a weak man who can't do the job would be much less of a liability than a weak woman who can't do the job

[–]d4m4s74 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Basically because of sexism. The strong men probably won't try to protect the weaker men, causing only one casualty instead of two. Best would of course be to just put those who are willing and able in the military, but then there wouldn't be a draft.

[–]Razorbladekandyfan 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No but it doesnt make sense to let women join voluntarily but not draft them. You are either fit for military service, or not.

[–]furchfur 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You could state the same for men as well. Let them join voluntarily. If the pay is high enough they would not need a draft.

[–]snake_and_scorpion 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What happens when there's not enough in the military budget to attract enough volunteers?

[–]furchfur 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You increase taxes on the public to pay for it. Like every other public sector department that needs more money.

[–]HeForeverBleeds 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Are you sure? Because I always thought brothers-in-arms tried to look out for each other, bring an injured man to safety, etc. not just leave a guy behind because he's a guy

Sometimes working together rather than "every man to himself" that can lead to more casualties and other times that can lead to people's lives being saved. It's not necessarily better that a soldier leave another behind than that he try to protect or save him / her
