The US is not looking the other way, we can't roll in and start arresting ANA commanders. When there's evidence the process follows a sad futile track. Brass confronts a regional commander, he acts appalled that colonel such and such keeps a harem of drugged up slave boys. Brass demands we roll in for an unannounced inspection to catch them and save the little boys. The commander hums and haws for a bit but agrees. Two days later ANA and us troops roll in, surprise inspection boy fuckers, you're going down.

And are greeted by colonel such and such, with a shit eating grin. "Inspect away he says, there are no boys here".

He found out about brass's meeting with the commander maybe an hour after it happened. All the boys have been moved up a mountain for a few days.

And because we can't violate their soveriegnty any commander that pushes it knows they're gambling their career, even if you see it, walk into a room and 5 bearded old men are running a train on a 12 year old while two more dance in the corner so drugged up they're falling over, you face court marshal if you do anything about it. You can report it, but then the cycle of futility begins anew.

That was way longer than I planned to go. TLDR, politics prevents US forces from taking active measures against child abuse in Afghanistan. It's something US troops hate.

Can confirm. I was in the Nangahar Province from 2011-2012. There were multiple populated areas that we had a presence in which not only the police chiefs, but also the local politicians kept young boys around for obvious reasons. I saw a lot of brass ignore this horrifying fact. Really messed up stuff.

Of course the reason this is a problem to begin with is the draconian restrictions on unmarried men having sex. Par for the course for any third world country, but naturally only women's "problems" are on the radar screen in the West.
