Yes. It's actually common knowledge. HR depts are like CPS; if they get involved, they usually make the situation infinitely worse. I have stories upon stories of HR being more an impediment to the company that employs them than a benefit, but they are given absolute authority over certain, key, aspects of a business which means their word is sacrosanct.

Largely why I'm contract and only work for smaller companies anymore. I'll do the occasional large contract, but I charge them obscene amounts of money due to the stress of trying to avoid any more interaction with HR than I strictly have to.

Yes. I've been reported for asking a coworker if they wanted to grab drinks after work. Didn't get a no, just a screenshot sent to HR by them.

What else are you going to do with a Gender Studies, etc. degree that beat victimhood narratives into you, taught you to be identity politics activists and authoritarians?

It's now worse than just HR departments. HR organisations are also infested with feminists, which exacerbates the problem at the company level, and helps with hiring (positioning) more and more ideologues into positions of power throughout target industries, such as STEM.

HR is there to protect the company. They usually take the path of least resistance, which is to get rid of the complainer. They know that if a woman complains of rape and they don't take it seriously, it will look bad for the company, but if a man complains of rape and they don't take it seriously, no one will care, so it's easier to just get rid of him. I wouldn't say that they are radical feminists, but they are simply trying to protect the company from liability.

Update from the other subreddit where this was posted, because I couldn't help myself: The manager has decided to terminate the female employee, and states that if she files a lawsuit, that it's in the company's best interest to stand behind him. Thought all of my fellow HR pros would get a kick out of that.

Its a shame they actually laugh at doing the right thing.

One of the unintended consequences of stuff like this is that men will start clamming up around the women they work with, especially if sensitive topics are being discussed. Not exactly conducive to equal treatment. Feminists sure are good at shooting themselves in the foot...

In the old days we had Personnel Departments. These did exactly what you'd expect them to: handle all the paperwork related to hiring and firing people. But the modern world isn't comfortable with something this straightforward. Why, with a process that transparent the place will be filled to the roof with microagressing white guys and all their privilege.

We need some opacity if we're going to get racial/gender/non-binary/pro-non-neurotypical justice and that means transparency is out. So, weirdly, we do need some hand-holding. Yes, HR is going to shuffle the new hires' paperwork around, but they are also going to put up all those posters pumping diversity, and they are going to make the annual review process involve Maoist self-criticism, and they're going to produce sexual harassment training videos of stupefying mendacity. So it is actually pretty useful for them to tell us that HR "participates in systemwide policy and decision-making." Especially since that involves decisions on whether you should be fired for making an off-color joke after decades of loyal work for the company. Sweetened bullshit indeed.

Since the 1980s, human resources departments have expanded to the point where nearly every midsize company has an HR department. The purpose of HR is ostensibly to manage hiring, employee retention and terminations, but this could be easily covered by ordinary management. The real reason HR has grown so much over the years is legal and regulatory compliance. HR is all about following the rules from on high, including affirmative action quotas, policies regarding discrimination and harassment and other ideological matters.

In this way, HR closely resembles the old commissariat of the USSR and other Communist countries. Commissars were a fact of life in Soviet factories, each of which had at least one “politruk” (political officer) who would enforce the rules and ensure adherence to Soviet ideology. In the final days of the USSR, the politruk was seen as something of a joke not to be taken too seriously, but for a long time people genuinely feared them.

In the US, people have good reason to fear HR, because they do exercise authority, and your job relies on being in good graces with the department. ... Naturally, people working in HR have let the power go to their heads. They have started to hire employees that suit their own tastes, and the results have been curious...

The real problem, however, isn’t HR itself. HR is only there because of the myriad regulations that have been implemented over recent decades. If these poltically mandated regulations were removed, companies would soon find HR to be a redundant department. More outspoken and honest people could breathe a sigh of relief, and the workplace might come to resemble a prison a little less.

What I've found is the HR departments are generally tools of the management to CYA everything they do. I don't know that their feminists although they tailor a lot of things to what the government expects. I wouldn't be surprised though if they throw the little people under the bus to get more cover for the big guys. We would never condone this director sexually harassing anyone. See we fired this mail room clerk for it just last month.
