"The student union said the film perpetuated the myth of rampant false allegations of sexual assault, when studies have shown that the false reporting of sexual violence was rare."

What makes you think it's rare? What that is is an accounting trick. If we can't prove that it's false then it must be true even if we can't prove that it's true. I could just as easily find that 99% of all rape accusations are false since only 11 of 1,000 reports get as far as a prosecutor. The evidence for the other 989 is so flimsy it didn't even get that far.

True.

Also, note the false equivalence of substituting false allegation rates (based on whatever dubious statistical processes) tabulated from allegations made to police and district prosecutors, to simply assuming false allegation rates made to college administrators by people seeking to get someone kicked off campus for PC reasons, will be the same.

As the current university climate makes clear, there is no shortage of deranged campus SJWs willing to invent a false accusation, in order to have a man kicked off campus for infractions, either real or imagined. A man doesn't toe the line on PC crapola and fall in line with the doctrines of "safe space"? Well, let's see he is kicked out and a black mark is placed on his transcript. Easy - in this case, the campus disciplinary proceedings will be a politically correct farce, there would be no due process, no cross investigation, and a false allegation will will never be investigated, much less penalized. Plenty a deranged feminist would do it. As it is, absolute power corrupts absolutely, and on college campuses, feminists exercise absolute power.

After all, if a feminist's viewpoint is that a male does not deserve to benefit from the educational opportunities that a university offers for whatever bullshit PC reasons, it's a short step from there to ginning something up to get them kicked out from a place where you (erroneously) believe he doesn't belong.

eg. refusing to date her.

eg. refusing to date her.

Could be. It could also be a person who has a politically incorrect sense of humor and someone else seeking to have that person expelled from a dormitory floor or living space, or an entire university.

The falsely accused could have been overheard saying something objectionable and deemed to be incompatible with the "community standards" some other individual sanctimoniously applied to their perceived "community."

Could have been a thoroughly consensual sexual encounter that someone thought was "sketchy" for whatever reason, though the encounter was entirely non-problematic in reality. So, get the person expelled.

Could be a million different reasons.

Sorry I've been here so long and told this so many times I just assume all the regulars know.

That's what happened to me. A female student was harassing me. I reported it (and harassment by other females), was told to put up with it and it got to the point where she explicitly threatened me in writing (via email) for refusing to date her.

So there's her reported harassment of me and also an unequivocal act of sexual harassment in threatening me for refusing to date her.

All erased by her falsely accusing me - a gay man - of sexually harassing her.

And I'm aware there other motivations for false accusations. I reckon it's often a mad power trip.

On my first day on that job I had one female student try to bully me into giving her an extension for an assignment. She wanted an extension but wouldn't provide any reason or supporting documentation. Nothing. Because, she said, I'm a man and she didn't feel comfortable telling me. Which was fine with me. I told her she could talk to a female staff member who was just across the hall and who had had my job previously. Nope. She wouldn't do that. I told her she could talk to the female course co-ordinator. Nope. She wouldn't do that either. I told her she could talk to any of the female counsellors at student support services or any medical doctor and get a letter from them simply stating that they supported her getting an extension and for how long. No need to provide details. Nope. She just wanted to bully me into giving her the extension.

Towards the end she flung an accusation of 'discrimination' at me and that she'd take it to the head of school. I offered to let her use my own phone to make that appointment and gave her the number. She backed off.

The bizarre thing is she actually already had an extension from the person who was in the job previously and had been given to her tutor to give to her. But she hadn't been turning up to classes and also had said nothing to me about having made that application, which only made its way back to me after the tutor gave up on her coming to class. The previous person - someone I knew and stayed in contact with - told me she'd given it to the tutor (unlike all the other extension paperwork) so I wouldn't have to deal with that student, who she had found to be unpleasant.

Mad power trip.

Oh crap.

Did you sue?

You should sue.

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

I did.

But they had my first lawyer working for them (and later thanked him by making him a judge). That didn't help.

They also held it up in court for 4 years, when sexual harassment cases are supposed to be finalised within 1, and eventually broke me when the court breached my privacy by giving my convicted attempted strangler of a stalker my home address. That was the 4th such breach in as many years.

So I had to move again. Yay.

In the next hearing the judge threatened to immediately throw out the case if I didn't give the court - and my homicidal stalker - my new home address.

I would have gave him my address and stuck it out. Buy a gun. And put a camera outside of your home.

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I live in Australia. Guns are neither legal nor I imagine easy to come by.

I also have housemates and they have pets. She's willing and able to kill a person so I doubt she'd have any qualms about killing animals if she thought that would cause me grief.

Her not having my address is the only protection we have against her.

The logic can be simplified.

If not proven false,

Then true.

This is how humans operate in general, and the basis of religion. When we read newspapers, every time we consider it gospel unless we were actually there ourselves to know they got it wrong.

Same thing.

I posted this somewhere else today:

Out of all reports of rape and sexual assault, around 8% are false accusations and in around 5% of those cases, the accused is convicted in the first trial(may be acquitted in the next with further evidence). So the other 87% of cases are undecided or dropped or not taken up at all due to lack of evidence or obvious false accusation.

Now how do feminists interpret these statistics? In most feminist publications this will be reported as follows.

Out of every 100 rapists, only 5 will face legal sentences, the other 95 go scot free. [Notice the dishonesty, 'rapists' should be replaced with 'rape and sexual assault reports'. Only 5% cases have enough evidence to lead to a conviction, the other 95% are not rapists getting lucky and escaping justice; they include some true rape cases without enough evidence(either he-said-she-said or often minor sexual assaults, they don't leave much evidence) and some false accusations which were not proven false. Due process bitch, deal with it!]

Only 8% of rapes are false accusations. [again very dishonest, when we talk of false accusations, we talk of false reports and also false accusations in social, professional circles. False accusations outside of court are a lot more frequent. Also, statistically speaking, atleast 8% of cases are false accusations(not only). So anywhere between 8% - 95% are potential false accusations. That is a lot].

Female privilege once again rears its ugly head.

Women might feel afraid, let's censor everyone and refuse to allow them to speak!

Damseling shitheads abound.

On second thought, screw your feelings.
