Of the 345 ‘people’ who died in English and Welsh prisons last year, 323 (94%) were men. It’s obvious where we should focus our sympathies and resources. BBC piece: ‘Dying in prison: Two women’s stories’

The BBC News Team Just can't be Weened Off Their Gynocentric Junky Fix Of Mainlined Feminism. They are The Personification of Sensational Gynocentric Journalism "Run Amok.

Some Basic Data On UK Prison Deaths over the last 5 complete years 2012-16.

Year Total Deaths Female Deaths Male Deaths Female % Male %
2012 192 4 188 2.08 97.92
2013 215 6 209 2.79 97.21
2014 242 13 229 5.37 94.63
2015 256 8 248 3.13 96.88
2016 345 22 323 6.38 93.62

The BBC's Hysteria seems to be driven by the 275% Jump in female deaths - a real figure of 14 More deaths - whilst the Statistically and Socially illiterate BBC Journalist and Editorial team see only a 30% increase in male deaths - a real number of 75.

The reality is that the rate of male death has increased far more than the rate of female death, but as a Fully Feminism 3 compliant Institution, the BBC can't see the men for the Feminists in the bloody way of reality!

  • Inquest.org Deaths in Prison
  • Inquest.org Deaths of women in prison
  • Male Numbers are not Enumerated by Inquest.org - being Functional Misandry
  • Male deaths are calculated as "Deaths in Prison" - "Deaths of women in prison" = "Male Death In Prison"

That whole thing is just like the "The #1 cause of death for women are work is homicide accounting for 32% of deaths while for men it is only 8%, OMG we must do something about the deaths of women at work , this is unacceptable".

Of course the problem is that the number of men who die from murder is MORE than for women of all causes combined.

[–]Consilio_et_Animis 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. And note the bar charts they had comparing percentage stats between female and male inmates — as long as the charts showed the women worse off of course.

But when it came to a graph of number of female suicides by year, then there was no comparison with men, as then the female suicides would have become invisible as they are so tiny in comparison.

And nowhere a mention of how men are far more likely to end-up in prison as women are for the same offence and criminal history.

So, did any news outlet report on the men's fate in prisons at all? Anyone from UK can help me understand?

[–]Imnotmrabut 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not One.

The BBC have been driven by the Propaganda position presented by a Sensational Press release - "INQUEST asks how many women need to die on the inside before Governments take action?"

As Usual, Lazy BBC News Staff just peddle the sensationalist and lack the talent or wit to produce quality research or journalism.

Well the overal statistics get reported. If you want specific men's deaths then:

I expect them to report individual/specific events, but they typically never present it as a men's rights issue. The tone is often dismissive or somehow trace the issue back to women.

It would usually be considered a prison reform issue rather than a right's issue per se (a large section of the press and country in general would react poorly to anything that suggests prisoners' rights). Of course since the current government is unlikely to increase prison spending to any meaningful extent (or take meaningful steps to lower the prison population) it doesn't really make any difference. The situation isn't going to get any better.

[–]Ted8367 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well the overal statistics get reported.

The OP's point is that they don't "get reported"; it's more like they get misreported, in such a way as to obscure the much more serious situation for men.

If you want specific men's deaths then:

Pulling up a few instances of male deaths in prison, and ignoring the vast bulk of them, is another way of obscuring the truth.

[–]p3ngwin 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

CTRL-F "men", or specifically "<space>men" else you just get results including the word "mentally", etc...

aaaaand men are literally mentioned twice in the entire article, and only in a bad light, as excuses for why these women are in prison.

In other words, women have no agency, and the classic "what could have driven them to do xx ?" is used to excuse women's responsibilities for their actions.

Then there's this chestnut:

Corston noted that most women who go to prison have not committed a violent crime - the Prison Reform Trust says 85% have been sentenced for a non-violent offence, compared with 70% of male prisoners - and argued that in such cases they should not receive custodial sentences at all. Instead they should be referred to "women's centres" - support and supervision centres in the community - to receive help for problems such as addiction, mental illness, homelessness and domestic violence.

Women aren't to be put in prison, they should be treated with compassion and sympathy, while men suffering exactly the same problems of homelessness, mental problems, addictions, etc ?

Men are monsters and need to be punished, obviously.

the Prison Reform Trust says 85% have been sentenced for a non-violent offence, compared with 70% of male prisoners

The crux of this is that the court system is also biased such that women that commit violent crimes are not sentenced as a violent offender. If women were prosecuted comparably to men for things like sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse, the numbers would be a lot higher.

...and rape, don't forget female rapists never being sentenced :(

[–]Archimald 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's almost like they know no one will care about prison deaths unless they highlight that it also happens to women.

[–]KingRobotPrince 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah but "awww, it's a woman, that's sad. Women need to be looked after."

This is actually a little patronising to women.

I read this article yesterday, it fair got my goat.
