It was added that in some drugs testing cases, these generalisations may have instead put men’s health at risk. Lazaroids, a rejected stroke treatment, may have worked for men but was deemed as no longer working after being used on both sexes.

My question would be how is this handled if it was approved for men, but a transgender person who identifies as male wants to take it.

I assume they'd say it refers to sex not gender.

remember, biological sex is a social construct

Let them pay for it and find out for themselves.

Depends on whether the reason it works is testosterone related (likely transman usable) or genetic structures tied to lack of a second X chromosome (transman not-usable)

[–]BDMR_lurker 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

By the time you're an adult, genetics are not the only factor.

[–]SacredWeapon 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I didn't create the drug. Point is, if it's tied to the hormones that a trans-person uses, it'd be no issue; if it's tied to something else, there might be an issue.

I'm going to be that jerk: women are getting what they deserve for letting a vocal minority be their only voice for decades.

You can't ask scientists to become martyrs for the cause of women, when it's women who will crucify them anyway.

It's not even pragmatic: by not rocking the boat, they at least get results for 48% of humanity, which is 48% more than if they got sacked.

.

Then again, gender is social construct, so women just have to identify as a non-binary man prior to popping their pills, and all will be fine.

Well, as it says in the bottom of the article, because of this fear of being accused of sexism, men's health is sometimes put at risk as well.

It was added that in some drugs testing cases, these generalisations may have instead put men’s health at risk. Lazaroids, a rejected stroke treatment, may have worked for men but was deemed as no longer working after being used on both sexes.

I know.

Goes to show, the war of sexes has only losers.

And to be honest, it does affect women more: barring necessity (such as female contraception), guinea pigs are men to a large majority.

For once, male disposability has a little upside.

[–]Hateblade 20 points21 points22 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, that whole thing called 'reality.' We're so sorry that exists.

[–]fiadiana 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

'Reality' is a tool of the patriarchy.

[–]User-31f64a4e 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not 'reality' per se, just facts. Facts are oppressive.

Feelings are also real, also reality.

By privileging facts over feelings, you are being a male chauvinist pig shitlord patriarch misogynist privileged CIS white male oppressor. Women have their own ways of projecting inventing from whole cloth knowing!

Oh yeah. When we go to feels over reals, then of course we replace arguments with name calling ...

[–]Kungfoohustler 13 points14 points15 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

But is it really true that researchers focus on men? This article argues otherwise and seems well sourced:

http://www.salon.com/2000/09/20/womens_health/

Warren Farrell also argues this is a myth in the Myth of Male Power.

[–]baskandpurr 20 points21 points22 points 9 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

No, they don't but nobody would care if it read "Researchers' sexism fears are putting men's health at risk". If it puts women at risk then it has to be stopped, if it puts men at risk then that's just how it is. Hence the difference in workplace deaths, which you are misogynist for mentioning at all. You want more women to take dangerous jobs? Why do you hate women?!

[–]Seohcap 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Damned if you do, misogynist if you don't.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Well, the solution to this problem is so obviously clear. Research women's brains, and generalize the results for men. Women should never suffer as a result of such overt and hostile misogyny. The claim of hormone interference is sexism plain and simple, another example of male scientists blaming "hysterical women" for their own incompetence. (/s)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Using more women as testing animals won't get popular anytime soon.

[–]PotatoDonki 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Doesn't this also endanger men for the very same reasons? But once again we fall into the "how this harms women" avenue of persuasion.

Not a men's rights issue. It's not men's health being affected.
