I think lots of guys have that little anxiety attack when they realise some overbearing do-gooder could ruin their life just because you are talking to a kid.

I hadn't realized it was that bad. Why do I get the feeling that all this leaves female pedopiles a wide open field and that male pedophiles will be a thing of the past?

She folded her arms, and I could see an unspoken accusation in her eyes.

“I’ll go and talk to my wife.”

Like most women, she just had to try and get in one last dig. “I think that would be best.”

I was faintly embarrassed by her behaviour. In the past I probably would have gotten angry, but I just couldn’t be bothered. I was here for Uncle Sid’s birthday, not to put some over-protective mother in her place. I knew the look she had given me, because I’d seen it before. I used to teach music, and it was the same look that myself and the other male teachers used to get on a depressingly regular basis. She had decided (using her “women’s intuition” no doubt) that I was going to molest her kids. There was no point in trying to talk to her any further, or worse, attempting to talk to her children as any further communication would be taken as further evidence that she was right.

I don’t blame people for being protective of their children, but enough is enough. How on earth was I going to molest her children in front of over 50 adults sitting not 5 yards away? I’m sick of the irrational fear of men that has developed over the last 10 years. It’s one of the reasons I quit teaching music, in fact. The risk was just too great that an accusation would be made. The young guy teaching to a class full of students in the room next to me was dragged through the mud by a hysterical mother who claimed he “touched her daughter” in front of a class of 20 students with a half-dozen parents looking on! Not one of the parents who were in the room were prepared to stand up and defend him, but all quietly acknowledged to the director of the school that nothing had happened. Frankly, he got lucky, because the next time that woman accused him, there were no parents watching the class. Fortunately, she had very little credibility left at that point. To say he was a nervous wreck after that would be an understatement though.

I have taken my little girl to the park to see a woman rush her children to a car because I was approaching the park. I don't know how to explain it other than I am suspect because I am a man approaching a children's area, even with a child.

I hear you. Some of the looks I have gotten just from walking down the street with my daughter or dropping her off at dance class, you would be surprised. Always from women though.

Men must have an excuse to interact with children and have clear "proof" that they're not sexual predators. Even your language reflects that, IMO. Calling kids "ankle biters" is an instinctive attempt to sound like you have no interest in them. We live in a sad world.

You're suffering because of:

Misandry, which assumes all individual men are bad.
Hysteria, which assumes that all kids are so attractive, people will want to accost them in a retail store, and hook up with them in the bathroom.
Failure to admit that most sexual abuse is committed by the parents or other family members, not strangers.

The one person a kid probably SHOULD be talking to is a stranger, if the implication is that rape follows talking. Kids should avoid parents.

You place yourself at huge risk as a man when talking to an unattended child alone. Even fathers who are on an outing with their children aren't safe from scolding, presumption and harassment (though it depends on the community you reside in).

Hate to say this but its probably best you limit your interactions with children at your job. Unless you've got back-up, it can be misinterpreted and the next thing you know you're being interrogated by police.

I'm a 46 year old guy. I've had little kids come up to me at stores, restaurants, etc. I talk to them with no fucks given because they are kids and I think kids are awesome. If their parent has a problem with that then that's their fucking problem, not mine. If you act like you are guilty of doing something wrong, then people will suspect that you are.

Edit: if you are a parent who is so hyper-paranoid at the world and thinks their kid is always in danger, then you shouldn't take them out in public without being glommed to your hip where you can "protect them", or just lock them in thejr room at home where you can guarantee their safety but sacrifice their future.
