Obama and CNN are stirring up moral outrage based on the idea that women/girls around the world are deprived education, and Obama is touting the billions of dollars that have been pledged on the issue. In reality, under-education is a gender neutral problem. But nobody cares about the boys.

Women’s superior educational attainment in the US has been widely recognized[1], though nonetheless we are still told that male education can never be a priority.

Worldwide, men receive somewhat more schooling (an average of 8 years schooling by age 30, compared to 7 for women), but PC propagandists want us to believe that women are severely oppressed in this area.

The statistician Hans Rosling discussed public mis-information about women’s global education in a 2014 Ted talk.[2] He has conducted surveys where he informs people, correctly, that men on-average receive 8 years of education, and then asks them how much education they estimate women receive. He talked about 3 test groups, a Swedish audience, a US audience, and an elite audience at the Ted talk. The results broke down like this:

Sweden: 9% said 7 years; 46% said 5; 45% said 3. USA: 24% said 7; 52% said 5; 24% said 3. Ted: 18% said 7; 31% said 5; 49% said 3.

All of the groups dramatically overestimated the difference, and all erred in the direction of considering women/girls more disadvantaged than they were.

I wonder how much more misled the population will be after Michelle Obama is done with her campaign.

Is that a myth? There are some countries in the world where it's literally illegal for women to go to school. I would be surprised if literacy rates weren't at least a little lower for women on average globally than men. Significantly so in some places.

Hang on. They're talking about third world countries, not the developed world. Note they mention that the organization is running programs in "over 50 countries". They're not running these in countries that don't need them. I don't have any problem at all with this organization, in fact I support them, there is a genuine need for the work they do in the places they do it. A lot of third world countries have huge problems when it comes to women's education, right down to some of them simply not allowing women to be educated.

And a few years ago, when I had the honor of meeting Malala Yousafzai, who was shot in the head just for trying to go to school, this issue got really personal for me.

because right now, there are tens of millions of girls like Malala in every corner of the globe who are not in school -- girls who are so bright, hardworking and hungry to learn.

Sounds like a legitimate issue to me. Is not about women in Western countries...
