80% or more never go to trial, and instead end in plea deals. The reasons are obvious. They use the huge mental and physical harshness of going through a trial, being arrested, locked up, etc, and even lying to the defense, as police often do during interrogations, in order to coerce a plea deal.

Courts would come to a standstill if everyone stopped taking pleas. Far less innocent people would falsely confess if everyone stopped taking pleas.

If you simply admit your guilt, you will serve less time.

Sounds pretty shady, since the alternative of being found guilty is a LOT more prison time, which I believe in cruel and unusual punishment in most cases, because it is basically the end of your life.

The growth of laws in order to be able to apply 60+ counts to people, the pushing for defendants to take plea deals to lessen their time in prison, all seem designed to coerce confessions for better conviction rates over actual justice. The threat of large prison time has become a tool of coercion for the state.

if he is truly innocent, everyone in this sub should be funding simply 1 dollar to his defense. We need to stop letting innocent people take falls and bad plea deals.

You guys ever notice how civics and the court and police system are conspicuously absent from schooling these days?

Thank you for the update, it's really great to hear that you've taken that step and that your attorney has a similar view of the case to the one we all share. I wish you both the best of luck, I hope the prosecution's case quickly collapses like the house of cards it is.

I'm not surprised, there's a precedent that's been set now thanks to their idiocy, once you guys go to court they're done. You'll either be able to sue them for thousands or they'll give you thousands as hush money as an out of court settlement.

This is crazy. If they don't need any evidence then why do we have courts? You should file a sexual harassment case against the public defender or his son.

I have not been able to read through all of the advice given you so far but my advice would be to set in motion a civil case to reclaim expenses from the accuser as soon as you can. Clearly you need to discuss this with your lawyer first because it may be inappropriate to do so until criminal court proceedings start, or are abandoned. Sometimes merely letting the information out that you will be seeking civil recompense is enough to make a false accuser back off. While from a political standpoint I would like to see every false accuser perjure herself, it is obviously cheaper for you that she backs off sooner rather than later as I doubt she has the funds to repay much of your expense.
