Good thing, the issue is getting mainstream.

Funny comment:

Y'all know that many of the aims of feminism is to confront a lot of these societal norms that lead to these men's issues, right?

Yeah. Aims of feminism. Hasn't done jack shite for men's issues in over 4 decades, but it's an aim, right.

[–]samsc2 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No no no. See all the guys problems end when we make every single claim of rape an instant jail term, of refusing to allow those evil DNA tests on babies for child support, and of course removing all rights men have. That way everything will be better because men won't even be able to complain or face forced removal of testcicles.

[+]soalone34 -12 points-11 points-10 points 9 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

The definition of feminism is and his been for centuries, making both genders equal by fighting for the rights of women. Seriously, expecting them to advocate for men is ridiculous.

[–]Siganid 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So now that women are clearly advantaged why does it still exist?

[–]soalone34 -3 points-2 points-1 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Why are you asking me?

[+][deleted] 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]soalone34 -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How am I trying to push that?

[–]BDMR_lurker 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

First, modern Western feminism doesn't qualify for centuries (plural) yet, and probably never will, as the society it abuses will topple long before the 22nd century.

Second, define 'equal'. Equal rights is a moral goal. Equal outcome is stupid.

Third, balance is not achieved on one side. That's the sound of one hand clapping.

And finally, you're advocating a 'us vs them' mindset. If feminism is war, it must be ended.

[–]soalone34 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I'm not advocating anything, I just told you the actual definition of feminism. I never said I agreed with it.

[–]BDMR_lurker 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The definition of feminism does not exist. Even among feminists.

Shifting goalposts and no true Scotsman.

Current feminists are not 'fighting' anyway, they're whining.

[–]soalone34 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

the definition of feminism does not exist

Pick up a dictionary some time

no true Scotsman

Is not the case here, I simply told you what the definition of feminism is. I never said radical feminists aren't feminists, etc. you're projected.

current feminists are not fighting

They are "fighting", just because you disagree with them doesn't mean they're complacent. Billions of dollars are spent on feminist programs across the world. Fighting isn't even really the point of the definition, it can be replaced with the belief of or advocacy of.

[–]BDMR_lurker 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Pick up a dictionary some time

Now there's your problem. Pick up 3 dictionaries sometimes.

Also, dictionaries are not normative. But it's not my role to educate you. Thankfully.

And you're invalidating the experience of every self-defining feminism, you patriarchal shitelord.

They are "fighting"

Please do give me the definition of 'fighting'.

just because you disagree with them doesn't mean they're complacent.

No, they're complacent for many reasons not relevant to me.

Billions of dollars are spent on feminist programs across the world

Passive form, no subject, no feminist action, not even their money.

Fighting isn't even really the point of the definition, it can be replaced with the belief of or advocacy of.

But you've just given me the definition. Dictionaries (or singular in your case) are not fluid.

Or are they? Shifting goalposts, no true Scotsman.

[–]soalone34 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Now there's your problem. Pick up 3 dictionaries sometimes.

Okay? They all say the same thing.

Please do give me the definition of 'fighting'.

Stop playing around with semantics, it's really getting pathetic. Look, I gave you the actual definition of feminism, it's a simple fact that's what it is.

No, they're complacent for many reasons not relevant to me.

I don't care, I gave you the definition of feminism. Why are you denying it?

Passive form, no subject, no feminist action, not even their money.

How is this relevant?

But you've just given me the definition. Dictionaries (or singular in your case) are not fluid.

Haha. Oh man, you're seriously saying the definition is wrong? That's like someone saying reverse racism is impossible and the actual definition of racism is wrong.

Or are they? Shifting goalposts, no true Scotsman.

What are you even talking about? How is no true Scotsman relevant? I never said that someone who claims to be a feminist isn't. I just gave you the clear definition of the word.

[–]BDMR_lurker 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Now there's your problem. Pick up 3 dictionaries sometimes.

Okay? They all say the same thing.

Merriam Webster:

the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities

Oxford:

The advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.

That's only two, and they're already different. How unlucky am I.

You probably picked the same one 3 times. Poor thing you.

.

I don't care, I gave you the definition of feminism.

That's the point.

You fail appeal to authority with your dictionaries and your inability to even read correctly.

You fail to have any intelectual authority with your inability to build a tautological argument.

You don't get to give me a definition.

[–]chambertlo 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

No, that is not what feminism is, currently. Far from it.

[–]soalone34 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That's literally the definition, look it up.

[–]corpseflower 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah. And the dictionary mission of the police is to "defend and serve".

[–]soalone34 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually no that's not the definition. And even if it was, what's your point?

[–]Vance87 20 points21 points22 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think it's great that 'Masculinism' started as a parody intended to show how crazy feminists sound, and then feminists totally proved that point by going crazy and belligerently attacking any and all forms of it.

[–]feedmecarrots 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I like the idea of anything that makes feminists go crazy. The world should see them as crazy.

[–]Tedesche 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I told a friend of mine who is against MR that it's a progressive movement. He balked. History is going to prove me right. It's already starting to.

[–]dontpet 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Cool. We're a progressive movement. I personally cringe at the thought but can see it being true from your friends perspective.

[–]Tedesche 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Uhm...I'm not sure you read my comment correctly. I was saying men's rights is a progressive movement. He considers it regressive—a movement that is trying to retard/reverse social progress on gender rights as a whole. He has a completely cliched and inaccurate view of it. By "progressive" I mean that it is trying to advance society and make people more equal by introducing/championing new ideas and concepts.

[–]dontpet 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I think I did read you correctly. For me progressive can mean what you said but it can also mean a tribal collective mentality, with white males being the other tribe.

Think of the progressive principal from South park.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's PC (Political Correctness) principal.

[–]dontpet 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Thanks.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No problem! ;D

[–]Tedesche 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think the word has gotten a bad reputation of sorts these days, because it's been used so much by people who the tribal attitudes you describe. Basically, to them, progressive still means what I said, but also to them, anything that is against straight, cis, white men is progressive, and anything that goes against any other demographic is regressive.

My friend views the men's rights as regressive, so he may actually be seeing it from the tribal perspective you describe. When you said you could see "it" being true from my friend's perspective, that confused me a little, because it sounds like you think he views MR as progressive, when he doesn't.

You sound fat. LOL.

[–]profpoopybutt 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's a shame that even if public opinion seems to be leaning away from feminism, that it will be quite some time before anybody attempts to fix these issues

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So long as people see men as brutes and women as damsels in distress nothing is going to happen whatever the facts say. Feminism is based on this biology and that's why it's not going to go anywhere anytime soon.

This is He-Man

Now admittedly, the people who created He-Man did the same thing to He-Man's female equivalent, She-Ra.

did the same thing to He-Man's female equivalent, She-Ra.

Whom nobody remembers (although obviously, you do), compared to Barbie.
