During the first half of the Olympics, according to a study by three college professors, 58.5% of the NBC’s prime-time telecasts were devoted to women, the most ever, and why not?

”It’s just smart programming,’’ said Andy Billings, a sports media professor at the University of Alabama and one of the study’s authors. “Because we have such a progressive culture, we have a lot of the greatest women athletes in the world.”

LOL why don't you wait for the ratings for male vs female events before you say that.

Female american olympians are going to out-perform male american olympians for the foreseeable future for 2 main reasons.

The United States provides more support for its female athletes than any other country in the world. The support advantage that american women have over women in many other countries is so large its that its basically not fair. The feminists and Title-IX worshippers love nothing more than to cry about the supposed horrible state of female athletes here in the U.S., but the bottom line is that American women are so friggin dominant in international sporting events (olympics, women's world cup, etc) because the United States is more supportive of female athletes than literally anywhere else on Earth.
The clear majority of the top american male athletes end up in football, basketball, or baseball, because there is so much more money to be made in those sports than there are in olympic sports. Its the same thing with soccer here in the U.S. MLS doesn't pay anywhere near as much as the NFL, NBA, or MLB do. If elite athletes had as much opportunity to make money participating in olympic sports as they do the major team sports here in the U.S., then the american men would be dominating the olympics just as much as the american women do, and probably even more.

My co workers have been watching the Olympics during breaks. Women's diving, women's running, women's beach volleyball, men's shotput, women's synchronized swimming, basketball.

The reason women are getting so much more coverage? People like looking at attractive, scantily clad women.

Much easier to medal for women because there is just much less competition, in a lot of countries women barely play sports. Because of this and the fact that you are only the best of half the population (and not everybody like when a men gets a medal) means women's medals have less value.

The key takeaway from the article for me was that 58.5% of NBC's primetime coverage is of womens sports. A great refutation next time someone tries to tell you their coverage has been sexist.
