Woman sentenced to probation for stabbing husband to death

A rural DeForest woman will spend 10 years on probation for the stabbing death of her husband.

Irina Kolenkina, 55, was charged with first degree intentional homicide and domestic abuse in the June 13, 2015, stabbing death of her husband, Vladimir Schevchuk.

Online court records show Kolenkina pleaded guilty in June to second degree reckless homicide, with a charge modifier of domestic abuse.

A judge stayed a seven-year prison sentence and seven years of extended supervision in favor of probation.

Kolenkina's attorneys said her immigration status is unclear, which will affect whether or not she is released from jail in the immediate future. Immigration officials could seek to keep Kolenkina in custody until deporting her if it's determined she's in the country illegally.

According to the criminal complaint, Kolenkina told police she and Schevchuk had been arguing all day while running errands and preparing dinner. Schevchuk sharpened a knife to prepare dinner, which Kolenkina eventually used to stab him, the complaint said.

The complaint said Kolenkina told police she killed Schevchuk "professionally," just like she butchered meat when she lived in Russia.

Goddamn. Seven years for second degree murder, suspended.
