You certainly have a "right" to not be a victim of violent crime. Any person with a shred of intelligence understands that is not a "guarantee"...so taking steps to minimize your exposure to crime is common sense, not "victim blaming".

This insistence that women should be immune to violent crime regardless of their exposure to it is not just baffling, it's anti-intellectual...it requires a willful and deliberate aversion to logic.

It's hard to imagine columnist Lauren Evans telling her own teenge daughter "get as drunk as you want, pass out in strange places, walk alone through high crime neighborhoods...you have a right to do it". No, she's going to tell her own daughter EXACTLY what the column she claims to be horrified by said.

You've almost got to admire how well they distorted the narrative. We're all taught from the time we're very young to be careful who we trust and not put ourselves in dangerous situations, but apparently that all goes out the window if you're a woman.

Awful people do awful things and always will. You teach people not to get blackout drunk just as you teach them not to take payday loans, lock their doors and don't believe for a second that guy is actually a Nigerian prince.

Welcome to 2016, where stating reasonable advice based on statistical facts is problematic.

Because surely no sane, politically engaged (columnist, woman, human) in 2016 thinks those things anymore, right? Right? ...Right?

Ah, the famous "it's the current year" excuse. A very strong concluding argument indeed. It's like, if we rewound time back a few hundred years, it would become perfectly fine to buy slaves, hate blacks, and kill gays. Because it's 1820. /s

It's weird when people say that "people should be able to live their lives" as an excuse for getting black-out drunk. Do you know what happens when someone gets black-out drunk? Somebody has to help them get home, or even help them stay alive. What about the person who has to carry the drunk home. Should he/she be able to live his/her life instead of having to carry some liability home?

Why do irresponsible people get to live their lives however they want, but the responsible people cannot live their own lives because they have to pick up the slack and protect the people of questionable intelligence?

I've never heard one well-known feminist discourage underage drinking. Shocker.

How about this? What if a man is perfectly controlled when he's sober, but flies into a rage and beats random feminists up when he's drunk? Should he control his alcohol? Surely feminists won't object him to drink because everyone should be able to "live their lives", right?

And all these women who complain about their man getting drunk, they should take a chill pill because we're all about fun, and complaining against drinking is just anti-fun right?

You know what I think? I think that feminists just want women to have no responsibility at all. No matter what the woman does, she cannot be blamed for anything. That means that the only other people left to blame are men, or other women who even suggest that women have the capacity to take responsibility.

It's always made to sound as though men prey on drunk girls. Like these girls are passed out and men attack. In reality, we all know, women turn into gigantic whores when they drink, and then regret their actions later. This isn't rape.

[–]Mens-Advocate 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Maybe not whores but rather less inhibited. In other words some women will always feel ashamed so they need an excuse for being sexual so they tell themselves the drink made me do it. That's better than their saying the guy made me do it (false accusation), but it would really be healthier if they worked out their sex/shame/drink hangups in therapy.

[–]K1NTOUN 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Who are we kidding? Chicks get drunk and suddenly all their inhibitions are out the window. Girls gone wild anyone? Those aren't unique cases. It's just the way they are. Maybe they don't all want to perform for the camera, but they definitely want someone to play with.

[–]Spoonwood 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Those two are not mutually exclusive. Both probably happen. I'm not saying that they happen at the same rate, just both happen.

Yup, this is /r/MensRights.

[–]K1NTOUN 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

Sorry is whores too vulgar? Okay, how about, "women who engage in promiscuous sexual intercourse." Oh wait, that's just the literal definition of whore.

[–]AmazingMarv -5 points-4 points-3 points 10 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

What's wrong with promiscuous sexual intercourse? Are you just upset its not with you?

[–]K1NTOUN 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Read the thread maybe? The problem is they don't make the decisions in a sober mindset and hence regret the actions which leads to claims of rape. Thanks for taking an interest in my sex life though.

[–]AmazingMarv -5 points-4 points-3 points 10 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

No problem. I'm sure you were pleased that somebody finally took an interest.

[–]K1NTOUN 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

If only you were as interested in the topic as you are other men's sex lives.

[–]ABC_Florida -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

I don't get it what's your problem? Why are they whore for drinking? Alcohol reduces inhibition, that's all. If I text my boss after a Saturday night: "You suck ass!", I can blame it on alcohol all day long, nobody is gonna give a shit. Your problem is not with alcohol, your problem is people giving a shit, when she consented and regretted later. I don't get it why attack /u/AmazingMarv for criticizing your shaming of drunk women.

[–]K1NTOUN 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I think what's wrong is the negative connotation of whore. Men are all whores. I'm a whore. Women, in their day to day lives, despise whores. This is why I say they turn into whores, because they do, and because it contradicts the image they like to portray in their day to day lives. If women were more sexually liberated, they would understand that it's no big deal to fool around. Instead, they are taught it is terrible, so women who do drink, and do become inhibited, and do whore around, regret it once back in their sober mind. If they truly understood it doesn't matter, these rape cases would plummet. But feminists tell women how much their sex is worth and try and convince them it's all they have to negotiate with and therefore they feel violated. Like something precious has been taken from them. When of course that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

[–]ABC_Florida 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Don't reinvent words, like other people do with equality. A whore is someone who sells her/his body for money.

Women, in their day to day lives, despise whores.

And I wonder why AmazingMarv took it as an offense. /S

They're sluts for losing control of themselves then later claiming to be victims and blaming men for their poor choices they now regret.

Nope. They are scumbags for doing so. Not sluts.

Shaming is a valid social control mechanism that is not outwardly oppressive and violates no ones basic human rights, because no one has the right to be understood and accepted when their behavior is not conducive to social cohesion and basic morally-accepted standards of the community she participates in.

Little amendment: it works for women far better, than for men. So feel free shooting yourself in the feet.

[–]Mens-Advocate 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't understand. I have a human right to shout Allah stinks from a Tehran rooftop but wouldn't, to stay alive. Why would anyone think mutually exclusive both caution by potential victims and punishment of violent perpetrators? Why not do both?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Exactly. Like why is rape the one crime where taking reasonable steps to keep yourself safe becomes some kind of "apology" for the crime?

[–]Paul-milana 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because it would mean that females would have to moderate their behaviour while in the company of men.

Your title sums it up well. The woman achieved a level of intellectual honesty and clarity that the tools at Jezebel never will.
