Like most of the MRAs on this subreddit, fear of stigma keeps me silent. I'm looking for help figuring out how I, and others like me, can stop hiding in our foxholes.
According to the media, MRAs are rape-loving monsters, and the public believes it because they don't know any better. We could change this perception, if more of us found graceful ways to voice our opinions publicly.
I would love to hear from others how they have made the leap to public advocacy. If you haven't, what is stopping you? If you have, how would you suggest that others who don't feel comfortable doing so press ahead?
The best gateway I can see is advocacy for boys. Concerns about men get shouted down with familiar shaming techniques. But anyone who dismisses boys issues opens themselves up to effective counter-attacks--most everyone agrees that all children deserve empathy and care.
Personally, I would like to find articles I can post on Facebook about boys' issues. More broadly, I would like to see our community cultivate a list of such articles, and even for the mods to take on the role of identifying important ones and encouraging community members to share them.
Feminists use social media to indoctrinate and build fear of dissenting, which they have done so effectively that most members of this community hide their true beliefs. Advocating for boys provides a way to avoid feminist battle lines and attack from the side. The true MRM heroes will still be the ones brave enough to be more controversial, but by openly advocating for boys the rest of us can help the cause by (1) bringing attention to important issues boys face, (2) disrupting the feminist monopoly on narrative, and (3) chipping away at the wall of stoicism that forbids empathy for males. Not be perfect, but it's a whole lot better than dithering around anonymously on this subreddit.
Thoughts, anyone?
