The group was shut down because it had been infiltrated by a mole who was sending screencaps to the outside world.

The shutdown was stated to be to protect the privacy of the members, whose comments were not intended to be shared outside the invitation-only group. Not because toxic opinions about men were exposed.

Copied their names and statements so that a) there is one more source on the Internet quoting them, in case someone googles them. Maybe even in a few years, when some of them regret what they said. The Internet doesn't forget. And in case b) the news site is forced to anonymize the whole article.

is this real life? Is this what we've succumb to as people? Let them live in their bubble.... no one burst it for them. Life will walk right up one day. One of my favorite quote from any movie/book "forever whining about how bitterly unfair your lives have been, well maybe it has escaped your notice but life isn't fair" after I saw this scene in HP I realised that if I wanted to become anything or even if I just wanted people's respect that it was entirely up to me to command that or don't.

Honestly, I don't have the slightest problem with any part of this other than the newspaper exposing it. This is not a club sanctioned by a university, this is a private facebook group that was not intended for anyone else to see. These people were saying this stuff, but it's not like they were saying it directly to the subjects.

We all know that we all say stuff in private about other people that we don't want them to hear. I don't agree with what these people were saying, but I'm more annoyed by this invasion of their privacy.
