Ghomeshi accuser a hypocrit

I'm amazed to see the Toronto Sun advocate for trashing due process and our long-established adversarial court system. I'd expect that from the Star, but the Sun?!

What I noticed was that Ghomeshi's apology never mentioned anything in particular that he was apologizing for (despite being a truly grovelling apology otherwise).

Then his accuser immediately goes on TV to say that he was apologizing for the crimes he was accused of, but for which she and/or the government apparently thinks it's not worth actually taking to trial. Why? If he's a criminal, shouldn't they want him to be in prison? What about other women?

So this was again all about hurting the guy.

I'm amazed that the settlement apparently didn't include a restriction on what she could say. I would have immediately said she violated the settlement, and head back to court.

she had at times been, “incredibly inappropriate, foul-mouthed and sexual” at the CBC. So what? None of that is relevant to how Ghomeshi treated Borel...

How is this irrelevant? If she was inappropriate and sexual then he was just reciprocating. Typical it's ok for a woman but not a man if you ask me.

I find it puzzling the Crown agreed to settle the case in this way, as there was reportedly an eye witness to the alleged assault.

In other words, it was so egregious, that someone else was around to see it, simply made note of it, then waited a bunch of years to bring it up.

And a slap on the wrist he got.

After that, there were the uninvited back massages at my desk to which it was clear I couldn’t say no, during which my host’s hands would slide down just a little too close to the tops of my breasts. A year into my time on the job, he grabbed my rear end and claimed he couldn’t control himself because of my skirt. Occasionally my host would stand in the doorway of his office when no one was around and slowly undo his shirt by two or three buttons while staring at me, grinning. He once grabbed my waist from behind – in front of our fellow colleague, at the office – and proceeded to repeatedly thrust his crotch into my backside. There was emotional abuse, too: gaslighting and psychological games that undermined my intelligence, security and sense of self. Sometimes that hit harder than the physical trespassing.

In 2010, I went to my union to try and find a way to end this pattern of sexual harassment by Jian Ghomeshi. I had no intention to sue, or to get him fired, or even to have him reprimanded. I just needed him to stop. The union representative and my executive producer at Q, the radio show for which we worked, did nothing.

In retrospect, I’m one of the lucky ones. Ghomeshi never tried to sexually assault or beat me in the three years I worked with him on Q.

OK. So why is everyone in the press saying otherwise?

Why the discordance? Maybe, because you thought it was hilarious at the time? Hard to say.

But last week, Toronto police charged him with four counts of sexual assault and one count of choking a woman. So far, anonymously and in the press, 15 women have made allegations against Ghomeshi of violent physical abuse.

"He made it clear that he could humiliate me repeatedly and walk away with impunity," Borel said, noting there were at least three documented incidents of physical touching.

"This includes the one charge he just apologized for, when he came up behind me while I was standing by my desk, put his hands on my hips, and rammed his pelvis against my backside over and over, simulating sexual intercourse."

They settled the case because they wanted to spare feminists the embarrassment of finding out that their troubles were worth all of a couple weeks in prison at most, nothing more.

Oh, the numbers of women who could see the inside of a jail cell for having laid hands on me as well..
