As I've been pointing out for years you can literally butcher boys and men in their hundreds or thousands and the world won't give a toss.

[–]Alkomb 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So true, that just hurt.:\

[–]xNOM 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Which would be fine, if at least men retained some respect for it as they did in the past. Die in a coalmine today? Noone gives a toss.

Dead women and children are tragic victims. Dead men are a statistic.

[–]RfrankieR 28 points29 points30 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The dead women & children alongwith the female relatives of those dead men are the real victims. Come on man it's 2016 afterall. /s

Women are the primary victims of war

[–]Fjurg_Van_Der_Ploeg 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That was the moment I found a deep hatred for Hillary. That comment alone was enough to make me realize she's a total fuckwit who I wouldn't want anywhere near the oval office.

Same

[–]Tmomp 15 points16 points17 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wonder what it's like for society to want to save and protect me in case of war or danger instead of wanting to send me to die and try to kill others.

What an amazing feeling that must be. I guess I had it when I was a baby, but I don't remember and I still knew society planned to prepare me for dying and killing.

[–]bk15dcx 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dead men cause no sensation.

[–]Vance87 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For bonus troll points, the one man who is somewhat humanized in that picture is the fucking head of ISIS.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I can kinda get that they're trying to emphasize that these are murdered civilians, not soldiers, but surely you could say that in those words.

[–]Archibald_Andino 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Great point. Dead civilians seem to be more tragic vs dead combat soldiers, fair enough. However a dead female civilian is not any more tragic than a dead male civilian and a dead female soldier is not anymore tragic than the death of a male combat soldier. The media gets this wrong constantly. Just another in a long, long list of privileged treatment.

[–]Greg_W_Allan 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Correcting this...

The media gets this wrong constantly.

The media gets this wrong deliberately.

[–]LokisDawn 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Eh, I wouldn't call it deliberately. I don't think most people realise this internal bias, it's just "how it is". Newspapers writing "200 dead, 50 women and children" don't have some kind of nebulous plan of some sort, it's just naturally ingrained traits.

I'm not saying that's better, or good at all, just saying deliberately kinda misses the point. There is no enemy we have to fight, what we're fighting against, IMO, is misinformation and misandry.

[–]Greg_W_Allan 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Some corpses sell more copy than others and media organisations know this very well.

[–]Azothlike 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Women and children can also be soldiers, in third world wars.

So, it doesn't accomplish that emphasis at all.

[–]geniice 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In syria the only women soldiers are in kurdish areas which are a long way from Palmyra and a few SAA units which I seem to recall were deployed in the Latakia region (not heard much about them of late) again well clear of Palmyra. ISIS doesn't use women soldiers and and while they have been training child soldiers I'm not sure to what extent they have been deployed.

[–]dominotw 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think its meant to highlight that people were killed in cold blood not in combat between groups( of men).

[–]redditorriot 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow, that is fucking disgusting.

[–]DingoDamp 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's funny, I thought of this just earlier today because of another news article I stumbled upon.

Why is it that a massacre, an accident, disaster i.e. is automatically worse if there are women and children among the victims? Seriously, WHY?!?

I have never, ever heard a man (or an organisation of men) complain about this and claiming it to make it seem like men are worth less. But imagine it the other way around... with women being the "oh well...." victims. Shit storm would rise!

[–]electricalnoise -3 points-2 points-1 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure this headline is that terrible, to be honest. Hear me out. In any conflict, it's just expected that the majority of casualties are going to be men. It goes without saying. That they killed women and children who are by nature much less of a physical threat instead of just taking them, really sends a powerful message. I get it, and I'm not so sure this example is necessarily an MR issue or truly biased/discriminatory.

[–]wanked_in_space 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

The fact you view all men as a threat 'really sends a powerful message'.

[–]electricalnoise -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

You're in reading it wrong. It's not that we're a threat in general, it's that an invading force has no use for the men of the place they're invading. All they would be is a higher threat than the women, who they would typically rape/kidnap/etc. If someone invaded your country, you wouldn't pose some kind of threat to them? I sure as fuck would.

[–]Greg_W_Allan 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The typical genocide consists of exterminating the males and colonising or enslaving the females.

[–]electricalnoise 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

That's what I'm getting at, and there's good reason for it. You certainly don't keep anyone alive who might be powerful enough to fight back in any substantial way. It's no more discriminatory than keeping the women alive for sex slaves or whatever. It's just natural given our roles as different sexes.

[–]Greg_W_Allan 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That's what I'm getting at, and there's good reason for it.

However there is NO justification for institutions and media to ignore or detract attention from it.

[–]electricalnoise 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Because they didn't explicitly say the word "men"? Don't we have bigger battles to fight? Who else would the dead women and children be among? I agree it's important to recognize the dead men, but the point of the article isn't the dead people, it's to show the nature of the people we're fighting. Whereas men have been killed and women spared for sex/slaves since the dawn of time, these crazy fucks are just killing everyone. It's pointing out that clearly their motivations are not what we're used to seeing in these situations. The point of the article is to really push the perspective that Isis is not a typical genocidal cult. They don't want your women or your children, they want your entire bloodline to end.

Honestly this sub sounds more like a mirror image of r/feminism every day. What happened to the rational people that used to be here?

[–]Greg_W_Allan -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The reality of this world is that hundreds or thousands of boys and men can be butchered and cunts like you think it's business as usual. Fuck off.

fuck off.

Well please feel free to go suck a cock yourself, as well.
