So long as men are given the same opportunity for breaks every month, I don't see a problem with it. I suspect it'd make the company in question less competitive overall. but if so that's something the market will sort out.

This is how it is in taiwan. The women I know that live there hardly ever use it for period purposes. When they have to run errands, they say they have their period that month and then just deal with it like every other working woman on the planet when they actually have it.

I think they should have them come in on the weekend to make it up. I mean that would make sense. I understand some women have it worst than others. But many it doesn't even affect.

From the comments, this truly isn't leave. The employees are expected to make up the time over the rest of the month, so it's a form of flex time.

With that in mind, it's a great idea ... as long as they make it available to anyone that has a recurring event they would prefer to offset by working longer on other days. Periods are hardly the only scheduled or predictable events people could potentially want to use this for. Do a twice monthly physio appointment that has you sore? Kid's seeing a psychologist a few days a month and you need to be there to take him/her? Senior care for your ailing grandmother? There's all sorts of stuff this would work for, so it really shouldn't be limited by gender or for a specific purpose.

Either this has nothing to do with periods and more about flexible working (which will have to be implemented for everyone, because thats the law in the UK).

Or this is a self sabotaging effort by feminists, which will inevitably hurt women more when employers are given yet another reason (they already have childbirth) to avoid hiring women because they will need even more special considerations.

They're not taking more days off people. They're just taking different days off to coincide with their periods. In effect it's saying you can suffer on your own time, but at work you'll need to be productive.

So how's this going to work ? They're getting paid for not being at work but while they're gone somebody else is doing their job ? Am I to understand that the men not only have to take on their jobs while they're not at work but won't be compensated for it in any way ?

I'd love to say I was surprised but of course I'm not. I've never known a woman who couldn't just work through it as every woman has been doing since our species evolved but I'm not female so what do I know ? I know some women (a very small minority) get it really bad but then a doctor's note should be pretty easy to procure, shouldn't it ?
