They do understand, they just don't care.

Tell her that in the UK that the fastest growing rate of violence in both relationships and in general is committed by females. Not men. Ask why she is not as vocal or forthright about that. Or why it isnt the subject of her lectures.

[–]Aaod 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Or why it isn't the subject of her lectures.

Because men have the social power and patriarchal power as the dominant group so they should be the ones addressing it is what her response would be. Can't believe I was forced to pay hundreds of dollars to listen to that sort of bullcrap due to it being a mandatory class. She was a good teacher and usually willing to listen to my arguments, but indoctrination is still indoctrination especially when it uses discredited statistics.

[–]Lethn 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wouldn't have attended the classes and if they tried to make me go or threaten me sue them for wasting my fucking time and getting in the way of my education and correct the absolutely flawed statistics and blatant propaganda they're using.

[–]xNOM 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well you have to understand the childlike mentality. They shit their pants whenever things get worse for vagina owners. What happens to men is irrelevant in this case. It never crosses their mind that this is exactly what happens sometimes when women are starting to lose an old privilege.

And of course nothing but "Tory, tory, tory" from the predictable guardian commenters, oh how I fucking hate my country, left wing supporters absolutely love blaming the conservatives for absolutely everything the same way Christians love blaming homosexuality for natural disasters.

I'm pretty sure most of the country ended up voting in the Conservatives out of spite towards these assholes more than anything else.

I think that Trump is going to be the US's next president. Hillary will cheat herself to the democratic nomination, people will be angry, and people will vote for trump. Unless they rig the main election and give it to hillary anyway though.

[–]ITS_JUST_2015_BRO 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Honestly, there has been a huge media slander campaign against him. He is good guy.

People say he is racist / sexist /anti-immigration. He isn't. He got 44% of the Hispanic vote in Texas. His anti illegal immigration policies will raise of the wages of the poor. He is pro-immigration: you just need to do it legally from now on.

He isnt sexist. He has had women in senior executive positions way before it was trendy to do so, and in a very masculine industry of construction.

Watch some of his speeches with an open mind if you havent already

[–]BookOfGQuan 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't mistake my personal belief that some of his attitudes and policies are dangerous and irrational for my being some sort of slave to popular media. Nor do I deny there's been what amounts to a distasteful slander campaign. But not believing that he's the devil doesn't translate to thinking he'd be great in power. The enemy of my enemy is not my friend.

Well done for bringing this to attention. The treatment of men and bias to women in media is absolutely shocking right now. It is therefore important it is documenter for future reference and brought to attention. Good job.

it just lends credence to the disposable male mentality. females are protected and sheltered, and its socially acceptable to be a do nothing failure, where as it is not ok for men to be this way, so society discards them.

it shouldnt be tho. the world shouldn't just think 'we can throw him away because he failed'. a person should always be judged on their achievements, i agree, but male disposability is not ok. i was disposed of at 15 and it is the worst feeling you can ever have. its why the male suicide rates are so astronomically high.

In a society of abundance like in the first world, we could support 80% of people on the resources of the 20% who have most, easily. Without making that 20% even close to poor. Greed prevents that. But noblesse oblige says it should not. We're not Ferengi.

[–]Revoran 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

At least we can all agree that there's a double standard there (men don't get support whilst women are "coddled"). Even if we disagree on what to do about it.

[–]AmazingAndy 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

your mother sounds like a cunt. i hope she still doesnt hold those views, but projecting it onto your pre teen son is beyond reprehensible.

[–]Vance87 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

They sought to point it out because people respond far more to women as victims, not men. When you discard one whole gender, of which make up the vast majority, you show your hand.

[–]Rethgil 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

Er, your own post stated at the outset that you admit that men are considered by society as 'disposable' and have been for a long time. Any argument you make after that point that men as a gender are not marginalised compared to women falls apart. Men are seen as disposable. Women as princesses. Now I'm no expert but there's a slight disparity there.

The solution isn't to prevent men from even potentially reaching that point, it's helping them more once they're at that point. It would also mean less stress, and less suicide.

Places with free healthcare do better than those with 'your private insurance or you can't have it looked at, let alone fixed' countries. Because people don't sweat bad luck diseases or ski accidents as something that could make them bankrupt, then. Unless there is no treatment or cure. Not because its labeled 'I got mine, screw you'.

[–]ichors 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

I didn't make myself disposable? I don't think any of the many minors, trawler men, steal mill workers etc. did either. So I'm not sure why you're acting as if the disposability of men is somehow their fault. I also don't see why this means that we can't pay attention to the issue and discuss how to possibly fight past it.

[–]ichors 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

This is just one aspect of disposability. Looking at it more broadly, it does not seem implausible that we can do something about the perceived disposability of men. For instance, women have done very well in entering the job market, is this not them overturning their perceived weakness?

I never said that it was cultural oppression?

[–]SchalaZeal01 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So all those other unstated percentages are marginalized as well? I contend the answer is "no".

If you add up UK, eastern and central Europe and Romania, it comes up to 97%. Only 3% left.
