Between 1.5% and 7.5% of men are estimated to be falsely accused of rape at some point during their lives (Note that those numbers include an estimate of accusations that never make it to the police.)

"Women want to be free from their gender roles, but they want men to be trapped in theirs - forever."

Basically, yes.

Because not placing ladies first is sexism, apparently.

They're both unfuckable failures. He's needy, nagging, and a failure at being a househusband. She only ever gives a shit about her problems, and wants to be a child for her entire life.

Thank God they married each other, so nobody else has to.

The best thing you can say about them is that they're honest. Other than that they're both self absorbed assholes.

Bang on. Beyond the baby/toddler stage, which can be legitimately awful when you've got multiple kids, it's just not hard to be a decent SAHP. Not perfect, not Donna Reed, but also not a frazzled mess who needs immediate help when the working spouse walks in the door. Simultaneously, if my husband can work American entrepreneurial hours and still take point on sports and backyard physics and algebra homework and Manly Movie Night (Daughters Also Welcome), a person working 40 hours a week in an office can get their shit together to engage in the requisite parenting and screwing required to maintain a happy household.

I hate the thought that smarter, better people might read this article and decide that switching roles in their marriage would be a tragedy.

What a couple of complete losers.

I think I could be a good house husband. I'm good with finances, I'm organized, and I'm not a bad cook either. Plus I could work out in the middle of the day when the gym is empty, and I can play video games all day if I wanted. Also, I would be able to research topics that I've always been interested in, like ancient mysteries and lost treasures. And porn. That's unrelated.

Where's my 6-digit income wife at??

[–]McFeely_Smackup 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Who needs a 6 digit income wife? Didn't you know that as a house husband you'd be doing a dozen different jobs and earning the equivalent of $118,000?

I mean you've got a problem finding someone to actually write you a check, but hey...you earned it!

[–]Vance87 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Damn, you're right. The patriarchy would owe me some serious cash.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

while the swap failed miserably for this couple, the lesson isn't that dudes shouldn't stay home, but rather that when the situation diverges significantly from what it was originally, everything goes to shit.

I'd love to stay at home. would play video games and watch porn all day.

I think it's time for women to work all day and for men to stay at home with the kids and prepare delicious sumptuous meals. This should be state-mandated if necessary. Men have been working themselves to death for thousands of years. It's about time that females did their fair share. We need to recruit females into all of the most dangerous occupations.

Edit: also, only women should be subjected to conscription. Females should fight our wars and we men should stay at home and chill. Why didn't the patriarchy think of this before me!?

You better believe I will be bringing this topic up at the next patriarchy meeting. These men are incompetent! I am firmly convinced that they have been subverted by feminists.

I was a SAHD for about a year and I arrived at a similar conclusion. After hearing so many women complain about how tough it is I couldn't figure out why. And I also don't understand how they never really get anything done.

When I was the SAH there was always a home cooked meal on the table for dinner, I took care of our daughter and managed to prep and paint the entire exterior of our house completely by myself.

Women are better suited to the modern workplace of following rules and putting numbers in spreadsheets. They thrive in these activities that men find soul crushing. And being raised primarily by dad is better for the kids. Our daughter is 15 now, doing well in school, nice friends and is the only one among her squad that hasn't been sexually active yet.

[–]Hedhunta 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Dude, no shit. I would get soooo much shit done at my house if I didn't have to work 40 hours a week. My wife doesn't do "nothing" all day but she gets maybe 1/4 of what I can get done when I don't have to work and it makes no sense to me....like what are you doing all day? Why does it take you so long to do things?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well I can tell you from my year off (that's how I refer to it since it's like early retirement), that as I was sometimes hanging out with the moms in the neighborhood, they all had a pretty explicitly stated philosophy that while the kids are in school, that's "me time" and many of them don't really start doing much housework until about 2pm.

If you go to the grocery store during weekdays you can see this played out. If you do your shopping any time before about 3:00, you'll see that the store is fairly empty and nearly all the patrons are retired seniors. But at 3:00, when the bus drops the kids off, the store is suddenly filled with SAHMs. Ironically, the people that emotionally blackmailed their husbands with "but don't you want someone to be home when they get home from school?" immediately clear out of the house and start errands when they do.

Like I would totally be okay with this if they had a hobby or something they were working on. I can understand wanting time to yourself to work on a fun project here or there.... but in my experience its like they did nothing all day so what were they doing? sleeping? watching tv?

Then I get yelled at for "not spending enough time" with my kid after working all day and then trying to put in a little hobby time of my own.

Super frustrating sometimes. I am not saying kids are a walk in the park but anytime I have had to be alone with my child on a day off while my wife goes off to hang out with her friends(Don't have a problem with this she lets me do whatever I want with my friends as well) I get sooooo much done especially if I get my kid involved in helping me do it.

I guess its just a difference in philosophy between men and women. Not sure there is anything wrong with that per se but it just drives me crazy sometimes how unproductive she can be.

I'm totally with you.

Let's do this!

I really cannot figure it out. Moved in with a woman that I had been dating for close to a year. I used to live on my own but we agreed to give it a try. She knew I worked freelance mainly web design and development and tended to work from home 90%of the time. Paid the same rent as on my own, which paid her mortgage and most bills. Cooked a meal everyday for her and her 2 kids. Baked, cleaned the house, did yard work that had been neglected. Thought everything was wonderful. After 2 months she pulls me aside and tells me that I need to move out since she does not want a house husband. Break up, move out and start on my own. 2 weeks later she wants to talk about "us", indicates she has been dating but really misses me and wants to try again since we are so compatible. Like a tool I figure okay what the heck. Now I pay for my own place, cook her meals at my place, babysit her kids when necessary and continue to do the odd yard work chores at her house and she is happy as pie. I really have no clue? Don't get me wrong I do what I do because I chose to and quite enjoy taking care of the family unit. Our relationship is great but that little experiment that failed makes me wonder where our relationship is headed and what am I expected to be?

[–]yummyluckycharms 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Let me help you out.....

The biggest proponents of gender roles - are you ready for it - women. You'll see this in dating norms, norms revolving around marriage, employment norms, and yes, even household chores. Studies have repeatedly shown that women lose interest in a male when they assume more female oriented tasks. Do you really think a guy would be opposed to women asking men out? Or women working 9-5 and them staying home to take care of the kids? Or women buying the man a ring? Nope - but it matters a hell of a lot to women.

On a secondary note, I'm glad that your relationship appears great, but I do wonder about it as it doesnt look great to me. It looks like she wants to have her cake and eat it too, and I think she's still dating other guys. I would bag it up.

[–]Secret555 -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for the advice. I agree with what you say whole heartily which makes it so difficult to navigate. One would assume that by being giving in so many ways that there would be no issues? Almost all her friends are divorced females who complain about men the same way. Lazy, bums, never did housework, too much video games and on and on. But when you try to go the opposite way it is no longer attractive?

As for our current relationship, I enjoy her company and that of the children. I look at it as a temporary gratification like most things in life. As for other men... I really care less. Let her find what she is looking for, I rather she be happy and around then being alone again. And that is the sad reality of it all.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

why are there so many tragically unflattering photos of that woman in the article?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The pictures are of the authors.

edit: I'm not being sarcastic when I say that before anyone thinks that, those really are pictures of them.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I get that, but one photo would have been enough...more than enough since it's unnecessary, but photo after unflattering photo just seems like they're trying to show how unattractive she is and how much weight she gained in the two years since the wedding photo
