Because a college tribunal is so much better prepared to handle criminal cases, right? Or is it just that the police will weigh all the evidence and review both sides before making a call, where the school has vested interest in keeping it out of the news, so they just cut the male and wah their hands?

Rape is frequently compared to murder. Some think its worse than murder, some think murder is worse. But we can all agree that it's at least comparable to murder.

Campus disciplinary committees where originally meant to deal with non-criminal policy violations. If a student cheated on an exam. You would want to give them some type of hearing. But it would be a waste of police resources to call the cops on a suspected cheater. Campus disciplinary committees were never meant to deal with felony crimes. I can't even think of any other felony level crime that a campus disciplinary committee would try to handle. It would be insane for a campus disciplinary committee to try to abjudicate over a murder. It's equally insane for them to abjudicate over sexual assault/rape. Hell, I can't even imagine a campus disciplinary committee adjudicating a minor felony such as grand larceny.

Unbelievable. Sanders is right. Colleges are not equipped to handle criminal matters where you need to set up an adversarial system where the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty and evidence must be presented according to the ROE.

When asked about it, Sanders called campus rape an "epidemic," and agreed that "public institutions" have a role to play in addressing sexual assault -- though the moderator asking the question did not explain what was meant by a "public institution." Sanders also agreed that affirmative consent -- that "only yes means yes" -- should be taught to high school and college students.

Isn't it a crime to not report a crime you know to have occurred? I feel like you could later charge the campus officials who oversaw the expulsion "trial" of a "rapist" with "Conspiracy to Commit Rape," since they know of a crime, a criminal perpetrator, and failed to report those things to the police. That because they do indeed think that individual raped another individual...that's like, in the top three most heinous crimes you can commit in our country.

And these people just choose to not report it? In my experience, the state doesn't give a shit if you want to press charges or not...the DA is usually more than happy to do it on your behalf.

I don't think Bernie pulled this out of his ass. There's a growing number of (mostly silent) advocates for due process. NOW leadership has to trout out this tired old all men are bad canard because their power is all wrapped up in it. Masculinity is making a comeback and with it a more positive view of men's rights. I see more women on dating sites begging for a man to take charge. The tide is turning.

Now that some colleges are forced to uphold affirmative consent standards, they are not handling the crime of rape.

They are handling cases that don't meet the legal definition of rape, only the feminist definition: cases that don't meet the affirmative consent standard or involve intoxication.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this. I guess I'm just pointing out that they could claim that.
