I don't know if he did it or he didn't do it.

Seems odd, that all these women would wait until after the Statute of Limitations has run out to accuse a very wealthy public figure of rape.

I'll be honest, I am watching the current hoopla fairly intently, now that he has been charged. If he did, he deserves what he gets. If he didn't, that as well.

To me, so far, it seems a lot like bandwagon jumping. Not Bill Cosby the rapist bandwagon, but intoxicated women are incapable of making a decision bandwagon jumping.

Victims took qualudes and boom. Rape.

Hate to see what is going to happen at pretty much any EDM party in 2016. Struggle Snuggle time everywhere.

The fact that most of these women waited decades to make their claim is the strongest part of Cosby's defense. I suppose it is possible to be roofied, and then the next day assume you had consensual sex that you don't remember, but unlikely. If Cosby did rape them, he deserves what he gets. But if he didn't a lot of these claims look suspiciously like bandwagoning. Either way I hope it sends a message to women to press charges when the crime occurred, and not wait 30 years then go to the press.

Was going to correct you and say I hope it sends a message to women and men to press charges, but then I remembered men aren't allowed to press charges.

[–]usku 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's just it. If Cosby is some sort of serial rapist, then all those women who chose not to act back then are just as culpable for those who were abused after them. I don't care how tough it is to go and face your perpetrator. This isn't about you feel.

If someone is raped, they need to do the right thing and press charges at the time it happened, else the perpetrator repeats themselves on others.

It's very simple. Press charges. Face the demon in its eye. Ensure no one else suffers.

This is the argument I like to make when victims' advocates say it is up to the accuser whether she wants to do nothing, or just report to the campus, or report to the police. I'm sorry, if you were actually raped, this person needs to be put behind bars so they can't do it again. If a woman is not willing to go to the police with her claim, baring some really bizarre circumstances, I am much less likely to believe that she was actually raped. It is more likely that she wants attention, or to get out of a test, or to give the guy a bad reputation.

Someone took a drug at a private party and didn't verify the chemical structure and dosage of the illicit drugs they took? In my career as drug user, I've never ever seen that happen before. Literally, no one has ever taken someone's word for what drugs they're taking. I'm not speaking for all the accusers, but this story is sort of stupid. If Barney the Dinosaur invited me over and offered me some pills because I was "stressed" my first thought would be along the lines of, "I'd better leave. He's trying to fuck me."

A man uses his power to obtain sex from a woman who uses her sex to obtain power. He feels he's gained but in reality is made vulnerable, and she feels cheap but in reality makes herself powerful.

Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme.

My overall problem with the Cosby Accusations stem mostly with the ones dated before the 80s.

Cosby didn't have the juice to get away with raping white women in the 60s and 70s. One false accusation from a white female model back then would have ended his life, not to mention his career. What would have happened with a genuine case? Shit...Cosby would still be in jail now, if he hadn't died in custody.

The Janice Dickinson accusation alone is questionable...she was a high profile model and if she had accused Cosby openly when it happened, Cosby would be in jail. Then we have the other woman who claimed that Cosby forced her to blow him during the Tonight Show when they were both guests...except that Cosby wasn't even a guest on the show when it allegedly happened...the only Black comedian on that night was Nipsey Russell.

This is going to end with either Cosby being totally ruined or the whole "rape culture" lobby shattered. I'm obviously hoping for the latter....

Bill Cosby sexually assaulted me.

No, he didn't.

I didn't tell because I didn't want to let black America down.

No. You didn't tell because it didn't happen.

[–]fosterco 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Why do you say that?

[–]chavelah 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Because there are moronic ideologues on both sides of this issue, who care nothing about the truth and are only interested in shoring up their existing worldview.

[–]fosterco 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Maybe. But we don't have enough information to say she's lying, do we?

[–]192873982 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think that is exactly what chavelah wanted to say. "moronic ideologues on both sides" means both the rape accusing women and Allevil669, because of his comment.

[–]chavelah 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, but it's not the women making accusations who bother me as much as all the people who reflexively believe/disbelieve each and every one of them. Personally, I think that some of them seem like liars/exaggerators and some seem very credible. Such shades of grey are lost on ideologues.

[–]currentAlias 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not Allevil but a common rule that some follow (myself included) is "Public rape accusations are always false." Is it (actually) true? No. Is it usually true? Yes, definitely often enough that it's a safe bet.

My guess would be that separate crimes are treated separately. In the bomb case, you know about a single bomb that will hurt/kill others. In the rape case, you know about a single rape that hurt only you. Whether or not the person then goes on to commit more rapes is an issue separate to yourself. Likewise, in the bomb case, you would only be held accountable for the bomb you know about, and not future bombs you did not know about. You cannot be held responsible for the unknown future actions of another person.

I've seen Bill Cosby on TV, and if you can be 'sexually assaulted' by him, then you should be more concerned about being assaulted by a squirrel or a mouse, because they're about as threatening.

[–]192873982 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He's an actor. Actors act. That means you have no information on how he is when he is not acting, or at least not based on what you saw on TV.

I'm not saying he is guilty, but saying he is innocent is just as stupid to say as "he is guilty", unless you have good evidence for your claim.
