Note there is a petition and campaign to stop this so don't hold your breath for a change. If feminism is put back in Mens rights should be included on the basis of equality.

Can someone please start a counter-petition to remove it? Even if we don't get the same number of signatures, it will show that there's significant support.

I'm fine with this provided we actually do discuss women leaders and such throughout history. You know, the kinds that existed before feminism and such. And after. Which we almost certainly will. Because feminism is not the totality of womens achievements (God forbid). But feminists don't seem to comprehend that and think that if you remove feminism from the curriculum, all women will disappear. This is because they are stupid.

[–]AtomicBLB 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But but... women have always been oppressed!! What do you mean women leaders before Feminism?!?!

I'm just kidding, I wish they would teach that. Along with all the female scientists and other high achievers that happened before Feminism.

Hurray! This is definitely a small victory, and will mean less brainwashing and pathologising of men. Onwards!

"The problem with erasing and writing women out of history is that we only get half the story."

No, by leaving Men's Activism and Men's Rights out, you are only getting half of the story.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with teaching feminism.

I was alive at a time when women dealt with metric tons of bullshit, and there really have been worthwhile contributions made by a couple of waves of feminism. If anything it needs to be CAREFULLY retooled to explain that women have equal rights and here's why, as opposed to the third waver "women are constantly oppressed" narrative.

I was alive at a time when women dealt with metric tons of bullshit

Didn't men also have to deal with metric tons of bullshit?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Of course, I'm just saying we've since addressed women's metric tons of bullshit.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The problem is that it poisons young female minds which is what the government wants to stop.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It doesn't have to. It can most certainly teach that at one time women needed a man's permission to do a bunch of things, they couldn't vote, etc. and that there was a necessary movement back in the day to fix these things.

[–]_Nces 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Feminist troll confirmed ;) ?

Most men couldn't vote either. And they got the added privilege of having to die in wars and death-trap workplaces.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Totally agreed. But let's not deny there wasn't a time that women had it rough.

We can of course also mention that whereas the first world has it great for women, the likes of Emma Watson whine about the third world, so any would-be feminists should take advantage of our offer to be airlifted with a one-way ticket to those places to lecture men there about how they should and shouldn't treat women.

[–]OpenPacket 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But saying that "women had it rough" implies that they had it rougher than men. And that implication is a lie.

It also denies the huge biological and social difference in men and women, most men would happily risk their lives at work or in battle, just as most women would happily risk their lives in childbirth. That was each genders' respective duty, and it transcends culture and tradition.

[–]Rethgil 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hmm, problem is it always leaves out the complex context of such times, eg, that women often physically beat husbands equally, that men laid down their lives for women and children in war, etc. All stories of negative female treatment MUST be explained in the context of things like this. Anything else merely preserves the unhealthy narrative that men are, or were, somehow inherently evil or bad. They weren't. They were simply doing the best they could in a very different set of circumstances to now.

[–]Niketi 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You can replace it with a module called "Women in Politics," sparing students from the ideological indoctrination.

Feminism is a corrupted ideology at its core. Patriarchy theory, toxic masculinity - all of these things are central tenants of the ideology which serve no useful purpose.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's absolutely nothing wrong with teaching feminism

Feminism is less about equality and more about manspreading, air coniditoning, a scientist wearing a shirt, taking a scientist's self-depreciating joke out of context, dongle jokes and reminding men they're the problem and should change.

Why should it be taught?

"I was alive at a time when women dealt with metric tons of bullshit"

Men also dealt with metric tons of bullshit.

"If anything it needs to be CAREFULLY retooled to explain that women have equal rights and here's why, as opposed to the third waver "women are constantly oppressed" narrative."

Yeah, good luck with that. You try and re-tool feminism. The people running it now would have you thrown into the slammer on a false rape charge faster than you can blink.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The issue to me is the "feminist reformation" doesn't seem to be coming any time soon. I can fully support a course on the history of feminism where there is a historical record to draw from, but teaching feminism the way of thinking doesn't seem proper in the context of academics, especially when there isn't a political viewpoint to compare against. Additionally, as /u/azazelcrowley said, removing feminism the political course does not mean removing feminism or women from history courses as is being claimed in the article.

Disgusting it is already there. No wonder British cunts do so well on their A levels.
