There were a lot of reasons I thought it was worthwhile to post this story. First of all, the fact that they thought it was appropriate for a 12 year old boy to "protect" a 35 year old woman is ridiculous. She's most likely stronger than him and all he could have done was gotten killed.

Second, I think this does a great job of showing how everyone just assumed she was the one who needed protection, and assumed the boy would be totally fine. No one considered that the boy could be in danger, or even remotely considered that he could be in danger from her and she could actually be a potential threat rather than just a victim.

Just another example of how societal biases that women are always victims and need protecting while men and boys can never be victims causes actual harm to men and boys.

On the plus side, she's actually being charged with rape. I didn't know women could be charged with rape in Australia. I looked it up and according to a site here, rape is defined as "sexual penetration without consent", where sexual penetration includes both penetrating someone else and being penetrated.

Huh??? Who cannot be named for legal reasons? In Australia people accused of rape are not named until they are found guilty? or is it /r/pussypass?

It is bad because men are statistically more likely to be injured or killed when walking home. So if they were worried about the woman's safety, they should have driven her home. Completely outrageous to put a 12 year old in the position of having to fight for a grown ups protection, he didn't even know the definition of rape.

When was the last time you saw the media print these kind of defence arguments for a man accused of rape?

It seems it is only when boys are raped and abused by women that all of a sudden the idea that someone can be tried on someone else's word alone becomes questionable and print-worthy.

The media basically advocates and encourages the rape of boys while simultaneously demonizing any man with allegations against them as rapists before they even get a day in court.

And the idea that a 35 year old man would be granted bail over the rape of a 12 year old girl is so laughable it's not funny. Disgusting.
