I was at that retreat, and was there for the full duration. No one paid my room and board but me. "Drunken" is hardly how I would characterize it, as I never saw anyone drunk. Relaxing and talking with a few friends and fellow activists, sitting on a few porch chairs in the middle of nature, high up in the mountains while some of us gather around a campfire and cook a few home-cooked meals, is a much more accurate way to characterize 95% of what happened.

The retreat was on a shoestring budget. I myself went in a carpool with three other people (that included Paul) in a 17-hour one-way drive to North Carolina from Texas so that four people could save transportation costs. We rotated who paid for gas. On the way there, we booked a hotel for one night because we were exhausted. Each of us paid for his own food when we stopped for food, and we even skipped a few meals to save on travel time and costs. On the way back, instead of booking the hotel for the night and making it a two-day trip back, we decided to drive the whole way back in a marathon drive that saved us hotel costs. Some of us arrived at our homes at 12:30 AM. I finally arrived back at my house at 2:30 AM, being the last person to drop everyone off.

Attila was not at that retreat, as anyone who attended can attest. Because of this, for him to pretend to understand the nature and the costs of the event is not proportionate to what he could possibly have known. Thus, for him to mention it as a kind of "gotcha" is simply out of touch with what people who are truly in the know actually know. People with sour grapes tend to grasp whatever straws they can, and it seems most likely that mentioning the retreat was simply a way to take advantage of the ignorance of others - likely fueled in part by his own lack of knowledge of the event itself.

It appears the accusations of financial misuse are - at least in part - a form of projection on the part of Attila. After comparing all the accounts, it is obvious that Attila was - after hosting numerous events - chasing donations that did not cover what he owed others for services that they had already performed upon his request. Reading between the lines of what Attila says, Attila himself does not deny this. Despite his good intentions, it appears he made several bad investments and executed poor strategic planning that left him upside down. Rather than discontinue this "business model," he continued along that trajectory, which put himself further upside down

It is a curious - and, I think, a telling point - that Paul, in his reply (which can be found here - http://www.avoiceformen.com/a-voice-for-men/attila-vinczer-leaves-the-mens-movement-atop-a-dumpster-float-in-a-parade-of-shame/) appears to be publicly speaking for numerous other people in the movement, including Dr. Martin Fiebert, Al Martin, Erin Pizzey, and numerous other high-profile figures who are widely respected. Paul's claim is that these people were not paid the money owed to them by Attila.

If Paul were so dishonest as to put words in the mouths of these high-profile advocates and Attila's claim is correct, they can all publicly call him to account. If such is the case, it begs the question as to why none of them appear to have done so.

No, we don't need to censor critics, but trolls who do nothing but shitpost shouldn't be welcome.

e. Ahhh, you've been a redditor for 5 minutes. That explains a lot. Reported.

Did he accuse you of pissing in your mommie's panties? Or did he just call you a crybaby coward? I swear, a psychologist could build an entire career on this guy.

[–]bavvon -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

There is no light because all the critical comments about Paul Elam have been CENSORED so we know you guys are full of shit and covering his ass.

Anyone who is actually telling the truth has no need to censor their critics.

[–]RedditorJemi 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The people Paul publicly spoke for on that page are not obligated to post on AVoiceForMen.com if they are concerned about censorship. They could post on their blogs or on the blogs of friends and word would get out very quickly.

The amount of damage such an eventuality would do to AVFM would likely be enough to kill it, and ruin Paul - so I really doubt that Paul would make such statements lightly. Unless of course what you mean by censorship is that Paul controls the entire interwebs. Is that the claim you're making?

[–]Louksee -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Are you a complete moron or just completely blind to the fact that many posts critical of Paul Elam have been removed from this thread?

[–]Herelam 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

Cool. There are a lot of people here on r/MensRights that are more concerned with bashing Paul Elam than they are doing actual activism. I'm this close to not coming back here to Reddit (other than to read r/KotakuInAction).

[–]EvilPundit 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

I don't think that this subreddit will turn into an exclusive forum for this particular fight. I'm giving each side one post per day, maximum (my timezone).

[–]Herelam 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

Well I'm kinda disillusioned with the entire MRM right about now. There's this slapfight going on between Elam and Attila (which Elam is winning but that's beside the point) and people are bitching at Armoured Skeptic and Shoe0nHead right now, which kinda bothers me a lot more. I say more hate should be directed towards Julia "Brave The World" Tourianski than to Shoe0nHead.

Also, we gotta get back to real activism.

[–]EvilPundit 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Ignore the faction fights and devote your energy to activism instead.

It's not compulsory to have an opinion on every drama. Find or create an opportunity for activism and go for it!

[–]Herelam 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

I might as well. I've recently came to the conclusion that my destiny in life is to save the MRM and kill feminism and MGTOW.

[–]matthew_lane 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Were as I've come to conclusion that you haven't been taking your "anti delusions of grandeur" medication.

[–]Herelam 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Well many people in the manosphere aren't doing it right so i say that if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I wouldn't say that Elam is "winning". He just made Atilla look bad on the recent youtube video release.

But Elam looks like shit overall. Be honest man.

[–]Herelam 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Still obsessed with wanting to destroy Elam huh? I can't say I'm surprised.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Holding him accountable. Something you don't like to do obviously.

[–]Herelam 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]RedditorJemi 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Bravo on this point. Especially since shoe has already apologized.

[–]Herelam 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She did. I was able to see the point expressed by Nick Reading when DoctorRandomerCam made his video, though I tried to remain neutral.

Nice one Jonathan.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

Thanks. They say nothing beats experience. Well, hopefully my experience at the event will help clarify a few things.

[–]ee4m[🍰] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

There are far too many mras that have internalized the feminists demonizing of Paul, in my opinion.

[–]matthew_lane -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

LOL no, there are a whole heap of people who got sick of Paul attempting to turn the MRM into a feminism style grievance industry, with money going into his pocket.

That's why the relevancy of AVFM has dropped since Elam pulled the "even married men can be MGTOW" nonsense, where Elam started selling what was essentially a self help, life style, pop psych version of MGTOW.

It was at that point that many people started seeing Paul as nothing more than another snake oil selling huckster & AVFM nothing more than a social club for nepotism & cronyism.

Heck that's why I dropped AVFM as a news source: Because it no longer represented the people & it was no longer staffed by our best & brightest.

Edit: Shortened for brevity.

[–]Imnotmrabut -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It's interesting that each reinvention of AVfM is designed to expand Elam's supposed knowledge and intellect on the issue of MHR. He never has anything original to say - he just co-opts and parasatizes others ideas and thinking.

The most telling is his adversity to any Activism that does not place him centrally and in wide angle. It's telling that the drunken video show from recent banality does not ask OTHERS for their views, experiences or knowledge on camera... and I bet that over the next few months Ideas expressed, experiences recounted and knowledge imparted will appear via diverse forms on AVfM or the adoration and reification of Poobah Elam.

I know that one thing Elam hates is being caught out using others ideas and trying to pass them off as his own.

This recent development is interesting as it has two hallmarks. Elam has set out to create a reaction in public from another, and is then using that reaction is proof that he's always under attack. That's pure Serial Bully, and it fits his modus operandi to a tee. He can use it over and over and point to it to distract from the reality behind closed doors. It's an old trick that only works on some of the people all of the time - the rest, once they see it can't be tricked again. Elam's days of tuning tricks are numbered.

What's so telling about it? And who should he be asking?

Nice prediction, but I don't think it matters. This is far from damning.

It was a fucking two minute drunken video that Paul used simply to give ammunition to critics and thereby drive people to AVFM. It has nothing to do with creating an image of himself as a victim. Your interpretation is ridiculous.

[–]Karissa36[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You don't seriously believe that Paul Elam has to create ammunition for critics, do you?

[–]RedditorJemi 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes I do. As has been discussed here previously, AVFM's ratings were slipping.

[–]Karissa36[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So instead of producing better content he decides to act like a drunken obnoxious moron? Wow.

Well as an MHRA I have not internalised anything, including Elam's abusive ways including attacking people on grounds of disability, as he has done to me.

It's funny how Elam will praise a person's ability when he can parasitize it and use the person. But, as soon as that ability and insight is focused upon Elam he attacks and abuses. It's a telling pattern that one finds all too often in the "Serial Bully".

[–]ee4m[🍰] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I have my own issues with avfm.

I would have preferred to see much more support and commenting there from the large numbers here, I think that would prevented the group thinking and financial problems.

I still wouldn't want to see it crash and burn.

[–]Imnotmrabut -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I can't agree - AVfM is profoundly damaged because Elam Cultivates Group Think. He keeps the "volunteers" captive by keeping them busy, unable to think and analyse and through coercion based upon the sacred mission of AVfM led by Poo-Bah Elam. It's the basic pattern of Cultic Manipulation.

It is interesting to note that Elam has experience of "Working"(sic) with those who have histories of abuse, manipulation and coercion. He is fully aware of the risks that such history have, and yet he does not safeguard against people falling into known traps - he baits the traps. He then hides it all behind a smoke screen of agency, self-determination and bravado.

Toxic is a word I use sparingly, but Elam makes The New Horizons look like a Kiddies paddling pool.

In so many ways, this is true. As I analyse, deconstruct and quantify Elam's behaviours over years of observation, It is disturbing to see the patterns that are deeply entrenched.

I was willing to accept Elam's claims of bluster for effect until earlier this year when he really showed his nature and abusive ways that are kept hidden from public view. I go where the evidence takes me and Elam has simply convicted himself.

He makes David Miscavage of Scientology look reasonable in his conduct.

"Drunken" is hardly how I would characterize it, as I never saw anyone drunk.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfimcqjWHIQ&feature=youtu.be

So you guys did this video while sober? Cause it is kind of unusual to display that much poor judgment while sober. My apologies. I over-estimated AVFM.

It does seem that Attila made poor financial decisions. This just shows more strongly why AVFM should have financial transparency.

[–]TheDude41 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

What's the big deal?

I see feminists saying shitty things all the time.

Usually they have blue hair, more piercings, and show a lot more skin.

But really, what's the difference?

[–]TheDude41 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

What's the big deal? Feminists say and do offensive things all the time.

What do you expect from MRAs? Gentlemen? No thanks.

In contrast to the events below, the AVFM guys were at their own private venue, doing little more than speaking their own minds amongst one another. Comparatively banal behavior, if you ask me.

I wasn't in the video, although I was in the room. People had drinks, but no one was drunk/wasted. It also bears mention that emotions cloud peoples' minds as much as drink. My experience at the event tells me that this is just a case of boys being boys. Another factor in play, I think, was that this was the night before everyone would leave, incurring many to think a display of fun was in order to see everyone off, so to speak.

On a related note, I chose not to be in the video because I thought the title and tagline of the beverage were rather boorish, but not because the others were drunk.

[–]TheDude41 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago* (26 children) | Copy Link

That article was fairly much fact-free.

Paul Elam has done a lot of fantastic things for the MRM. Even if he had paid himself I don't think I'd change my opinion of him.

It's sad to see MRAs squabble over an amount of money that is less than an academic feminist or feminist lawyer farts or coughs on a given day.

Really a sad state of affairs financially for MRAs, and it's sad to see it hold people back.

[–]Karissa36[S] -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

An academic feminist or feminist lawyer will have at least 7 years of college and post-grad education. Elam has a 4 year degree in psychology, which in the U.S. is not well paid at all. In fact, he left that field to be a truck driver. That was his occupation for most of his life before AVFM got big enough to support him.

[–]TheDude41 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

The hundreds of millions of dollars, perhaps billions, that feminists funnel out the federal government and other sources into the hands of their cronies is certainly enough to support more than a few feminists lawyers or others degrees specializing in made up terminology.

There is not enough out there for men even to support one psychologist come truck driver.

Hence, the squabbling. It makes me sad. I try not to hold it against them, but others will.

[–]Karissa36[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

There is not enough out there for men even to support one psychologist come truck driver.

If Elam has another job that he is supporting himself with besides AVFM, that's news to the rest of us! What is it?

I never suggested there was, or wasn't.

Meanwhile, why don't you contact these people to see if they will open their books and provide a full accounting of where their money goes?

When you contact them.... tell them you're just hoping to dig through their finances to find what goods you can on them and see what their response is.

It's curious the level of gallantry that's expected of a person or an organization just because it's comprised of people who happen to have dicks.

$2.8 million in gross revenue and executive compensation of only $248,000. That's the kind of information that people want to know when you are asking for donations. So does Paul Elam take more than 8.6 percent of AVFM's gross revenue as salary?

[–]TheDude41 -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago* (18 children) | Copy Link

Well, you have a bit of a point here.

I guess the underlying distinction, is that AVFM probably is not a 501(c) nonprofit like NOW. NOW PAC probably has some financial filings too. Possibly AVFM is more like a standard corporate entity as for perhaps Jezebel. You'd be more familiar than I am, whether or not this allows AVFM to engage in a broader range of activities online and offline. Probably smart.

If I were Elam, and he hasn't done so already, I might inquire if it's legally possible to set up a side organization, structured as a non-profit transparent organization and adhering to reporting requirements of a non-profit, that can be used as a vehicle for setting up conferences and events only. He might not be required to have the non-profit separate organization accept organizations directly, in which case donations may continue to flow through AVFM, to help support it. I don't know much about it. Maybe you could help him out with that.

I don't know the legal details, but my guess is that, for a publication, being a 501(c) is a perilous proposition, because, for example, then any comment by made any contributor that could be construed as political, may subject the organization to legal scrutiny. And a organization such as AVFM certainly wants its columnists to be free to criticize politicians in a basically unfettered manner.

Of course, assuming that AVFM isn't structured as a non-profit, which I don't think it would be.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

That is the point. Elam doesn't appear to want to be transparent with his finances.

Karissa makes a very good point. What percentage of the gross revenue does Elam use for his "personal" reasons?

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_GAY_DICKS 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago* (12 children) | Copy Link

  1. I have never personally borrowed money from the CEO of AVFM save $300.00 one time which was repaid in short order.

This is a lie. Proof. We may not all agree with Paul Elam's actions and words, but this is a blatant lie. I don't trust Attila as far as I could throw him.

Which activist with limited means provided any money to my benefit? How many destitute activists have you taken money from, Paul?

This is also a lie, unless I'm mistaken (and please correct me if I am). Proof. The activist's name was Tim Viers Tanveer (e. now, I'm not sure if this is an entity or a person, but that's what was posted in the transcript).

[–]Karissa36[S] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I don't think the first one was a lie. More like weasel words. What he meant was that he only borrowed $300. for his personal use. Most of this fall out seems to be over expenses for his Men's DV Conference, which he apparently expected AVFM to help pay for. I have no idea if Tim Viers has limited means or what he donated money for. Again, weasel words.

It's pretty clear that Attilla is not a saint. It's also pretty clear that money donated on both sides of the border to both organizations is floating around very casually. There is no frigging way that Paul Elam spent $30,000. on security for the 2014 conference. Or that you use donations to fly someone in from the UK for a drunken vacation retreat.

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_GAY_DICKS 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Attila is acting out of anger right now and he's more than likely trying to do as much damage to AVFM as he can. Paul may be not spilling everything, but I trust him quite a bit more than Attila. He (Paul) seems to be more misrepresenting the truth than outright fabricating things.

The account leaving those comments was sending people to Manhood Academy. The language in the comments suggested it was MA posting under yet another brand new account.

MA has been banned from this subreddit for constant spamming and abuse of other commenters. He shows up quite frequently with new accounts but the same old rhetoric and accusations.

I would suggest you go to MA and see if there's anything to this "evidence". I could post you screenshots of a 45 email long conversation I had with this person, who then took to stalking my accounts here and elsewhere, posting defamatory accusations and abusive tirades for months.

In other words, no one's trying to cover for Paul Elam here. They're deleting the comments of someone who's been banned. Repeatedly.

The deleted comments were also by a user with the handle "PaulElamEXPOSED". Make of that what you will.

I'm neither denying or coming out in support that he's honest, especially to someone as obviously biased as you.

You have a reddit account called "PaulElamEXPOSED" , you're biased. Even though I'm a hard core anti-feminist, I wouldn't listen to someone who has an account called "Feminism Exposed" as it's just clearly a biased source.

Not the point. When someone focuses their entire energy down on something, they are biased.

It strikes me that lessons to learn from this are for all parties to be more businesslike in their dealings, and perhaps to either go for smaller gatherings or raise all the money first and have a dedicated account for expenses.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I agree. We are an underdog movement. Our opponents, having several advantages, receive by the bucket help that we receive by the spoonful. We must learn to live within our means by careful measurement and planning, and to make every dollar we have go a very long way.

Agreed. That begins with financial transparency when you are soliciting donations from the public. Elam's refusal to do so makes AVFM look like a cult.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The lack of transparency makes AVFM look terrible.

Without transparency, donating to AVFM doesn't make any sense.

All the critical comments about Paul Elam have been CENSORED so we know he's full of shit and the MRA leaders are covering his ass.

Anyone who is actually telling the truth has no need to censor their critics.

It behaves like a cult, and that has nothing to do with finance.

The average wages for a non profit ceo are 120k.

Elam should make money and be able to take breaks from his very stressful position.

Funny how most mra's guard their reputation from attack and mra anon. while not understanding what Elam risks by making himself the lightening rod for the mrm.

And on top of that, there seems to be no shortage of mra's wanting to put the boot in too.

[–]Karissa36[S] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

AVFM is not a non-profit. Non-profits have to register themselves and abide by strict accounting rules which include financial transparency. They also to be successful have to generally accomplish something besides running a blog and doing some YouTube videos.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I think this deserves some clarification. AVFM is not a non-profit, which would usually make them a 501(c)3 organization. Instead, they are an LLC - a Limited Liability Company. Technically speaking, they are a company, not a non-profit.

[–]ee4m[🍰] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Right, its not a non profit.

He still deserves wages and breaks.

The average feminist ceo gets 120k

[–]Imnotmrabut 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

"The average feminist ceo gets 120k"? Interesting claim - do you have any source and or citation for that claim.

It has the air of simply having pulled out of someone's butt.

[–]ee4m[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

An american friend who runs a non profit told me 120k is the typical rate for her position.

[–]Imnotmrabut 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I asked for citation or source, not your friends Butt.

[–]ee4m[🍰] -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Its not her butt.

Its her industry.

You don't think all these professional feminists are doing it for nothing.

[–]Imnotmrabut 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Again you fail to grasp that there is a profound difference between bald opinion and verified evidence.

[–]ee4m[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No, I know the difference.

Ask Erin Pizzy about the sort of wages that are being paid to the top people in DV shelters and so on.

VAWA is 1.25 billion, a lot of those costs are wages .

[–]Imnotmrabut 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I see so now you shift from Feminist to DV Shelter. I also know a great deal on the subject of funding, managing organisations, running charities and more.

I'm still waiting for the citation to a course that gives your use of the word "Average" any validity other than opinion dressed up as fact.

The brevity enforced by Twitter may excuse the delay, but here those limits of communication simply don't apply. P¬)

Does anyone not see this coming. Whether elam is a nut, or gathers nuts to him, it's all the same. Unprofessional and embarrassing.

People doing actual research need to stick with it and outlast people offering nothing but demagoguery and hype. Who remembers them a few years after they're done? They flaunt the hype as if it has value in itself. Things of value don't need hype to be worthy. Guys like elam do more damage than attention is worth.

[–]mikesteane 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

General advice in life: look at how people treat third parties. If they are rude, dishonest or whatever with them, that is the treatment you will almost certainly get when you are no longer on the same bus. Furthermore, associating with rude, aggressive etc people, or criminals for that matter, tends to get your reputation tarred with the same brush.

[–]Imnotmrabut 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

So the great Poo-bah Elam is being exposed. I was wondering who would be the person who said no more and who was ethical. My Admiration for Atilla V grows. He's a gentlemen and ethical, a combination that Elam simple can't hold a candle to.

As I said, less than a month ago;

Elam parasitises others ideas and abilities, which is why the whole of AVfM is reactionary. Elam can only react after he has a new contributor to suck upon - he has to control them and can't have them controlling content that he lacks capacity to deal with.

It would appear that Elam is to soon lose the opportunity to suck others dry, and that the Cult of Elam collapses all about him. Given his antisocial personality it will not affect him emotionally, just make him worried about the lack of others to suck dry.

I have seen this all over the net. I was going to join AVFM but it seems AVFM does not treat members or volunteers very well.

Does anybody know who at AVFM publish a letter this Atilla dude wrote? Why would Paul Elam accuse Atilla of beating his kids then say he has no knowledge of such a thing? Has Paul Elam ever shown the public how he spent money donated to him? What was he doing in Italy if his pockets are full of dust? Is Paul Elam the leader of the MRM pack and who put him in charge? Does Paul Elam record everybody and make it public? That is not very nice.

So far it looks to me Atilla Vinczer is open while Paul Elam is a bully who hides how he spends donations. I am not sure I will join AVFM. So far they look like really nasty people especially this Paul Elam guy. Can't even figure out what this guy is doing for men.
