Women seem to have more rights than men. What are we doing to change this?

The future looks bright, but don't expect some kind of revolution to happen overnight that will grant men all the rights that women already have.

For example, a number of birth control methods are set to be more widely available in the near future, such as a clean-sheets pill and vasalgel. On the other hand, it might take several more decades for ectogenesis to be possible (artificial wombs), i.e. giving men the right to choose parenthood if the mother of the child doesn't want to become a parent.

Start calling out the double standards, hold women to account, make official complaints where appropriate. Literally what men need to do is stand up for ourselves, yeah we're going to get backlash for it but it needs to happen here there and everywhere

One can't force humanity to overcome its own instincts. But we can give them the tools and the means to do so. Spread the truth. Speak up, even if people flip out. The truth is on our side and ultimately will prevail. So we can't make people be less sexist, but we can put them in a situation where they at least have to admit that it's sexism instead of what they're doing now which is pretending they're fighting sexism.

Don't get married, don't be alone with a woman, ever. Go your own way, work in a male-dominated field and have nothing but transactional interactions with women.

I dunno. I've thought a lot about this, but it's tricky. Campaigning and building awareness tends to meet staunch resistance from opposition groups. Maybe too much for campaigning to be valuable at this time.

The issues that are nearest to my attention are child custody, demonizing men, and legal inequities. These all seem bound together by community values.

I got an eye full of the domestic relations court in my state. It is a profoundly unfair and biased system >as it is applied<. The laws themselves aren't as much of an issue as how much power the individual parts of the system are given, and how biased those parts are.

I got to see the internals of a criminal court proceeding two years later, as my ex got charged with multiple felonies. Once again, the bias was naked, not because of the law, but because of the constrains the community places on the prosecutors office. My ex ended up getting a plea deal that was much (much) more generous than a man would have received. Because the prosecutor understood that if they set the bar too high, a jury of her peers would have flinched at inflicting it on a woman.

The unwritten bias in both cases was that women are less capable of doing harm and less interested in doing harm. My ex is mentally disturbed, she used that assumption to get away with horrendous things.

Really, it's the assumption that is causing the problem at this point. People in this sub complain when "pussy-pass" cases are brought up, but I think it's very important that the public see the inequities and have their assumptions challenged.

Women don't have more rights than men. Both in a semantic and a philosophical sense, this is true.

In a semantic sense, women couldn't have more rights than men, because rights aren't granted to us by the government, they're inherent in us being human beings. You can say that one or the other group is oppressed, as in not having their rights respected by society, but when a government silences someone, they don't remove their freedom of speech, they oppress it. That one lacks the ability does not mean one lacks the right.

But that's a semantics argument, and I get what you're trying to say, that women have a position of greater privilege than men in society. I think that in order to make this claim you have to make the same "objective" assessments which have led to the same problematic notions of privilege in society as those made by they who are inflicting gender oppression on men. For instance, some people say that being subject to the draft is a privilege, because it connotates a social expectation of greater capability. Others find that a social expectation of greater capability is a yoke, not a boost. In this way, privilege is quite subjective to each person. Each person regards each instance of privilege in their own way, and one feminist's trash is another MRA's lifestyle of choice. Granted, there are issues of privilege, such as with manifestations of class privilege, which are more monolithically positive; very few people think being able to buy a Lambo is a curse, and if they do, their opinion might be worth ignoring. But with gender privilege, everything is much more vague and personal.

When I first came across the MRM, I was really hoping that it wouldn't go down this path, mirroring everything I saw wrong in feminism in a "monkey-see-monkey-do" fashion. But posts like this disturb me, because I see in this kind of sentiment the very same self-centeredness which allowed so many feminists to claim such false objectivity in their assessments of privilege. We need to be above that.

It doesn't matter if women are more or less oppressed than men. That is irrelevant. What is important is that both genders, in various ways, face oppression, and that oppression has varying effects for various people. We've made equality the goal so much that we've lost sight of anything but the scales, and when you see those scales as they hang in comparison to all the other scales of privilege, racial, class, gender identity, education level, religion, it becomes quite apparent that in our predisposition to make sure the other gender doesn't get more than us, we're both allowing our side of the scale to be weighted on so many other axes of privilege.
