Straight women tend to quietly hate gay men, and regard them from a standpoint of alienation. I have seen this happening.

[–]berger77 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They can't control or get anything from you. Once they realize you're not going to put up with the usual b.s. or give them things, they are gone. I am mostly asexual and that has been my experience.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Straight women also regularly sexually assault us at gay bars.

[–]pnw_diver 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have seen this myself. I live in a gay districr,

[–]TheDude41 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Straight women tend to quietly hate gay men...

They do hate gay men, but only those gay men who do not maintain a deferential chivalrous attitude towards women, or kowtow to the entitled social norms that pedestalize women. They love a gay man who will prostrate themselves and open doors before females, treat them according to special consideration to which they feel entitled, but they will quietly resent gay men who treat women in no special manner.

Which is odd, since there is no reason why a gay man should treat a woman in any special manner.

[–]Azothlike 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Hate? I disagree.

Straight and bisexual women view gay and bisexual men with condescension, not hate, IMO. They're a cute novelty, a curious but altogether insufficient, insignificant and inferior person, who's good for occasional fashion and shopping advice or talk about penises, but doesn't really have any value as a human being outside of that. Not all straight/bi women, of course. But certainly the majority. You really learn how women are taught to interact with men(through a lens of expectant social superiority/advantage), and how so many women don't know how to interact with one when they're not interacting from a position of social advantage.

That has, at the least, been my personal observations and experiences. Straight and bisexual women treat non-straight men like you would treat somebody else's dog.

Perhaps gay women support and respect them a little more, but in the statistics of things, this proves to be pretty insignificant, as bisexual women outnumber gay women 5 to 1, and straight women outnumber gay women 94 to 1.

[–]blueoak9 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Straight and bisexual women view gay and bisexual men with condescension, not hate, IMO.

The effects are hateful.

[–]Azothlike 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hate is an intention, not an effect. You can't accidentally hate something, but you can accidentally cause something negative to happen to it, etc.

[–]gatorademebitches -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (33 children) | Copy Link

And straight men don't? In my experience women are much less 'hurr durr stop shoving yer sexuality in my face' when 2 dudes act like a normal couple but are a bit more token-ish in regards to their friendships sometimes. Women are also a lot less homophobic than men; like, 15% less women self identify as such (not got a study on hand though)

[–]blueoak9 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Women are also a lot less homophobic than men; like, 15% less women self identify as such "

Homophobes generally don't identify as homophobes, so that little point isn't very convincing. Is it?

In my actual experience, unlike your gynocentric theorizing, women can be quite toxically homophobic. Some of them take "no' with very little grace.

[–]alXing 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

The bottom line is that gay men have no real friends except each other. And even then, finding a decent gay man is like finding a needle in a dumpster.

[–]ruffykunn 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Bi guy here, I really love my local community of gay and bi men (we basically have a weekly meetup of gay/bi men and I love spending time with those guys inside and outside of that meetup) -- none of whom ever had a problem with me being bi.

What I'm saying is: bi guys got your back, so just don't, like, forget us? :)

As to your last point, loads of at least decent guys at said meeup -- then again I haven't been part of the gay community for that long and the meeup skewers pretty young (mostly twentysomethings).

[–]alXing 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Any gay meetup that is outwardly welcoming to bi guys is already a step above of the norm.

Most gay men would tell you that bisexuality don't real and bi men are just half-way out of the closet. Some will even harass you and try to convince you/whoever is present that you are a liar about your own sexuality.

Like you said, you haven't been a part of the community for long... But you will find out.

[–]ruffykunn 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Firstly, I'm sorry you've experienced that :(.

I'm in Germany, honestly not sure if bi-phobia is less present among queer people here. Anyway, the meetup is part of this city's queer organisation who also do meetups for lesbian/bi women, trans people, asexual people, poly people etc.

At first everyone assumed me to be gay, but whenever I told an tell them I'm bi everyone in that organisation has been accepting :). The same holds true for people outside I interact with (I'm not out to everyone however).

I've found bi-invisibility to be the bigger problem than bi-phobia in the people I interact with. And imho it's the bigger problem in society at large. Harder to overcome than bi-phobia.

That and not enough of a support network among bi people, be that on the local, state, national or international level.

There should be way more bi people coming to our queer organisation just by sheer numbers, but they either don't dare to or are not aware of their own bisexuality or our organisation is not reaching out enough to them (or, all three of those).

Sometimes the order of the letters LGBT pisses me off.

Honestly, TBGL would be more appropriate in the order of how much those groups are currently in need of help and coming together globally.

[–]alXing 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not bi so I haven't experienced it personally, but I have seen that bi denial and bi erasure are the norm within gay male communities in America. Here, straight men are more likely to be accepting of your sexuality than gay men.

[–]gatorademebitches 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Relationships are harder if that's what you mean but it sounds like you're saying we're all shitty?..

[–]alXing 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

I'm saying that it can be difficult to find a gay man who hasn't been infected with the most toxic kind of feminism. And no, I'm not just referring to intimate relationships. Gay men are shitty friends in general because they tend to be underhanded and calculating like the women that they learned from.

[–]gatorademebitches 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (14 children) | Copy Link

I am sorry that you have been through experiences that have led to such a belief but im not surprised a mra subreddit upvoted a comment about how gay men are manipulative, shitty friends - as-well as women being the embodiment of such attributes lmao. and this sub says they're for all men not just straight dudes yet only uses sexual minorities to whine about feminism and overly-'gay' gays. idk what you want from us and the draw to feminism may say more about movements like mensrights than gay ppl

[–]alXing 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (13 children) | Copy Link

You're kinda proving my point by turning into a hysterical feminist who generalizes a movement just because one gay man said something that you object to and 2 people upvoted me. I can tell from your post that you're one of those easily triggered, flighty queens that I try to avoid in real life.

[–]gatorademebitches 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Nah there was a +14 comment saying something similar and the sub often does the 'we're not about gay guys just men in general, that's why we don't talk about it' thing. Feminist theory has some good ideas about how homophobia negatively affects straight dudes too and also offers ideas on why not heterosexual dudes may reject masculinity bla bla. Pretty sure this sub should be supportive of those who chose to break gender roles if it is what it says it is but instead gay guys learn to be manipulative and shitty from the women who loom over them. Apparently such a statement will get 'u must be a triggered effeminate queen' though as if I cant defend those of whom I am not really associated with or those who break gender roles too much. There are some nice guys out there man, go meet them.

[–]blueoak9 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Feminist theory has some good ideas about how homophobia negatively affects straight dudes too and also offers ideas on why not heterosexual dudes may reject masculinity bla bla.

Those are just icing on the shit cake of feminist theory that considers male homosexuality a misogynist of women's (inherently good and noble) sexual power over men. This is the same body of theory that refuses to accept the reality of misandry and refuses to see it as the root of homophobia.

[–]gatorademebitches 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

male homosexuality a misogynist of women

huh?

The problem with gays that rebel against gender roles is that a lot of them end up getting sucked into ballroom culture, which specifically encourages being catty, shady and generally unpleasant. I like genuinely feminine guys but most gay fems seem to only want to embody the most negative parts of femininity. Masculine gays are hardly better as they, too, often become fucked up caricatures of masculinity in trying to prove how not-feminine they are. I stand by my original statement.

[–]gatorademebitches 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

lets assume everything you said it true (it isn't); it would not be inherent and instead would be created from their social surroundings and treatment by others, in which case the most logical solution is to support such groups rather than moan about how they are all shitty people.

edit: I mean the irony is just really making me happy.

That irony is all in your own head. Your made-up quote is a lie about this subreddit. You are lying when you say this subreddit is about white men only, because you have no way of knowing how many men of color are subbed here, so it's a lie to make such an assertion. You are lying when you say it is about cis men only. You are lying when you say it is about straight men only. if you can't even see that this very thread refutes that lie, then you are hopeless.

The fact that you cherry two threads out of thousands and quote one person's remark shows how thin your argument is. You would see similar remarks over at r/ainbow. And of course we all know how homophobic that place is, amirite?

"let's not even talk about the misogyny in this thread."

Count your belessings that I don't. Misogyny? That's the same old man-hating cunt homophobia we get from Shulamith Firestone on down, that men owe women sex and relationships and gay men are being misogynist when we "deny" them that. It's a rape culture, pure and simple. Yeah, you really don't want to talk about "misogyny" in this thread.

[–]gatorademebitches -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

this thread is ridiculous. The comment about gay dudes sucking a bit because they learn to be manipulative because they idolize women effeminate is fucking hilariously sexist and homophobic and yet it's here, being upvoted by a mens 'equality' group. do a search for 'gay' and see them talk about how the sub is for everyone but they don't discuss gay dudes much because its about men in general. Then, go see the posts about sexbots, 'divorce rape' and things that only affect heterosexual (and bisexual but that's never mentioned) men. This is why intersectional feminism seems to work well; it cares about everyone. Maybe mens rights movements could learn a bit, but they don't actually care

[–]blueoak9 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

fucking hilariously sexist and homophobic and yet it's here

Hey pussy beggar, why don't you let us gay men be the judges of what is homophobic, m'kay?

[–]gatorademebitches 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

or all of us could and i'm not exactly after pussy myself

[–]blueoak9 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And straight men don't?

Hello! They are in on it together.

[–]TheRavenousRabbit 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I knew that a lot of feminist scholars had a lot of male homophobia but what in all living hell. As a gay guy myself I have to say, this only further cemented my position as an anti-feminist.

Feminists, I'm not your shield. Thank you very much.

[–]RandyDanderson 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Is "woman hating" as common among homosexual men as man-hating is among lesbians? Just something I wondered while watching Milo Yiannopoulos.

[–]alXing 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Understandably, it seems you've never been around many gay-dominated communities, online or otherwise.

The answer is no. Women are more commonly worshipped as deities and role models in the gay community. Titles like "Goddess" and "Queen" are used as prefixes when discussing celebrity women or just any woman that they deem sufficiently sassy and glamorous. Men, when they're not attractive and mostly naked, are considered to be sub-standard and second class.

It's another way that self-hate manifests among gay men. They hate themselves for being gay but they also hate themselves for being male. I DO understand why this is the case, but it is what it is.

I shouldn't need to say that, of course, this doesn't apply to all gay men... There are those like me who are seriously put off of the whole thing and "go our own way" so to speak, but that's the culture.

[–]blueoak9 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Most problematic of all, is the tendency for gay men to unashamedly celebrate and enjoy their male sexuality without adequate feminist supervision, or the need to acquire signed and witnessed declarations of enthusiastic consent."

They hate this about us gay men most of all, because [dysfunctional] straight women's main source of power is the ability to attract and hold a man's sexual interest. It is the basis of their sense of being beautiful and of their self-worth. That's toxic femininity and there is a lot of it going around.

These women think they own men's sexuality and are entitled to unimpeded access to it. It is an actual rape culture.
