This man is a monster and he should feel bad.

Your child is going to grow up feeling hated and unwanted. You can justify it all you want but the truth is you're giving your daughter more money because you care about her more. Because you love her more. Stop lying to yourself.

I feel really bad for this kid who is going to have to grow up wondering why his parents don't love him as much as his sister.

He also hates himself and this is likely to be projected onto his son.

I don't think the dad loves the daughter more, many parents honestly believe certain things that are widely believed and thinks what they're doing is in the best interest of their children. Parents generally treat boys and girls differently because of this. This is just really obvious and financial.

You don't think this kid is going to struggle his whole life with wondering why his parents love his sister more than they love him?

Maybe when he's an adult he'll understand the reasoning. But to a 10 year old saying "I'm going to give your sister hundreds of thousands of dollars and you nothing" just comes off like "I love your sister more than I love you". That's got to be pretty tough and I feel so bad for that kid.

Yeah I know, the son's going to get pretty resentful in his late teens especially. It never said it was a good idea. You said he's doing this "Because you love her more. Stop lying to yourself."

I'm just saying he probably doesn't love the daughter more but honestly believe that he needs to fill the wage gap by just throwing money at her (which is a dumb way to go about it anyways).

He's more concerned about faux wage gap rather than showing love equally to his son. Add to that the fact that he could just disperse wealth to them equally as needed and you have a pretty clear idea of that fact that he has some biases towards his daughter.

At the end of the day it's going to look like he loves her more, it's going to have the same effect as loving her more, and it's going to make his son just as miserable as if he loved her more.

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck it's probably a duck.

It's an accurate guess to place, even if he's basing it on something he's heard he's still being biased towards his daughter.

You're possibly right. I got angry after reading the article and kind of just spit that out.

Either way, chances are that's how this kid is going to feel about this as he's growing up. And if the parents truly loved their son they would have realized this. As it is they treat him like he's collateral damage. This is the sort of thing that leads to a kid running away just so he can see his parents scared about him and know that they love him.

Yeah, these parents seem really weird, this is like how tumblr would parent.. too focused on trying to be "progressive" and not dealing with reality at all. They're in their 40's too which is weird. Hopefully they realize this makes no sense early on and scrap the idea. And also if their daughter has enough self respect this would be insulting to her as well since it's saying she needs a handicap in life. It's gonna be so awkward all around.

Things like this just make me sad.

Should he kill his daughter to recognise that far more men than women are killed while they are performing their work.

He should be saving for his son's eventual divorce/custody/alimony lifetime ring of Hell.

And how funny it will be when your daughter comes home with a masters degree of gender studies.

For fucks sake, two wrongs don't make a right.

Would not jump to the conclusion that he is a horrid father. He is the victim of a ever increasing feminist movemnt that has basis in nothing. All this pretty much shows is that this wage gap idea is dangerous in that people will look at it believe it and do this. This a problem with the matriarchy :).

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

We need to start holding people accountable for believing baseless information. People shouldn't hear something and just accept it as fact, if someone acts on baseless information and creates negative consequences they need to be held responsible.

[–]asdg 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

People have the choice to believe whatever they want, and i do not think that right should ever be taken away. Getting rid of misinfromation allows people to make reasonable choices that are supported by fact, not myth.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

People's choices have consequences, saying "Oh I just believed it because a lot of people were saying it" isn't a valid excuse. They have the right to believe whatever they want, but they have to face the consequences for any actions they take.

Ignorance =/= Innocence, a lack of being informed doesn't make what you do acceptable. At the end of the day it is their responsibility to make informed decisions. When people believe notably false information we have the responsibility to hold them accountable for it. There should be some degree of shame in believing something as fact without looking into it. If people behaved in such a way there would be far less vigilante beatings/killings.

[–]asdg 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Fully agree. Peole have the freedom to make choices and have to deal with the subsequent consequences. Don't know how someone can argue agaisnt that.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's all I was advocating for, I wasn't suggesting some kind of Ministry of Truth scenario. Just that "Not knowing" isn't an excuse, we live in the Information Era, people can know better.
