I made this picture to demonstrate this.

I love how these articles always completely ignore non-college-educated men. As if it's a motherfucking axiom that a man has to be college-educated to be worth a woman's time.

I mean, women can have whatever standards they want, but I'm sick of them pretending they're doomed to be forever alone when they exclude the majority of the male population from the start.

It'd be like if an article for men asked what the hell happened to all the good women and started by pretending any woman with a BMI over 20 didn't exist or was simply not an option. Then they blamed the ratio, not men for being unwilling to budge on that.

well clearly a military fighter pilot wont be on the same level as someone with a "gender studies degree" from a university that used to be a swimming pool.

that woman has to clearly "lower her standards" and accept defeat and embrace the fighter pilot who is clearly beneath her great intelligence.

she has a certificate and everything

[–]Ultramegasaurus 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, that's another funny one. Do some women really think a Bachelor in Gender Studies or similar makes them smarter than an Electrician or so?

[–]Wargame4life 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

they do, and the beauty is that it makes them really angry and bitter because in their mind they are effectively stephen hawking unfortunately in reality they are merely jumping through arbitrary hoops that make no difference at all.

its like claiming a videogame score gives you merit and worth as an individual.

I find it a bizarre irony how women look down on tradesmen as inferior retards and yet these women with their diplomas and degrees can't fix things.

It's more important to be able to fix things IMO that to pontificate against the patriarchy.

[–]mjociv 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You need at least a bachelor's degree to be a fighter pilot in the US military. I know the Army has some pilot positions that you can do right out of high school but before the Air Force or Navy lets you fly a multi-million dollar jet faster than the speed of sound you need a degree in physics.

[–]Wargame4life 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

in the uk that isnt the case, although obviously it helps your case considerably technically it wasn't a requirement.

i actually have a degree in physics and there is no way that it a requirement since the almost none of the syllabus has anything at all to do with things that will help you as a fighter pilot.

engineering aeronautical or mechanical will, but physics is too much stuff that is totally unrelated and useless in that field.

Man shortage Rich man shortage.

The lack of self-awareness and self-reflection in these articles is astounding.

It’s not your fault. It’s the ratio.

No, no, god forbid women take responsibility for anything. Blame? Unthinkable!

I give this piece credit however for including the following:

“None of this would matter if we were open-minded about who we dated,” Birger says. “The problem is, Americans — both men and women — have become more rigid about dating across socioeconomic boundaries.”

To find a mate, college-educated women should consider dating working-class men.

So, so close...but Birger couldn't help but say "both men and women." No. Men are shallow when it comes to looks. Women are shallow when it comes to looks, social status and earnings. Why wouldn't they be? They are the "gatekeepers to sex," after all.

The hilarious thing about the supposed "man shortage" is that feminists are making the problem progressively worse. The more they artificially inflate women's earnings and status, the more that successful women find themselves unable [unwilling, rather] to find a suitable partner.

The logical thing to do would be to create a whole slew of educational programs and employment programs for men, or at least to eliminate preferential treatment for women. That would allow women to find their perceived "equals"/superiors to date/marry. But then no one ever accused feminists of being logical.

Feminism has failed miserably. Women are unhappier than ever. Men are being left behind. All in the name of "equality", which is in fact female supremacy.

All of these problems could be solved if feminists were willing to admit error. But like spoiled children, they pout and whine and insist that nothing is ever their fault.

Edit: hilarious that this was downvoted in Men'sRights. Think we have some feminist lurkers? ;)

Well, it used to be that the rich and powerful people kept harems and courtesans. The downside of this is, just as with serfs, that they are responsible for them and have social obligations to them.

Now, they got rid of all such obligations to the people that do the work for them when capitalism swept over the world in the last centuries. All that labor is is a body for a price as low as possible. Have all people in the world walk over each other for a chance to be exploited by them for some morsel.

The genius about feminism is, now they don't have to keep harems anymore either. No responsibilities and obligations for any of their fuck force. They are all walking over each other for a chance to be fucked and exploited by them.

One might almost think that was the whole point of feminism: more cheap consequence free pussy for those who have already the most. Just as the point of wage labor is more cheap consequence free work bodies for those who already have the most.

Where have all the good (tall, college-educated, moderately ambitious, successful, wealthy, fit, handsome, provisioned, single, and available) men gone?

Well, Bonnie, they're around, it's just that there is only one of them for every five of you.

So smart men aren't marrying or getting into relationships...what does that tell you.

[–]SlashSero 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This goes hand in hand with the outcries of 'all men are at the top' and 'patriarchy'. They really do only take the men at the top into consideration, the average man is invisible to the modern woman.

[–]_-_Dan_-_ 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Two things this odds game doesn't seem to address: 1. the different 'quality' in the market at different stages, and 2. the age preferences/range men and women look for.

1) Even if you look only at college educated people, the ones who remain unmarried might not be "marrying material" (BTW, for those saying men aren't objectified, what exactly does a phrase like "marrying material" mean?).

And even with a smaller pool when it comes to men, I think it also applies to women (perhaps even more so).

So, it's not only the odds of college educated men vs women, it's also the question of compatibility. Mutual attraction, shared life goals, etc. Esp. if men keep their status as gatekeepers of long-term relationships (here's hoping for Vasagel to close one 'shortcut' a few women might be willing to take).

2) I have seen many men dating younger women (~10 years), and -- esp. during their twenties -- many women preferring somewhat older men (also ~10 years). If this is an actual global preference, then the situation may be even worse for women. The sexual market value changes differently for men and women and the average woman might be outclassed by her younger competition.

Anyway, in the end, even with an odds game, it's how often you play (you don't lose much more than time on bad dates) and how well. And any woman playing with that looming sword of Damocles in her mind would probably worse off. Desperation is not an attractive quality. Nor the mindset of "I just need a man because I don't want to be single/unmarried anymore."

And sure, it's nice to be pursued, but because of interest in the individual, not "to finally catch something". Not sure how many single women can switch gears here and go for men instead of waiting in vain for them.

[–]Number357 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not sure how many single women can switch gears here and go for men instead of waiting in vain for them.

That's the biggest problem with women complaining about not getting a man. They aren't trying. Most women I know have never even asked a man out on a date. Even "progressive" women are still very conservative in their dating habits. As more and more men get tired of these traditional gender roles you have a conflict between women wanting men to be men while many men are no longer comfortable with rigid gender roles, so they both end up single.

[–]_-_Dan_-_ 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup, made the same experience. Not sure why few women pursue men (beyond fan-girls and the like).

Hmm, perhaps because women are used that men make the first step. Perhaps because they see it as below their dignity to pursue (misplaced idea of a power play in relationships). Perhaps they don't know how. Perhaps they fear rejection.

But I think esp. beyond a certain age they don't have a choice. Never mind the narrative that there's no societal necessity that every man can have sex, yet apparently, there's a societal necessity that every woman must get a relationship if she wants to.

Unless we want to support forced marriages/relationships it's time to see relationships again as something two people create, not as one person's right, no matter whether that person is male or female.

[–]tallwheel 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The Book Referenced in the article looks like pretty legit dating advice for women. It accurately identifies the issues of the female-male imbalance in colleges and educated people in general, and the pitfalls of women putting off marriage till their 30's. If I wanted to give serious dating advice to a woman in this 'market' I'd probably give similar information.

[–]Lucius_Martius 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The question is whether you want the women to secure (as in trap) a "catch", in which case i agree, the advice is sound. Or whether you want them to have healthy long-lasting relationships in which case the presented advice is not nearly enough and even largely counter-productive.

In that latter case you would need to make them stop wanting catches/utilities instead of human beings, which is doubtful to happen in the current social and political climate.

[–]tallwheel 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How is it counter-productive? Having long-lasting relationships and finding a "catch" are not mutually exclusive. There's no need to paint the women in this scenario as predatory, "trapping" a "catch" of a man. I wouldn't blame a woman wanting to find a handsome and wealthy man more than I would blame a man wanting a young and sexy woman. And marrying an attractive partner doesn't necessarily mean you compromise on personality or compatibility. (That's one of those lies they tell men in order to shame them into marrying older women and single moms.)

A woman focusing on her career in a female-dominated space and putting marriage off to her 30's sure decreases the likelihood that her partner will be wealthy and handsome, though. So I still contend that the advice is good for women.

[–]Lucius_Martius 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The desire to make the "best catch" in these superficial conditions will make you blind for the things that count for a healthy and long lasting companionship.

Of course, by chance you can have it all in a partner, if you are very very lucky. But lucky is not where we are, realistically. Where we are is at an all time high of divorce rates and an all time high of unhappiness of couples. Beauty and handsomeness can disappear really quickly and wealth can hit rough patches. And if that's what held you together, that will be what separates you.

So yes, I'd blame them, and I'd blame them both.

For that reason I would suggest women to forgo that catch in favor of someone they are really and truely happy with (not just 'in love'). And I would suggest to men to give up the hope of dating a super model because that women, if he even has a chance at her, will most probably be a spoiled narcissist because she is used to the reverence that gynocentrism pays her.

And lastly I'd suggest them both to never marry and just forget the idea. There are just no reasons for it. Marrying and an ultimatum to do so is always trapping and there will never be anything good that comes out of it.

[–]Wargame4life 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

as a non-married athletic college educated man with a good job i love these articles.

precisely because i know those that sift based on college degree actually send a red flag to those with college degrees that would other wise would have considered them.

its like being 6'4 and ignoring a woman because she stated "must be 6ft+" the simple fact that you think there is a rigid metric that instantly means its discountable shows you as neurotic entitled and selfish, and even though your selection criteria doesn't impact my chances it impacts yours with me.

also the whole concept of this book is complete horseshit.

if men and woman are roughly equal in number and each man "off the market" also corresponds to his partner "off the market" there cannot be loads of "single looking women" and "few eligable men" unless people cheat and have multiple partners or through different age demographics there is different demand etc.

and that is exactly what happens, men and women have identical supply and demand summed overall, but womens demand in their youth, is an inevitable consequence of older decline and lack of demand

i dont date online its always been i have heard people say it usually in the context of how great it is "to be with someone with a university education" when the subject comes up casually etc.

if i dated online it would be an immediate red flag in the profile enough to not bother them

And you are full of shit....lol

You people are going to have to come up with a better taunt because everyone, including more and more of the public, sees through that one. It's lame and useless.

It will be beyond you people to manage this though. Your experience with amount of work and introspection it will take to pry your heads out of your asses is not adequate to the challenge.
