It is strange that in the USA prostitution is illegal but in Germany and other places in Europe we have brothels with 150 women working in them. They charge a flat rate of 50 euros all taxes paid. In the UK it is ignored unless it is visible on the streets and then it is stopped.

How does this have anything to do with Men's Rights? Prostitution is illegal in most states, it's an industry that's predominantly paid for by men, and a large number of the women who work in the industry are human sex slaves and have nightmares for lives. Many of them were brought over from other countries as part of human trafficking. Those are just the simple facts.

Are you trolling?

If you think men's rights = abusing other people, then screw you, man.

In Europe 99.9% of the women work as prostitutes voluntarily.

Is Battle Creek, Michigan in Europe? No. The cultures are very different. People on here are making it sound like in the US prostitution is this viable and fulfilling career choice (like becoming a school teacher or a nurse). It's not. Many of these women are in slavery, many are underage, many of the independent ones are these because they are drug addicts and alcoholics. The women who choose to do it because they enjoy sex and want to make money for it are the exception, not the rule. People need to use some common sense.

I'm pretty passionate about men's issues and men's rights, but if weeping about Johns who get busted soliciting illegal sex on CL becomes a major issue in the MRM, I'll have to become a Christina Hoff Sommers version of the Men's Rights movement...

That's not to say that legalizing prostitution in the US wouldn't change things. It probably would. But the fact is today that's not the reality we live in. These Johns aren't "victims"--they're responsible adults who made a wrong choice and are paying the consequences.

Nuances aside, an illegal sale of goods or services should see both parties penalized. Or, decriminalize and aid both parties.

Best way to prevent such abuses would be to legalize. Lonely men are not going to magically stop using prostitutes.

Let me guess: you think the war on drugs reduces drug use and crime?

In Holland they provide prostitutes paid for by the country for severly disabled men.

... and women.

I have not heard of it for women but I know Holland very well and I guarantee that if a disabled woman wanted sex with a man or woman the state would assist.

I suspect it is rarer for women to ask for the service, but my understanding is that the policy is gender-neutral :-)

I'd be open to a discussion for legalizing prostitution. But I have no sympathy for Johns who get busted looking for sex online.

And no: The war on crime is utter BS. You guessed wrong.

This is so different to Europe. I have not heard of a man arrested for using a prostitute in Europe apart from in Sweden. Sweden hates men.

...according to feminist anti-prostitution activists who have an axe to grind and can't be trusted as far as you can throw them.

Some prostitutes choose their jobs and like them. Those people should be allowed to do business without sex-negative feminists and the moral majority directing police to get up in their shit and harass them or their customers. And if prostitution were decriminalized, anyone who's not a prostitute by choice would have less reason to fear asking for help.

Because typically people care more about catching and incarcerating drug dealers than drug users...unless that drug is sex...because then the dealer is usually a woman.
