That when the media chose to acknowledge the flaws in the case (thank heaven for the Washington Post) they shifted the blame to Rolling Stone shows just how far the rot has spread. The liar/accuser/self-styled martyr/voluntary participant in the article is above criticism because she self-identified as a victim. This makes victimhood the only identity that can be entirely self-applied and yet somehow sacred, and that is extremely dangerous.

The advocates and activists have succeeded in turning victimhood into a rite of passage or a form of social credibility. Regretted sex is rape. Drunk sex is rape. There is no such thing as responsibility and questioning the actions of an accuser is tantamount to misogyny. Personally I think that the whole idea here is to somehow make every woman into a victim. This will give women incredible political power, since who wants to criticize a victim?

Every single detail of Jackie's story that could be checked has been proven false. I don't understand why anyone still supports this women. I'm starting to wonder how much crazy bullshit a woman has to make up in order for the feminists to not believe her.

Loved that quote about ways to reduce the likelihood of a false rape accusations. It was something I've known for years, and actually caused some problems with the wifey when we first started seeing each other (~2010). Whenever she would hiccup after drinking I would put a lot of distance between us, and when I explained that "I don't find drunk women attractive" (better than suggesting she may falsely accuse me), she would bring it up every other time she got the hiccups, until I explained really why, and then I needed a bit of evidence, but after about showing her 50 or so cases, she got the point.

Thanks for doing everything, and providing a good resource for folks like us.

I had a very close call in college. Girl from next dorm over (one minute walk) decided to stay the night, and removed her pants. Sweet romance ensued. In the morning, she tried telling me she only took them off to be more comfortable to sleep, implying she had not meant to consummate. Not just implying, there was a while conversation about it. At least she didn't spew that bullshit all the subsequent times she came over.

Whenever it's learned that an accusation was false, we're always told that we can't bring charges against the false accuser because it will deter actual victims of sexual assault from coming forward since they'll fear they could get in trouble if they can't muster enough proof. I wonder, though: are there any civil remedies possible in cases like this? Can the falsely-accused sue their accuser, or would it be a complete non-starter? (Of course, a suit probably couldn't amount to much anyway, since this usually seems to happen in college, perpetrated by young people likely with very little money, but I wonder if it's a viable option even in theory.)

"Rape Culture" is an amazing example of a Social Media Meme Run Riot.

"Rape Culture" is a compound uncountable noun craftily created so that people assume they know what it means. It is idiomatic and is used imprecisely. So many have constructed mythology around the two words that have even demanded that the term was created by Susan Brownmiller without verifying any source or origin.

Feminists who throw the term about have been so lazy they have never even properly defined it since it was created in 1974.

Rape culture is a concept of unknown origin and of uncertain definition; yet it has made its way into everyday vocabulary and is assumed to be commonly understood. The award-winning documentary film Rape Culture made by Margaret Lazarus in 1975 takes credit for first defining the concept.
