That when the media chose to acknowledge the flaws in the case (thank heaven for the Washington Post) they shifted the blame to Rolling Stone shows just how far the rot has spread. The liar/accuser/self-styled martyr/voluntary participant in the article is above criticism because she self-identified as a victim. This makes victimhood the only identity that can be entirely self-applied and yet somehow sacred, and that is extremely dangerous.
The advocates and activists have succeeded in turning victimhood into a rite of passage or a form of social credibility. Regretted sex is rape. Drunk sex is rape. There is no such thing as responsibility and questioning the actions of an accuser is tantamount to misogyny. Personally I think that the whole idea here is to somehow make every woman into a victim. This will give women incredible political power, since who wants to criticize a victim?
