Here is some typical physical standards for occupations such as Firefighters, Combat Arms, and Law Enforcement

The simple fact is a weak woman or weak man cannot physically rescue people from buildings because they are too heavy and difficult to move when incapacitated.

If someone needs rescuing, you NEED someone strong capable of handling all their protective gear (can be over 100 lbs) and then an additional limp body as well.

This is freakishly strenuous work even for those of us that are strong.

Saving lives is not a time for the PC/SJW fascists to put an incapable person in the job.

Your life may depend on it!

Caveat: I am 100% for equality based on meritocracy, irrespective of ethnicity, color, gender, sexual preference, religion, or any one of a thousand other things that distinguish us, but have no basis on performance and ability.

At a Council hearing, FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro revealed he’s overhauled the rules at the fire academy to give less weight to physical tests known as Functional Skills Training. FST will count as part of a probationary firefighter’s overall grade, but they will no longer be barred from graduating solely because they don’t pass.

Functional Skills Training (FST) involves performing a series of fire related tasks in full firefighter gear. FST will measure a recruit's ability to safely and effectively perform the duties of a firefighter while wearing full personal protective equipment including a self-contained breathing apparatus. FST includes, but is not limited to, skills such as climbing stairs with tools and equipment weighing in excess of 100 lbs, advancing hose lines, forcible entry, victim rescue, and raising ladders. FST requires an extremely high level of physical conditioning, well beyond what is necessary to pass CPAT. Recruits will be evaluated in FST and must pass FST, in order to graduate. In addition to physical training and FST, recruits are also required to perform such skills as climbing an aerial ladder with tools and equipment, bring a victim down an aerial ladder, perform confined space search, operate and advance a charged hose line etc.

If a person is incapable of completing these tasks they should not be a firefighter.

If a firefighter has to worry because the person beside them cannot even carry the gear into a rescue situation how are they going to help them if they get in trouble. It will reduce the effectiveness of the firefighters if they have to worry about the people behind them. They will need more male firefighters to escort the female firefighters in.

The FDNY already faces court orders to increase its racial diversity, and Public Advocate Letitia James said the same thing could happen on gender, though she hoped it would not come to that.

“I am ready, willing, and able to file an additional lawsuit,” she said.

Public Advocate Letita James is willing to gamble with your life. Hiring unqualified people because of quotas does not mean that you will have an effective and safe team.

Nice find. I really question these physical tests being too harsh, and I'm worried lowering the standards could lead to deaths of firefighters (both male and female) and victims. Imagine if you had firefighters that couldn't pass the physical tests during 9/11.

Some of the other things I found legitimate. Women's bathrooms should be installed where they are not, although 50 firehouses sounds like a relatively low number, and I highly doubt that's the reason women aren't becoming firefighters.

Any politician that votes for this should agree to only have women allowed in under these lower standards respond when they or their loved ones are in trouble.

I don't think men and women should have separate physical standards, but I also don't mind if the standards are lowered slightly to allow more women to join - as long as it's within reason.
